I think the Kirk being a key piece of getting DSJr and Bam Bam are really over-blown. It wasn't a huge factor in getting those 2 guys, esp. since those guys haven't said they're a package deal at all.
DSJr grew up a NC State fan, not sure how missing on Kirk is going to change that. We have to pitch him the same thing we've been pitching for over a year now. "Stay home, play in the ACC, help your favorite team, you'll be a one-and-done wherever you go." He's already being recruited by every major program in the country and we're still currently his leader. Really just have to hope he wants to commit early and build a team around him recruiting players to help.
Bam Bam has said he's a UNC fan but his mother is a die-hard NC State fan. Once again, not sure how much of a factor having Kirk on roster would really effect his recruitment. Really we just need to hope that he and DSJr enjoy playing together enough to be a package deal so we can really be the "stand out" option for both of them.
Whoever gets Kirk doesn't hold some key piece to getting the other 2 guys. Kirk is just a great athlete and has the potential to be the next Tokoto(with a better jump shot) and that intrigues guys. UK needs bodies just like we do. Difference is we likely won't just recruit over him like UK inevitably will. 4/29/2015 9:29:58 AM |

How do you tell a recruit that another program is going to recruit over him without hatin on his game? 4/29/2015 10:12:13 AM |

By showing him similar players and the way Cal has recruited lately.
The last 3* players they signed never saw more than a few minutes a game and were basically used as glorified walk-ons. Where as we can compare him to Leonard Freeman, who we got last minute on a reclassification, was underrated and seen as a 3* player out of high school, and he's been starting for us for 2 years and developing his game a ton on the court.
I don't think it's hating on the kids game to show him Cal's history of taking solid guys and recruiting over them and pushing them out of the program with his affinity for the one-and-done players.
I'm not saying you want to point out to the kid that he's "just a 3* recruit, and Cal just wants a warm body", that sounds bad. But you can show that Cal is notorious for taking guys for depth and then recruiting over them without trying to actually help them develop their game and getting them some meaningful PT.
I mean Cal has put a ton of 4/5* guys in the NBA, but he's also taken several 4/5* players and he's pushed them out of the program and/or they never made it to the NBA because he didn't help develop their game or gave up on them and recruited over them. 4/29/2015 10:21:55 AM |

You point to Derek Willis, a 3* sophomore this past year who averaged 3.9 mpg in 19 games.. Or Dominique Hawkins who was a 3* sophomore who averaged 7.1 in 23 games.. I guess those might be the guys next year unless the get a few more 5* guys
Not that I'd think we have a ton of time to offer next year either 4/29/2015 10:38:05 AM |

We have some time to offer, we don't really have a returning starting wing player. I mean the Martin twins will likely eat up most of those minutes, but one Martin twin is supposedly trying to bulk up and play the 4, so he'd really have a chance to see some minutes on the wing. 4/29/2015 11:08:57 AM |

i read somewhere that he was considering taking an official visit to UK this weekend, but hadn't decided for sure. of course, if he doesn't take the official that would help us out a lot. if he does take the official, with signing day so close, that may not bode well for our chances.
but i haven't seen anything saying he firmed up his commitment or anything so idk 4/29/2015 4:14:53 PM |

from what i read Rowsey will be taking all the visits, based solely on the fact he has paid for all the tickets.
Quote : | "Caught up with his dad today and he said Rowsey now has three firm official visits: NC State (Thursday), Cincinnati (next weekend), and Marquette (two weekends from now).
He added it's safe to say those are the three leaders and that Rowsey plans on visiting all three given the tickets have been purchased. " |

Kirk looks like a Caleb Martin clone to me. Both have the same frame and that across-the-face jump shot. Kirk is probably a little more athletic and Martin is probably the better ball-handler/playmaker, but their games look remarkably similar. (this comparison based on the 4 min of video highlights I've seen).

tweet from PP: UNC Asheville transfer Andrew Rowsey's visit to NC State has been canceled, according to sources. He was scheduled to visit tomorrow. post on PP from James: NC State has canceled the visit with Andrew Rowsey.
slightly different wording, but sounds like we stopped pursuing him with the implication being that we are happy with how things are looking for 2016. to me, it seems like we would still have minutes for him in '16 even if Smith comes and Barber leaves since he can play both guard positions, but I trust that the staff knows what they're doing. way too early, but I was already getting excited about the possibility of a roster that looked something like Smith, Rowsey, Henderson, Cody, Caleb, Kirk, Freeman, Anya, Bam Bam in 16-17.
(looking at that now, I can see where the staff could envision us not really using Rowsey much more than we used Des this year if everything else falls into place, but I still think that's a valuable role and important to have a guy in that spot when someone else isn't clicking or is hurt)

^ I don't agree with that. If his only criteria is to win a ton of games...then yeah, UK will probably win more games than us over his collegiate career.
But he's got a better chance to play at State. As well as being closer to home...and possibly being able to play with his AAU teammates in Smith and Bam Bam. 4/30/2015 7:26:46 AM |

Bad wording on my part. Should have said "No way in hell should that guy have signed with us if UK offered and that was his best option where he wanted to go." Sounded like he was really excited about UK. Either way I'm pleased. 4/30/2015 8:17:58 AM |

^sounded like he was probably headed to wilmington just a few weeks ago and now he's getting an offer from UK. so going from very little attention to a lot of attention in such a short time frame probably was part of him being so excited about the UK offer. 4/30/2015 8:56:58 AM |

Most predicted Kirk to Wake actually, but he had offers from VCU and Auburn as well.
Kirk would have landed several offers as a 2016 recruit, but he reclassified a week before the late signing period while other big-time prospects were making their decisions. I agree with what Gott said, the kid has tremendous upside and I like that he's been called a "hard-worker" and Gott noted that he'd "improved every time he saw him play." I think the kid turns out to be the next Freeman for us, under-the-radar late re-classified commit that comes in and is a solid player for us. 4/30/2015 9:45:07 AM |
