Broken Social Scene is playing at the Orange Peel the night before Hopscotch

seeing as how the last time I saw them play there it was one of the greatest show's I've ever seen, I am more than likely going to make the trip up to see them that night

^What do you think of the Orange Peel? I've been to a few shows here. The sound was good, but the crowds have been awful (talky, not really into the band, on their phones, saying some dumb shit) every time I go there. For instance, when I saw Blitzen Trapper, one girl complained that he was trying too hard to be Bob Dylan. It's not really a legit complaint of the venue itself, but it's given me a bad impression of it both times. Probably just a coincidence, as everyone I've met in and from Asheville is really awesome and it seems like a really cool place.

Plus, I don't like that it has AC. Again, it's petty, but I like shows at clubs like that to be hot and sweaty, like at Cat's Cradle. It's just a personal preference, but I like the vibe of those shows. I like CC way more than the Orange Peel, but I'm probably not giving the Orange Peel a fair shake.

Can't wait to see BSS at Hopscotch, though, and I still may go to that show at the Orange Peel.

I love both of them for different reasons, but I think the Orange Peel is one of the nicest (and prettiest) venues I've ever been to, and I'm not going to hate on them for that

I hear you. I will definitely admit that it is a very nice place. Like I said, my main complaint was that the crowd was so reluctant to get into it the times that I've been there. That's not a reflection on the venue, though, I realize.

I've only been to the Orange Peel once (for The New Deal) and I really liked it. I've heard less than good things about the crowd there sometimes, but for The New Deal, there were plenty of people (but not too much; still enough room for everyone to have a little dancing space), and everyone was having a killer time.

i was at this show as well and agree. do make say think opened and combined they probably played for 2-2.5 hours.

other shows i've seen there may have not be as great, but i've had a good time at all of them. they have coat check which is nice for a winter show, a superb selection of draft beer, and great sound quality. i could really care less about comments the crowd is making - as long as i'm having a good time, that's all that matters.

Orange Peel >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> than Cat's Cradle

of course, I have a love/hate relationship with the CC because their douchebag owner blocks the chances of good venues of similar size ever opening in Raleigh

Checked out the music fest at mosaic last night. got there at about 10:45 and they were playing some pretty good house the entire night. The place was pretty crowded as soon as we got there. Most of the best sounds were inside, and a lot of people were dancing and enjoying the music.

Doubt it'll be Hopscotch as there's nowhere for them to play unless they were to do a City Plaza set in the middle of the day.

Final Hopscotch additions were made today:

The Away Team
Bellafea
Big Remo
Bowerbirds
Bright Young Things
Dungen
Floating Action
In the Year of the Pig
Kaze
K-Hill
Locrian
Raekwon

im a little late on the orange peel vs cats cradle discussion but its not even a comparison

OP >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> CC

the sound at the OP is amazing. and i love their Big Ass Fan. and their bar. and it's town. and its food. and its loose hippie women.

everything about the peel is superior.

I like the sound better at the OP as well, but I'm not a big fan of the staff.

Meathead bouncers taking there job way too seriously. It's a fucking music venue, not a club in Atlanta

ok, so I heard the Avetts will be announcing a headlining show at Walnut Creek today....

screw major labels overextending. That would've been perfect for the new downtown amphitheater and now it'll be half full(or it'll be full and only the people in front half of the pavillion will enjoy the actual music)

that Here We Go Magic album is really fucking good too, that will be a good show

saw Sleigh Bells open for Major Lazer, it was a fun show, but I can't imagine them as a headlining act. the show will be like 30 minutes long. hopefully they add a live drummer
