Let's get it together and pick up a win tonight. It will be good to see Vasicek back in action.

And, I'll have to admit, I will also be looking forward to seeing this guy play in person for the first time:

Oh snap, he's gonna get pounded for wearing that thing again.

Vasicek and Wallin both back tonight (and Hutch is getting trotted out I do believe), so that means LaRose and Babchuk will sit.

Agreed. I was also VERY impressed with the Whitney-Weight-Recchi line (or as I was calling them, the old man line...granted, they aren't THAT old, but it fits compared to the rest of the team).

BRIND'AMOUR FOR THE SELKE!

... whats the word on Erik Cole?

^from what I've read, he's been cleared to "ride the bike," so at least he's progressing along well. I wouldn't expect him to be back for any part of the playoffs without some miracle recovery, and after seeing Big Joe last night, I'm not quite as worried about the team without Cole.

I knew we had to have Jo V. back, if not Erik Cole, he is definately a necessity.

I'm not AS worried now with him back in the line-up but a couple of things need to be factored in.

He could have just a GREAT game back, we don't know if he can carry the team the rest of the regular season like he did last night and he definately can't carry the team alone in the play-offs.

Erik Cole drives to the net and plays so wicked awesome that without him, even with Vasicek in the line up, may be a huge factor in the playoffs.

I'm not saying Cole IS the team by any means but he definately charges the team and Eric Staal plays so much better when Cole is out there "challenging" him.

I'm also not so concered because we have such a great and talented team across the board that we don't really have ONE guy that does everything. Brindy, Stillman, and Staal are great - but on any given night the "quiet" players - Cullen, Whitney, and Williams are going to get just as many "must have" goals as anyone else.

On that note - GOD DAMN it was nice to have Big Jo back.

well, Vasicek was predicted to have a breakout season this year. then again, predictions should be taken with a grain of salt given that the 'Canes were predicted to be dead last in the league.

I suppose there's no better time for Vasicek to start making up for lost time than now and during the playoffs

Justin Williams has more points than Stillman and Brind'Amour. The dude is certainly not quiet.

I'm also glad that Burnside mentioned the standing O during the last game of 2001. My dad is no great fan of any sport (aside from racing, which is his career/business), but he was at that game with me and still speaks very fondly of the non-stop cheering, through shots and stoppages, in the last few minutes of that game.

^ I didn't mean quiet as "They don't produce" - I meant it more as "unsung heroes"- the guys who really get the job done but don't get all the spotlight.

I wish Cole the best but agree that we probably won't see him on the ice until next year.

What we really need is a healthier defense right now. Wesley is not officially injured, but he's got to be nursing something because that first Caps game he was not his normal self. It seemed like Ward/Commodore or Kaberle/Tverdovsky were on the ice most of the time. If Wesley, Wallin, and Hedican can get close to 100%, then I'll breath easier.
