the page that tweeted that UK offered is the same twitter page that said he committed to State. I think it's run by his AAU team/coach. so i'm leaning towards it being legit. but i dont think i've seen it verified anywhere else4/28/2015 9:02:26 AM |

Think the Kentucky offer is indeed legit.
I think it's a coupling of him reclassifying last week and UK missing on some higher rated guys. UK is missing late, but they still have a 5* PG, 5* C, and 4* SG coming in next year. They still have 8 guys on scholarship, several were highly ranked recruits, but they just didn't have a lot of PT last year. Think Kentucky saw him as a possible role-player/gap-filler type pick-up to get by this year with more bodies. But a really good chance they'd just keep him around 4-years as a role-player/back-up as they bring in 5* guys each season to be "starters". 4/28/2015 9:37:08 AM |

Kentucky offer is legit...Calipari is on his way to visit Kirk today.
If this kid is dumb enough to not see that he'll never see significant minutes at Kentucky...then fuck him. 4/28/2015 10:24:59 AM |

Quote : | "Shaun Kirk committed to North Carolina State on Monday. But by Monday evening, John Calipari and Kentucky offered Kirk, a 6-foot-6 combo forward, a scholarship and that changed things, according to a source. "He intends to explore that option," the source told Scout. Kirk, who is eligible to go to college this coming season, didn't sign any paperwork after he committed to N.C. State. A standout at Whiteville (N.C.) High, Kirk played this spring with Team Loaded. He's impressed coaches with his elite athleticism and energy. Kirk is regarded as a three-star prospect on Scout." |
great. i actually saw some of him on a team loaded highlights vid a couple weeks ago without knowing who he was and was really impressed. don't think he will get a lot of minutes next year but could see him making an impact his sophomore year.4/28/2015 10:26:05 AM |

we dont even have that much better of a PT situation since he'd be behind the martins here (although without some improvement on their part he could easily pass them)
uk has poythress coming back from an acl (and he might play more PF this year) and...that's it

Their PT looks good right now, but they're still recruiting guys ranked higher than him...and you know they'll pull in whoever they want next year that will play in front of him.
We're not really looking at any SF/stretch PFs for next year. 4/28/2015 11:12:00 AM |

i think offering him now is a pretty apparent sign of where they're at with the studs. they aint comin'
the juco SG and high school SG could slide over and take those minutes but i doubt kirk is thinking about that
yeah he'll get recruited over but remember these are high school kids. he's gunna BLOW UP at UK and go pro after a year!!! 4/28/2015 11:17:40 AM |

you think it's a coincidence kirk committed an hour after brandon ingram made it official to duke?
we're no different here. UK is just higher up the food chain. he couldve gone to charlotte or wherever and played 35 mpg 4/28/2015 11:25:17 AM |

Ingram sent his LOI to Duke last week. Our coaches have known for a while that we probably weren't getting Ingram. We might have held out a little hope, but we've been recruiting Kirk for a while (mostly for '16). But he transferred back to his public school and re-classified back to '15.
I think we've wanted Kirk the whole time for '16. Obviously not getting Ingram probably made him more of a need for '15...but we've been after him for a bit. His improved play over the weekend when Moxley was watching him (the weekend BEFORE Ingram committed) also helped speed up the recruitment.4/28/2015 11:45:40 AM |

http://usatodayhss.com/2015/n-c-state-commit-considering-new-kentucky-hoops-offer
Quote : | "LEXINGTON, Ky. – Shaun Kirk was on N.C. State’s campus Monday afternoon and couldn’t help himself. After a big showing in an AAU event in Indianapolis over the weekend, the 6-foot-7 small forward from Whiteville, N.C., had just gotten his highest-profile scholarship offer from the Wolfpack and he accepted it on the spot. I’m coming, he told them.
“But then here comes something bigger and better,” Whiteville High School coach Jerry Singleton said. “The timing couldn’t be worse, really. I wish he would’ve just thought a little bit more before he said that, and then it would be a lot easier for him today. Now he’s really torn.”
That’s because by the time Kirk got home Monday night, University of Kentucky coach John Calipari was calling to extend a scholarship offer. The Wildcats, who watched Kirk put on a show in Indianapolis, need a small forward in this recruiting class and the late interest might reflect their confidence (or lack thereof) in landing five-star prospect Jaylen Brown.
Kirk, a three-star recruit, is not a typical UK target. But this is an unusual class for the Cats after seven players declared for the NBA draft, and Kirk’s stock is on the rise after several strong performances on the AAU circuit. Singleton said West Virginia, Missouri, Marquette, Ole Miss, VCU and Rutgers have all shown interest recently. But Kentucky stands out.
“You say the grass ain’t always greener on the other side, but could it be?” Singletary said. “I think he’s very interested in what Kentucky has going on out there. He’s just overwhelmed a little bit, because when you talk to a person like Calipari on the phone, he was like, ‘Wow, Coach, I didn’t know this could happen.’ I love N.C. State, but when you go home and – from a business aspect – Kentucky calls you, I know what I would do.”
He said Kirk won’t take the decision lightly, though, and appreciates the value of sticking to his word. Singletary wants to speak directly to Calipari and hear how the Cats want to use him. Whether he changes his commitment or not, the coach is just happy his star is finally getting the attention he believes he’s deserved all along.
“Shaun’s not been on the radar like he should have been. But I guess good things come to those who wait,” the coach said. If he goes to UK, “they’re going to get a kid that can shoot it from the outside and is just an uncanny athlete. He can get up and get it, and he can finish it. He’s 6-7 ½ and he’s still growing. He’s a player that can come in and make a difference.
“He’s not all the way polished yet – I’ll be the first to say that – but he can play.”" |
pretty sure I can already guess how that phone call with Cal will go... dude is already in love with him.4/28/2015 12:09:03 PM |

from that article i can't really tell what kirk thinks of UK...but you can definitely tell that his coach is all about UK.
then again, that's his high school. Not his team loaded AAU coach - no telling which coach he's looking to more for guidance here. seems like a lot of recruits are really all about their AAU team and coach and that's where the most influence comes from.4/28/2015 12:34:40 PM |

Very disappointed in my high school alma mater's coach.
Although I have no idea who the fuck he is. The coach when I was there was awesome. Two state championships, over 400 wins, and screwed a couple hot chicks in his office. He also sent one player to State (Andre McCullom..didn't do much) and almost another (Chris Wilcox...who probably would have gone to State if he hadn't transferred to Enloe).
We're a pretty NC State friendly town. Fuck that coach. 4/28/2015 12:54:07 PM |

^^ I was talking about his coach since he was the one who said he "wants to speak directly to Calipari and hear how the Cats want to use [Kirk]"
see now how that could have been confusing tho

Hopefully he looks past the name "Kentucky" and actually thinks about PT at each school.
Our last 3* recruit has started the last 2 years, when is the last time a 3* player started at Kentucky? I know the guy can develop into a good player at either school, but going to be much easier actually seeing the court for 4 years. 4/28/2015 1:54:06 PM |
