I live in the building.
Apparently the kitchen of 131 main caught fire and then it spread into parts of the emergency vent system.
Had ton evacuate my apartment for about 5 hours last night, didn't get back in til around 9 last night...place reaks of smoke and peoples CO alarms were going off.
They had to pour water onto the vent stack on top of the building, which, as you can imagine, put a lot of water into lots of unintended places. All the hallways near that vent are soaked, sooty, etc. It's kinda a mess.
But everyone is ok and in the end it was a giant inconvenience and that's all. 4/2/2012 11:33:00 AM |

World of Beer is great. Went in last night and plopped down at the bar for a few hours. Ordered a pizza from Fuel for dinner and it was brought right to my seat. 4/2/2012 12:04:24 PM |

Okay so Ayresly... Got a job right near there. Buy a condo in there, or just rent at Gramercy Square? I have a 55 pound boxer, website says only ground floor for dogs over 30 pounds.
Anyone know of any nice area nearby to look at houses?
Oh and I gotta dump the house I have now... Ugh.

anyone know what the best ABC store location is for top-tier brands? mainly bourbons? 4/24/2012 10:59:18 AM |

Probably the one by the Morrison Harris Teeter, but really no idea if they stock different brands at different locations. 4/24/2012 11:02:54 AM |

i know all carry relatively the same base-line brands, but for instance the ABC in Cary always carried a lot of harder to find things that stores in Raleigh, near campus, never did. I'm guessing the same thing happens here. I'll check that one out. 4/24/2012 11:21:01 AM |

They just unveiled a new bikeshare program uptown.
Cool! 7/12/2012 12:40:54 PM |
Phelps All American 612 Posts user info edit post |
I was really excited about the program until i realized my wife and i could take a cab for cheaper than what it would cost to use the bikes. $8/per person for 24 hours. And if you don't check it back in (you can check it back out right away) within 30 min it's another $4. $24 for a 45 minute ride for both of us.
I could get the annual pass for $65 but I doubt I'd use it that much.
I sound like a cheap ass and that wouldn't be a lot if you were touring a major city or something but if I just want to shoot up the greenway to grab a beer i'll probably just say screw it and drive. 7/12/2012 5:21:43 PM |

I'm a bit annoyed, as I was planning on a much needed shopping trip tomorrow.
And, I currently can't just order online, as my sizing has changed a bit.

24 Hours of Booty from 7pm tonight to 7pm tomorrow night
I live nearby and while its always a good cause to raise money for cancer, the traffic patterns suck...I take the back streets, but they are usually packed on both sides with parked cars...pain in the ass...time to bunker down 7/27/2012 12:02:55 PM |

Bill Spoon's is pretty baller for Eastern style
i dunno what style you'd call it, but Old Hickory House is good...best Brunswick Stew i've ever had 8/23/2012 11:53:20 AM |

Bill Spoon's is a good choice. Just make sure they have cash.
If they are on the north end of town send them up to Concord, to R&R BBQ. It's right off 85 at Poplar Tent. One of the better representations of Eastern style around. 8/23/2012 3:57:34 PM |

I really haven't been affected hardly, and I live less than a mile from uptown.
I had a group meeting at La Paz at the Metropolitan last night and half the people didn't show because they were afraid of traffic. The parking garage there (which is usually outrageously crowded) was not bad at all and La Paz was quite empty.
I think if you need to go to uptown you are fucked, but otherwise it is not impacting things really. It's mostly ignorant hyped up anxiety that I'm hearing. 9/5/2012 2:32:00 PM |

i went to the post office on McDowell earlier...took 11th street down from Tryon (well from Church since they blocked off Tryon at the Church split), but could I drive down McDowell 5 blocks to the post office from where 11th turns into McDowell? of course not...had to go up 10th to Central to 7th, buncha horseshit 9/5/2012 3:29:54 PM |

it hasn't really had an effect on me. we went into the city Tuesday. We decided to park at the Scaleybark P&R and take the Light Rail in. on a normal day we'd have just come right down 4th street.
i got a little scared last night leaving the Foo Fighters show. I missed my turn to get back on 277 to get back to the east side of town and ended up having to drive through the city. basically took 10th and weaved down that way until i hit mcdowell and then 7th. i got close to the blockade zone a couple times 9/6/2012 10:36:39 AM |
