I got an iTunes gift card the other day for my birthday and bought some TV shows. When I tried to sync them to my Incredible via DoubleTwist, it yelled at me because they are DRM'd apparently. Does anybody have a good recommendation for how to fix that? I googled but all the software looks so shady so I thought I'd ask TWW. 6/22/2010 11:02:24 AM |

HTC Aria Review http://www.androidcentral.com/review-htc-aria-android-smartphone-att
Quote : | "Conclusion
All in all, the Aria's a solid little phone, and it's probably the best Android device on AT&T, at least until the Samsung Captivate is released. But that's a high-end phone. For the money -- we're seeing the Aria sold for as little as, well, free on contract -- it's a decent beginner Android phone. The issue with only being able to load apps from the Android Market is pretty embarrassing, but it's not a knock against the phone itself. HTC has done its usual stellar job with the hardware, its Sense interface is as fast as we've ever seen it, and there's no reason this phone shouldn't get the Android 2.2 update.
Size may be an issue. If you have large hands, you're likely going to want to look elsewhere. For our money, we'd just buy this feller off-contract, as AT&T has it listed for $380. That way you're not tied into a two-year contract on a phone that's nice, but not exactly high-end. But if you're looking for a pocketable phone with all the bells and whistles Android has to offer, the Aria's a nice, economical bet." |

The Aria is supposed to be a zippy little phone, and if you can get over using ADB for non-market apps until someone ends up rooting the thing it might be a nice buy.
Of course that Samsung Captivate has all the specs you'd want in a phone so I'd wait for that and with the right ROM it'd be a very impressive phone.
For those that care the Backlfip might be close to someone gaining root without special motorola developer tools. One of the best motorola modders is working on it and got close and it's speculated that when moto releases the Blur update sometime in the next week people will be able to find the certificates needed 6/22/2010 5:00:23 PM |

Quote : | "The Swype beta can be installed on the Backflip...
Pre-reqs:
- you are registered for the beta - you know how to use adb with your backflip (see this thread for help: installing apps not in marketplace)
Steps: - download the Swype Installer on your Backflip using the link from the beta e-mail. Ignore any installation error message. - attach the Backflip to your computer via USB - copy the Swype-Installer.apk file from the mounted drive's download directory to your SDK tools directory - install the Swype Installer via adb install command ("adb install Swype-Installer.apk") - keeping the Backflip USB attached, run the Swype Installer on the Backflip - login - click "Start Download" button - When you get the Security Warning message, do NOT click OK, but do these 2 steps from your PC: 1) adb pull /data/data/com.swype.android.installer/files/mypackage.apk 2) adb install mypackage.apk - on the Backflip, click OK on the security warning message and proceed as directed" |

I'm not even talking about notifications...there's no way to view your inbox? And yeah I have to hit refresh for some reason (instead of it just refreshing on its own when you open the news feed and the notifications) 6/22/2010 9:03:39 PM |
pttyndal WINGS!!!!! 35217 Posts user info edit post |
So when you open the facebook app, it doesn't show News Feed, Friends, Photos, INBOX, Profile and Notifications? I just had to manually refresh inside of the Notifications tab also. News Feed refreshes fine on the 4 hr intervals I have set but doesn't seem to refresh when you open it to the latest updates since the last time it refreshed.
Also for anyone who can't download the new google maps 4.3 on Froyo, download Android Terminal Emulator from the market and type the following
Quote : | "su mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 dev/block/mtdblock4 system busybox rm system/app/Maps.apk cd system/bin sh pm uninstall com.google.android.apps.maps cd .. cd .. mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 dev/block/mtdblock4 system sync" |
It's a bit easier if you're using Kangerade or Bugless Beast (substitute sysrw for mountsys and sysro for unmountsys)
Quote : | "su mountsys rm system/app/Maps.apk cd system/bin sh pm uninstall com.google.android.apps.maps unmountsys" |

Told you they all fall eventually. Noted HTC hacker Eugene373 has taken his root method for the MyTouch 3G Slide and got it working on the brand new HTC Aria. It's not the easiest of methods, but it's one we should be used to by now -- it involves timing and monkeying with SD cards. Now there's no reason not to love the Aria, as I'm sure the first thing on the agenda is adding support for applications from unknown sources. Have a look and see what's involved, then get your Aria cracked open and proudly standing alongside it's bigger HTC brethren." |

3 things bother me, doesn't come stock with 2.2, nor Flash, and preloaded with blur.
I hate the trend of skinning Android.
Also iPhone4 is rumored to have up to 36+ hours of battery life of normal usage on a 3.5" screen. this is 4.3" so i understand the increased battery drain, but to have the battery "the same as the Droid" is equivalent to 12-18 hours or so of normal usage, I expected a little more. It's most likely related to the type of screen and processor, but still.
The pros, mentioned above, 1Ghz OMAP, HD video capture, HDMI/DLNA, 8MP camera, 4.3" screen, 3-microphones, high diversity antennas, wifi tethering, preloaded with Swype, expandable to 40GB, all better or equivalent specs than the iPhone 4. Only thing it's missing is front facing camera and little design touches like integrated metal frame for antenna, gorilla glass, etc, that makes the iPhone.
The 1930mAh battery will be a welcome addition if it's true it only adds 1mm and fits in all the standard accessories.
While I'm sure it's an awesome phone, I question the urge to 'push' it before it's ready, which it kind of comes across as...

Don't really think this version of blur will be that bad as it's super fast and barely noticeable. It'll probably get updated later than the stock androids but google is trying to fix that with Android 3.0 (Gingerbread). With froyo, I'm usually on about 60% battery after 10-12 hrs with moderate usage now so the Droid X should easily make it through the day. The quoted battery life isn't really that different: 8hrs of talk time/220hrs of standby (9 days) on the Droid X and 7 hours of 3G talk time/300hrs of Standby (12.5days).

Blur is actually really nice. The version that is on current US phones isn't that impressive, but mostly because: -It's on Android 1.5 instead of 2.1 or 2.2 or even 1.6. Android 1.5 has a lot of issues -The phones with Blur don't have that impressive of technical specs. -It's the initial release of Blur which wasn't a very polished product. The version on the Moto Flipout looks much more polished.
Blur gets you good (optional) social networking (better than using the facebook or twitter apps when you get the latest version). It gives you a way to remotely locate and wipe your phone. It also backs up your contacts onto a remote server so if you need to wipe your phone or change phones they'll be there as soon as you log into blur (same way you log into your google account when you set your phone up) 6/23/2010 3:06:32 PM |

so i'm eligible for an upgrade with verizon on july 30th, and i'll probably be getting my first smart phone. i want an android phone, and i'm trying to decide between the droid incredible, droid x, or waiting for the droid 2. the droid x looks nice, but i don't know how much i'd use the camera, video and hdmi features. that, and it's kinda big, but i don't think it'd be too intrusive. and i've always had trouble typing on touch screen keyboards, so i think my thumbs might be kinda fat anyway. i know the incredible has really shitty battery life. i'm not sure if the droid 2 is worth waiting for aside from the fact that it might be cheaper than the other 2 options. what say ye? 6/23/2010 4:52:59 PM |

Droid 2 will likely be 199 like the Droid X. If you want cheap, find a good deal on the original droid, install froyo and overclock it. Or just talk me into selling mine with the multimedia dock, car mount and case.

well it still seems to be relatively thin, but i guess it would take up much more space in terms of both width and length. i didn't really care for the original droid's qwerty keypad, but from what i understand, droid 2's seems to be an improvement. is there even a release date yet? i'd prefer to get something sooner rather than later. what would be the best choice between the droid x and droid incredible?6/23/2010 5:35:34 PM |

Droid 2 is rumored to be released in August. Keyboard doesn't have the dpad and takes up the whole slide but the keys still look to be relatively flat.
As for Droid X v Incredible, I'd lean toward the Droid X. The 1GHz omap processor and separate PowerVR GPU perform better in benchmarks than the Snapdragon. Larger 4.3" TFT screen that is easier to see in sunlight than AMOLED, better battery life. You could probably go on and on.
Spec Comparison
Droid X dimensions- 5.02 x 2.58 x 0.39 ", ~5.47oz
