Friendlies don't cap-tie players to a particular country
it has to come in a Gold Cup, WCQ, or WC for US players
I agree that I'm glad we're giving them call-ups now so it won't be harder for them to make a decision

I understand Rogers, Findley, Gaven, etc. in games where none of the European guys are there but there's no way those bitches should be called into any meaningful games for the rest of their lives. we get it already.
Ream/Lichaj should be no-brainer call-ups from now on, in my opinion, considering our depth in defense. I don't think we'll have anybody in the 2014WC that played in 2010. Spector maybe. Same for Bunbury/Agudelo, considering our depth at forward. And it's just too bad for Mix/Bedoya that we're so loaded in midfield... but they sure as fuck deserve call-ups for Beasley/Rogers/random MLS'er 11/17/2010 6:27:20 PM |

I actually kind of like Rogers. And he's not so old that you can definitively say he'll never produce at national level. He'll be 24 in May. Dempsey didn't start getting significant call-ups until he was like 23. If Rogers can put together some excellent MLS seasons, there's no reason to believe he wouldn't be a solid back-up World Cup option at some point. He definitely has a lot of work to do though. I just think he's a little too young to rule out at this point. 11/17/2010 8:26:46 PM |

I don't mind Rogers, I think it's better to give him so experience in these types of games. He's got pretty good offensive skills and a lot of speed, but who knows if he can be consistent at all. I'm happy that we've got some young talent coming up, I just wish more of it was on defense cuz that's where we need it the most. If only we had Nevan Subotic. 11/17/2010 9:23:47 PM |

Yeah, but Agbossoumonde (I know people call him Boss but I won't do it until he accomplishes something), Ream, Lichaj, and Omar Gonzalez are all legit prospects so I think there's definitely a glimmer of hope there

Guess I wasn't thinking. I knew it was a friendly day, but didn't even stop to consider that we had a game.
Good to hear new names. I second the "if I see Findley on the field again, I'm gonna _____" notion.
Never heard of Agudelo, and I was at a Red Bulls game this year, lol.
I've vaguely knew of Ream, but didn't know he was as young, and a prospective talent, as he is. 11/18/2010 9:36:58 PM |

2018 - I think England will get it. I won't be disappointed if Russia gets it either, I think that would be cool.
2022 - I can't see Australia getting it because China will more than likely have a strong bid for 26 and they won't give it to Asia back-to-back. I think we've been the clear favorite all along, all this other shit is just trying to stir up controversy and intrigue. All I know is... if Qatar gets to host a World Cup, I think I will boycott international soccer and write hate letters to FIFA the rest of my life 12/1/2010 7:41:09 AM |

Yeah I am going to be pissed if a nation that isn't good enough to qualify buys their only bid ever. There should be an unwritten rule that you have to qualify at least once within the last 5 World Cups in order to host. I know they gave it to the USA after not qualifying for almost 40 years and then we did qualify on our own for 1990, but I still don't agree with that method.12/1/2010 11:47:59 AM |

yeah i remember qatar being the laughing stock team on my fifa 94 game where i would just bike goals in from half field every game with brazil. i cant imagine qatar is any better since then
i dont see how they couldnt bring it back to the usa. did they not make much money here or something? i couldve sworn fifa killed it and had the highest finals attendance in history, which i imagine still stands 12/2/2010 12:19:00 AM |

holy shit fifa 94. my friends and i would play against qatar so much in that game. Their ratings were so low, and we always tried to see how many goals we could score in a game. Every time I see a horrible team in soccer, it reminds me of Qatar. 12/2/2010 1:06:21 AM |

Apparently the decision is now delayed as they are going through a 3rd round of voting for the 2018 bid. ESPN says at least 30 minutes currently.

Any reason to believe we would get it back so quickly after hosting in 94? Seems pretty unlikely to me. Qatar doesn't make a damn bit of sense though, I do agree with that. We were only going against:
Australia Japan Qatar South Korea
1)Both SK and Japan have had it more recently than us (2002).
2)It was highly thought for awhile that Australia would get snubbed due to China probably getting awarded one in the near future and due to geographical restrictions on hosting (the rotation policy), that was going to be a knock on Australia so FIFA could leave it free for China in the future.
3) Using that logic it came down to US and Qatar and that just seemed obvious to me /shrug

Average high temperature of 115 degrees during the summer in Qatar. Awesome.
FIFA politics is all about getting support (buying off) all of the reps from the underdeveloped countries (most of which don't have an internationally relevant soccer team), which Havelange has mastered as well as anyone. Oil money goes a long way. 12/2/2010 10:30:15 AM |
