I, too, hope we get Wall.

Out of the "big three" that we're in the mix for, he's the one I want the most.

I've heard CJ can play defense, but does he have a similar offensive game to KG (good shot with range, passing skills, etc)

DCousins' team was playing in the 'Iolini Classic in Hawaii over the weekend

(DC scored 39 in their loss to Tiny Gallon's team (<-part of the sooner's very impressive '09 class))

This write-up puts DC @ 6'11"/260 (rivals and scout have him at ~6'9"/250)

Wow looks like NC State fans got a link to this article and hit it hard.... look the Wolfpack are a nice team & all but I'm not sure how you can say Sidney Lowe has had much of a hand in developing talent in Raliegh. JJ Hickson was drafted based on the physical tools that he brought with him to college, and I think most NC State fans who know him would likely rather see him in the NBA than Raliegh anyways.

Lowe has done a good job recruiting, especially in the Peach State picking up guys we didn't have space for like Brown & Howell (TBH I wish we had a schollie for Brown, he's a project but will be very good in a couple of years), but you can't compare his level of success in just 2 years to what Paul Hewitt has done in ATL.

CPH has developed a number of current Pros like Chris Bosh, Jarrett Jack, Javaris Crittenton, Mario West, Thaddeus Young... the job he did with West (a walk on) and Luke Schenscher (Aussie with no post skills who turned into a legit big man) is remarkable. He's done the same with Gani Lawal and Alade Aminu, both of whom were very raw when they arrived... Lawal's improvement has been amazing in just one year, and now looks like a lock for the first round/lottery -- this is something Favors will look at when choosing GT, not to mention the fact that he's from ATL and CPH has taken Tech to the Big Dance several times, including the title game 4 years ago with a team that had no big time recruits. Derrick will lead our next Final Four run in 2009..."

let's take this motherfucker down!

Oh I see, Hickson got drafted on his physical tools, but "CPH" masterfully developed one and done's Crittenton and Thad Young, ok, I totally see the difference . I don't blame Favors for wanting to stay home, but going to Georgia Tech for Paul Hewitt is absurd, Sendek owned this guy. Hewitt is in year 9, made the NCAA, but has he finished the regular season in the top 3 ever, I know he has one ACCT championship loss and of course the final four where UCONN handed it to them. And if any of you saw Jarrett Jack play at GT, you'd know his pro career is going 10X better than anything he did in college which makes the coach look worse IMO. I mean, John Bunting doesn't look to stellar for sending Willie Parker to the NFL.

This is pretty far from the truth. Jack was badass in college. I think he was the biggest reason they got to the Final Four. Nobody could keep up with him in the tournament. He's been pretty disappointing in the NBA. He started for Portland last year, but basically split minutes with Steve Blake. He's only recently been starting for the Pacers (mainly because of an injury to TJ Ford) and is averaging around 10 and 4 a game. Not exactly 10X better than college.

Yeah but I still wouldn't give Jack's success to Hewitt. The fact that Hewitt has had a lot of talent in the past few years and has produced little to nothing should speak volumes.

Do you give Stephon Curry's success to Bob McKillop because he wasn't highly regarded going into college and has become a superstar? I personally don't. It's the same as us finding P-Riv in football, and I accredit none of P-Riv's success or abilities to CTC, haha.

^I agree. But at the same time, Jack isn't "succeeding" in the NBA...so it definitely doesn't show that Hewitt is a bad coach. I was just arguing against that particular point.

But I've never been a fan of Paul Hewitt. What I posted in another thread:

Quote :
"Never been impressed with Hewitt. It wasn't the fact that Herb owned him...it was the fact that we played the same type of game (offense and defense) against them every time...and it was the same result every game. He never adjusted. It baffled me. You could almost always go to a GT/State game and be guaranteed a 10-point win by the Pack.

The Final Four run was made off of pure talent...and he's recruited well enough to remain somewhat competitive in the ACC over the years. But as a coach...he pretty much blows."

So Chris Collins "accidentally" shows up at the GSK Tourney during a recruiting dead period, like he didn't know. I guess Duke must be desperate for Wall if they are willing to break the rules so blatantly.

LaQuinton Ross, 6-8 SF
Sophomore, Jackson, Miss./Murrah
In the scouting business, evaluators ask this question to each other very often when observing players: "Is he a pro?" When asking this question about a player, "pro" refers to playing in the NBA, not simply drawing a check playing basketball from any league. After getting a glimpse of Ross, it seems he will become a pro as long as he remains grounded and continues to work -- a major question mark for many young players who achieve elite status early on. These players do not have another player to look up to, given they already rank as the top player. Instead, the challenge and motivation to become the best has to come from within, the mark of a truly great player, which Ross can become if he remains focused and hungry.

Ross has an effortless, smooth offensive game and rarely changes expression, which may erroneously give off the impression that he does not play hard. He possesses an array of skills that make the game come very easy to him. Ross has range well beyond the 3-point line and he will shoot the pull-up from beyond the land of 3. He has textbook form, with a great follow-through and a nice, high release point on his jumper. He only misses when he does not finish his shot, drops his hands as opposed to holding his follow-through and he fades away. Ross also handles the ball very well and can easily get to the rim with his quick first step. His ball-handling skills allow him to get into the paint with ease, even when defenders try to get up in him and apply ball pressure. Ross has the lift, length, and shooting ability to get off a midrange pull-up jumper almost at will, but he does not utilize this portion of his game as much as he should. When he gets in the paint and not all the way to the rim, Ross has a tendency to negate his length and make himself smaller and easier to defend by adjusting in the air multiple times as opposed to going right up over defenders. He will become an even better finisher as he matures and adds strength to his rather thin frame. Ross also does a good job of not forcing the issue, despite his immense offensive gifts. He drives the ball and dishes out to open teammates for easy shots."

Here's LaQuinton Ross' myspace page. Coach Drew of Baylor is one of his friends, haha. Maybe that's how he's been recruiting so well lately. He gets into their top friends list and drops messages to them every now and then telling them how great they are. There's a picture of him and Stuart Scott. I wouldn't be surprised if Scott didn't try to play up UNC to him when they met.

I am an NC State graduate and me and a buddy started this blog a while ago that you all might want to check out. We are about to move it to an actual website (the site is under construction)It covers everyone State recruiting...videos...interviews...game by game updates of their stats and their highschool teams record. It also covers the current wolfpack team. The site is updated everyday with new articles and video.
Its basically everything that those premium sites offer.... for free. We dont take anything off of any of those sites ...if we do find an article online we quote our sources (newspapers, magazines) and we are already in contact with most of the commits and a few people inside the NC State basketball program.

Normally I would say buy an ad, but if this blog can become a reputable source of information for Wolfpack hoops and recruiting then I'm all for him promoting it. Especially if they are in contact with commits, players, and people inside the program. Good luck in making it a reputable site.

We put a lot of work into this....just trying to get the word out

"RALEIGH — When Lorenzo Brown checked out of the game Tuesday night, the sellout crowd at the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational gave him a standing ovation. If he does what he did at Holliday Gym during the last four days next season at the RBC Center, plenty more standing Os are in his future.

Brown, an N.C. State signee, scored 27 points and had six steals to lead his Roswell (Ga.) Centennial Knights to a 72-53 win over Ravenscroft in the Invitational’s Summit Hospitality Group championship game. Brown averaged 21.0 points per game in leading the Knights to the title in their first Invitational appearance and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player for his efforts.

“I never have to worry about Lorenzo,” said Centennial coach Allen Whitehart. “I’ve coached him in numerous big games, and he always brings his ‘A’ game when a big game comes. He’s just a big-game player and a phenomenal, phenomenal teammate.”

Brown had some phenomenal teammates, too. Ryan Fleming scored 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting and forward Adrian Rodgers chipped in 13 points and five rebounds.

Whitehart said he didn’t sleep Monday night after his team lacked focus and struggled to put away Knightdale earlier in the day. He’ll surely sleep well on Tuesday night.

Centennial’s superior athleticism and speed negated the Ravens’ mammoth size advantage inside with the 6-for-11 Matt Wilson and 6-foor-10 Ryan Kelly. Centennial dictated the tempo with its pressure defense, forcing 18 turnovers that led to 24 points.

“My big thing was the athleticism of our team versus theirs,” Whitehart said. “I felt like we were a little more athletic and I figured if we could keep the game spread out and up-tempo, we could probably outdistance them to keep the game in our favor.”

One thing that kept game in Cenntennial’s favor, at least in Ravenscroft coach Kevin Billerman’s eyes, was the way it was officiated.

“I think the game was officiated to their advantage in that there was a lot of hand-checking [and] grabbing; officiated more like a college game I thought,” Billerman said. “And when that happens, our lack of quickness and physical presence hurts us. … They played extremely well. They played a game suited to their taste.”

Kelly scored 26 points to go with nine rebounds, and he was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Wilson finished with 12 points and eight boards, but the Ravens got only 13 points out of the rest of the team.

“We struggled to get into our sets, which I think would have worked well. We just struggled to get there,” Kelly said. “But the bottom line is we didn’t come out to play tonight. We weren’t ready to play, and that’s on everybody’s shoulders. We’re a much better team than we showed today.

The game was close throughout the first half. Ravenscroft started hot in the first quarter, shooting 8-of-17 from the floor to take a 17-12 lead. Kelly and Wilson had their way on the inside, accounting for 12 of their team’s points in the opening eight minutes.

It remained a two-point game into the third, but then fell apart quickly for the Ravens. After a Luke Davis free throw cut Centennial’s lead to 40-38 with 3:24 on the clock, the Ravens turned the ball over on their next six possessions, while Centennial went on a 13-0 run to effectively end the game.

Ravenscroft never made a run in the fourth. After two free throws with 1:00 to play, Whitehart subbed out Brown, bringing the crowd to its feet.

“It meant a lot,” Brown said of the recognition. “I’m going to be here next year and they’re looking forward to seeing me do what I did tonight. I’ve got to bring it.”"

"RALEIGH — Word of God came out of the gate firing on all cylinders Tuesday, but by the second half the tables had turned as Christ School held on to secure a 76-73 victory.

"Basketball is a game of runs," Word of God head coach Levi Beckwith said after the game. "Anybody who watches basketball knows that."

In the first quarter, Christ School only hit three jump shots, totaling six-points. Mason Plumlee and Lakeem Jackson hit a pair of free throws in the opening quarter, and Lucas Troutman added another to bring the Greenies to 11-points after the first eight minutes.

Behind six-points from John Wall and five-points from Bishop Daniels, the Holy Rams surged to a 22-11 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Word of God's lead stayed near ten-points throughout much of the second quarter, but after Troutman threw down a dunk with 2:37 left in the first half, Christ School began to make a run.

"From what I saw of [Word of God] in the tournament, they're going to give you a chance to get back in [the game]," Christ School head coach David Gaines said after his team received the large, silver championship trophy.

Christ School did have an opportunity to get back into the game just before halftime.

Plumlee hit a 3-pointer with two minutes left in the half to cut the Word of God lead to six-points, 39-33, but Word of God went into the locker room with the 42-35 advantage.

The Greenies made a statement early in the third quarter.

Christ School scored the first six-points of the second half, capped off with a two-point bucket by Tony Kimbro which cut the Holy Rams' lead to 45-43.

Word of God held onto their lead for several possessions off of baskets from Wall, but the Greenies tied the Holy Rams at 48-points with 3:27 left in the third quarter.

After trailing the Holy Rams 48-45, Christ School's Reggie King hit a two-point bucket, and the official called a foul on Dominique McDonald. King converted the and-one free throw to tie the ball game at 48.

Montel Baines tried to push the Word of God lead to two-points on the Holy Rams' ensuing possession, but Baines split a pair of free throws, leaving the door open for Christ School to take their first lead of the contest.

Behind a pair of free throws from sophomore Marshall Plumlee, Christ School did just that with 2:47 left in the third quarter. The 50-49 lead shifted momentum back to Christ School.

About 30 seconds later, Wall was called for his first foul of the game, sending Baines to the free throw line. Baines hit both free throws, extending Christ School's lead to 52-49. Mason Plumlee scored a two-point basket after a defensive stop at the other end of the court, putting Christ School in front by five-points.

It appeared the G5Greenies were in control, as they led for 1:43, but with 1:04 left in the game, Wall hit a two-point bucket to tie the game at 71-points.

The Holy Rams fouled Marshall Plumlee with 56.8 seconds left in the game, sending him to the free throw line with a chance to give Christ School a late two-point lead. However, the sophomore split the pair of free throws and Leslie pulled down the rebound, giving the Holy Rams a chance to take the lead.

After working the ball around, Wall drove into the lane and dished to the right where Daniels was standing, waiting for the pass. Daniels caught the ball and put up a jump shot that bounced off the rim and into the hands of Christ School's Elijah Johnson. The rebound was the only one of the night for Johnson.

Gaines signaled from the sideline for a timeout with 39.4 seconds left, knowing Word of God would probably foul.

The Rams waited seven seconds after Christ School inbounded the ball for Wall to foul Jackson. However, the future South Carolina player missed both free throw attempts, leaving the door open for Word of God to take the lead after Leslie pulled down another rebound. The N.C. State commit had nine rebounds on the night.

With 21 seconds left on the clock, Wall drove down the lane and forced up a lay-up that fell through the hoop, giving the Holy Rams their first lead since the 3:06 mark of the third quarter.

The lead didn't last long.

With time running out, Troutman missed a short jump shot with 15 seconds left, but Leslie was whistled for goal tending, giving Christ School a one-point lead.

The Holy Rams quickly moved the ball back down the court, and Daniels took a jump shot with 6.5 seconds left, but missed. The two teams battled for the rebound, but the ball bounced off the leg of Daniels out of bounds.

Christ School inbounded the ball under Word of God's basket, and Wall fouled Troutman immediately. Troutman had only missed on free throw in the game, and he converted both attempts to give Christ School a three-point lead.

Word of God called a timeout after the two free throws.

The Holy Rams had 3.5 seconds to score a 3-pointer and force overtime, but they didn't even take a shot. The Holy Rams threw the inbounds pass out of bounds at the other end of the court, turning the ball over to Christ School which ultimately ended the ball game.

The Glaxo championship is the first in Christ School's history, as the Greenies remain undefeated on the season.

Wall led all scorers with 28-points on Tuesday, but Leslie added 18-points and Dezmine Wells scored ten-points. The Holy Rams only got nine-points off the bench, and all of the points came from Stephon Drane.

Christ School had four players score in double-figures. Mason Plumlee led the team with 20-points, King posted 13-points, Troutman had 11, and Wells recorded ten-points."

That blog has some rose-colored assessment of our play on the court. I mean, we seem to be playing better than last year but my no means are we a solid team.

^ It's a blog, and it's a guys opinion. At this point in the season I think it is too early in the season to really know how good we are.

nah, it's obvious we're better than we were last year.

so instead of going 15-16, we've made enough improvements to go 16-15

I think that's kinda the point. A site that focuses on the positives and looks at the future with optimism. Maybe counter-balance the negativity that often oozes from sites such as tww.

It has some nice video clips of our commitments and recruits (check out Harrow in the Walton clip!) . I think our future is looking good with Harrow, Brown, and Wood in the back court.
