I'm going to take a wild guess and say it won't be worth whatever they charge for it. Unless it's only about $6, which is unlikely.

I think I spent $180 over Christmas on my stash (page 40)
http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=572440&page=40#15159017

24-30 bottles? Some aren't shown since they came in 4-packs. That doesn't even count the baggage fees I paid getting it home to Denver, lol.

Still $300, that's like what I am normally budgeted for 6-months... that is quite a bit!

though I choose dark beer first I picked up a couple sixers of Founders All Day IPA as was previously posted on the last page.

wow, so good. Yes, it's a session ale 4.7% but it's damn good for those lazy afternoons when you just want to enjoy a handful of beers while messing around the house or hanging out. I polished off 4-5 while playing call of duty. very easy to drink. will definitely be a mainstay in my fridge this summer for sure.

^how does it compare to DFH 60-minute IPA or Odell IPA? Those have been my IPA standbys in the past.

I also went to Avery on Saturday.

They were releasing two new beers, both of which are part of their barrel-aged series. Each release is unique and are typically released every 3-6 months. This was #10 & #11 out of the series thus far. It's an extremely limited release, I believe they are typically between 80-180 cases and limit purchase to 6-bottles (12oz.) of each beer per person at $8 a piece, it's only sold in the state of Colorado, with a majority of it sold in tap room on release day. There were probably 300-400 people at the release, I've added a picture below, but this is such a small piece of the line, the line went through the door in the back down a corridor about 200feet long. Took about 45-minutes to get through the line.

http://www.averybrewing.com/our-ales/82

Muscat d'Amour #10
150 gallons of Muscat Blanc grape must provided 25% of the beer’s fermentables, and malted barley provided the rest. After Avery’s house Belgian and Brettanomyces yeast strains did their job, and 14 months in fresh Chardonnay barrels, brewers were left with a 10.78% ABV light golden ale imparting suggestions of dry white wine, soft malt, and savory earthiness.

Récolte Sauvage #11
150 gallons of Cabernet Sauvignon grape must for a quarter of the fermentables. After naturally occurring wild yeasts from the harvested grape skins took care of fermentation, the beer spent 14 months aging in fresh Cabernet Sauvignon barrels. With a quick nod to red wine, this 11.03% ABV red ale presents tastes of cherries, rich grapes and oak tannins. Parker looked to Bookcliff Vineyards on Colorado’s western slope for the grapes in both beers. “No sulfites were used on the grapes,” he said, “which means that wild yeasts living on the grapes were allowed to help on the primary fermentations.”

^^it's a lighter IPA than those two. I would compare it more to a Ranger IPA than to 60 Minute. (have not had Odell).

I had it on draft and in bottle. The bottles were stamped December and after having the draft I did notice there was some flavor fade. The fresh draft was a lot hoppier with more "mouth punch". I expect the bottles to be that way when they are fresh and not held back a month for national release.

do you ever have tasting parties or what? what do you do with all the excess beer you don't drink? I'm not even sure I could drink $300 worth of beer in a month.

that's like 5 beers a day, or $33 worth of beer every day.

($6+$1 tip per drink, assuming you're drinking the expensive stuff)

lol.

had this with dinner last night. can't say it wowed me, but by the end i really enjoyed it. I was hoping the chardonnay aging may have shown a little more, and it felt like it did when the beer was first poured but it faded quick. It was a slow drink and had a nice balance. Not overly carbonated but almost little to no head retention. 7/10

It was a good pairing to the good old fashioned homemade burgers we had last night. I have one more bottle I'll keep around for a few more months and try again.

The manager at total wine in Cary nearly had an aneurysm when I mentioned Hopslam. He truly hates it and the people who call every hour to see if it has arrived. They need a real fucking website.

Founders Better Half will probably be harder to find than CBS after the shit that happened there. I'm going to try tonight and see if my store got any but i'm not holding my breath.

thankfully Founders is expanding and gaining a lot more brewing capacity so some of these limited releases may actually be available for a wider audience in the future.

add: Sam's Quik Shop already sold out of Better Half

i picked up 3 6 packs of hopslam but had to go to three different total wines to get them as they had a 6 pack per person limit... the one in north hills might still have a few. Raleigh times has the bottles tomorrow. Also the better half is supposed to be at total wine in cary tomorrow

^^I would try it first. I've had it the last two years at GABF and it's not worth the money. Instead spend $30 and get a barrel-aged fifty fifty eclipse.

http://www.fiftyfiftybrewing.com/?pg=eclipse

Or buy a port wine. I know the fifty fifty isn't 27%, but the Utopias is basically the port equivalent for beer.

For the record, I didn't drop any cash on the Utopias, I got it as a gift. As much as I love beer, I couldn't see myself dropping that much on it either.

I, too got Utopias as a present and still refuse to pay $8 s&h for the glass. In other news, OHB Seven Devils is really really good. Almost a Backwoods Bastard clone but as usually for OHB its thin.

also making a trip out to Fullsteam Sunday, think there's a bbq truck that night...big fan of that place

Well I tried to down 3 different dogfish beers last night. Started with the Faithfull Ale at 7% and was doing fine. Moved on to the Immort Ale at 11% and was done. Should have just ordered the flight.
