I still think that trevor lacey declaring for the draft is one of the dumbest decisions that a college player has made in the last 5 years. 6/25/2015 1:27:38 PM |

sounds like State in the Final Four and the Hornets in the NBA Finals, according to TWW

It would be cool if the Hornets gave Lacey some sort of unselected free agent deal to try out or something. If he worked out at that level it would get some butts in the seats from State fans - kinda how the pandered to UNC fans by taking Hairston last year. 6/25/2015 2:02:25 PM |

yeah, except that doesn't actually work. pro teams get people to show up by having good teams.6/25/2015 3:47:09 PM |

He has absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain by staying on to pursue what was looking to be a very promising year. The whole age argument is old and tired because he is already past the desirable age for many draft people, so staying later wont kill his chances at all, and let's face it, he most probably wont be a second rounder, and almost certainly not a 1st. So, why not just double up and bet on another NCAA run that will get him exposure that is incredibly rare and much more valuable than playing in Europe or the DL?. There is precedent here guys, as that strategy has certainly worked before for oldish players. It would be much better than just putting yourself in a larger pool of guys playing in the DLeague or Europe (like brandon costner for example) that can't get on an NBA roster to save their lives. So, if he's putting himself in the position to go down that path, then one more year would only help really.

a year's salary playing in Europe, verses getting yourself into the late first round which he could have done with a strong run. I bet that he would have been able to regain his losses.
Look guys, you can check my post history, I am pretty much always for people going pro, but in this case it was just not a smart decision.

^ The difference is that CJ would have been drafted had he decided to go, and he should have gone, but the same scenario isn't true for ol' Lacey.

he actually had very little to gain and a ton to lose by staying. but whatever. the argument's been beaten to death. nobody's really gonna change their mind anytime soon.

tbh, i haven't followed their recruitment too heavily. but isn't smith like the #1 PG in the nation? and bam is #8 overall in the nation according to ESPN. seems to me like those are the level of recruits the Duke or KY would already be all in on if they thought they had a good chance at them.6/25/2015 4:44:31 PM |

Duke has Thornton and Kentucky is moving on with other PGs. I think the general consensus is that DSJr will pick NC State in the Fall. Obviously things change, but I think him being a life-long NC State fan and is a definite 1-and-done are all playing in our favor.
Also having Bam saying he sees himself playing college with a PG like Cat Barber or DSJr is good for us.
I don't think it matters as much about Cal going "all-in" on these guys because I think both of these guys want to stay close to home. I think UNC and ECU are more of a threat for Bam than UK. 6/25/2015 9:52:19 PM |

^^it's hard for me to buy into some of that stuff - and i'm not doubting what you've read/heard or anything. just in general, it seems like every offseason player X lost 20 pounds of fat and player Y added 15 pounds of muscle and player Z is unguardable. with that said, i can't wait to see Cat this year. he was a monster the last half of the season and he was doing some incredible stuff. 6/30/2015 8:10:03 AM |

i could maybe buy that it'll be close to the same but with our only stretch 4 leaving I'm not seeing how the team could be better unless henderson is scott wood 2.0 and one of the martins completely re-worked their shot 6/30/2015 8:22:44 AM |

Its an article detailing his most recent visit to St. Johns...of course they're going to look good.
Wisconsin appears out of it because of Ryan.
St. Johns probably has an edge because their whole fucking team left after Lavin got fired. I think I read somewhere that they have 4 scholarship players returning. And obviously the father/Mullin connection is big.
But we actually have a coach with experience and a solid team to come in and be a piece of a puzzle...not the centerpiece with the pressure of carrying the team.
Hopefully he likes option B.6/30/2015 9:22:37 AM |

I think Rowan is a great player to add, just wonder if we don't have a logjam of wings. Can't pass on a shooter of his abilities, just curious how many scholarships we really allocate to wings when next year's class is shaping up to be a potentially huge one. 6/30/2015 9:39:45 AM |
jbrick83 All American 23447 Posts user info edit post |
^ We're probably only on him because he's such a good shooter. After that, we're looking at one wing next year (Christian Matthews), and that's about it. We're on the list for other guys, but he's the only one that looks like we have a good chance. After that, it's all PGs and big men. We're stacked with wings for a couple years. I imagine we'll have a transfer or two, but these guys can be spread out between the 2, 3, and 4 positions. So there will be PT available...just gotta earn it. 6/30/2015 9:56:45 AM |

we're apparently ramping up our pursuit of Sacha Killeya-Jones from Virginia. 4* Rivals rating, class of 2015.
offers from unc, kentucky, notre dame, wake forest, vt, virginia, and several smaller schools.
crazy to think that a couple months ago we were looking at 0 commits, now we could potentially beat out kentucky for 2 guys in this class and add rowan who is a 4*. obviously, landing both rowan and killeya-jones is not a given by any stretch. just interesting to see how quickly things can change in terms of the entire recruiting class. 7/1/2015 5:40:46 PM |
