I picked up Uncharted last night, and the game is an absolute blast. It grabbed me from the start and the only thing that stopped me from playing was having to go to work the next morning. The best feature by far has to be absolutely no load times whatsoever. You're constantly kept in the action and the game never lets up.
Also, whoever said they thought CoD4 looked better is absolutely out of their mind. I played the two back to back to try and compare and it's really no comparison. CoD4 has some neat effects and really tries to wow you with some awesome fast moving action, but once you stop and look around at the details, you find a game that was obviously built for the lowest common denominator. The textures, character models, animation, and lighting are all pretty much average by today's standards and are inferior to Uncharted. Keep in mind, Uncharted's native resolution is 720p and I was playing it on a 60" 1080p TV, whereas I played CoD4 at 1920x1200 on my 24" widescreen monitor.
All in all, if you own a PS3, play this game. It's got the most unique blend of action, adventure, and shooting you'll find this year and there isn't another game like it on the market. It's also the prettiest console game you've ever played. 11/21/2007 10:39:54 AM |

The PlayStation 3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 has gone gold!
Mark Rein said they got news last night that Unreal Tournament 3 has been approved by SCEA and has been released to North American manufacturing.
Midway has started talking to retailers to figure out exact timing and they will have a formal announcement early next week when everyone is back from the Thanksgiving holiday. He said Midway should start shipping the title to North American retailers on Monday December 10th and it could show up in stores as early as December 11th but more likely toward the middle of that week. He also thinks PS3 owners are going to really enjoy UT3 this holiday so make sure you get it on your shopping list!' 11/21/2007 6:06:34 PM |

Warhawk Patch:
Quote : | "New Warhawk™ downloadable pack coming to PLAYSTATION®Network this December
Announcing Operation: Omega Dawn Get a brand new map and a new aircraft: the awesome KT-424 Combat Dropship. All this in one download from PLAYSTATION®Network
The battle began this August when Warhawk™ went online on PLAYSTATION®Network (PSN). Since then, the fighting has spanned the globe as PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) gamers of all nationalities battle for supremacy in this world of multiplayer military confrontation. Whether you’re fending for yourself or enlisting in a team of Eucadian or Chernovan forces to wage war on foot, at the controls of a tank or from the cockpit of the fearsome Warhawk, there’s non-stop action ahead in Warhawk – and it’s about to get even better with the PSN release of Operation: Omega Dawn, the first downloadable Warhawk expansion pack exclusively available from PLAYSTATION®Store. Operation: Omega Dawn delivers a new gameplay experience that expands the title’s strategic gameplay elements by offering a new world to explore and introducing a unique aircraft to the Warhawk universe: the awesome KT-424 Combat Dropship.
With Operation: Omega Dawn, the war between the Eucadians and the Chernovans forces continues as the two countries fight to control the high-tech facilities of a critical new battlefield – the Omega Factory. The battle takes place in an entirely new world - an industrial night-time setting where players will fight through five new layouts of advanced building complexes and huge industrial towers. The new map supports all existing game modes – including Team Deathmatch, Zone Mode and Capture the Flag – and is the largest combat zone to date for Warhawk!
But that’s not all; no new battlefield would be complete without a new piece of kit, and Operation: Omega Dawn comes complete with a serious toy which will enhance the already intense Warhawk experience: the KT-424 Combat Dropship. You’ll activate the vehicle once you gain control of one of the many weapons factories on the world; once you have it, you’re in charge of an advanced aircraft capable of carrying seven soldiers and a ground vehicle at once. The KT-424 Combat Dropship transports 1 pilot, 6 soldiers and 1 ground vehicle; and features a deadly new weapon – the MBEC-3 Heavy Support Cannon. You’ll have loads of opportunity to take full advantage of the new KT-424 Combat Dropship because the new world is full of vertical gameplay which integrates ship decks, raised platforms, and factory rooftops accessible only by airborne deployment.
Are you ready for Operation: Omega Dawn? Only the fiercest, most visionary and most disciplined teams of soldiers can hope to carry the day. We’ll see you there – locked and loaded - on PSN this December.
Operation: Omega Dawn pack features:
Set at night for added impact and tension, the Operation: Omega Dawn pack for Warhawk™ features an enhanced level of teamwork, tactics and coordinated aerial assaults with the new KT-424 Combat Dropship.
* Omega Factory battlefield includes 5 new map layouts featuring advanced building complexes and huge industrial towers. * KT-424 Combat Dropship transports 1 pilot, 6 soldiers and 1 ground vehicle; and features a deadly new weapon – the MBEC-3 Heavy Support Cannon. * The 5 large layouts from the original battlefields have been modified to include the KT-424 Combat Dropship. * All this in one single download from PLAYSTATION Network this December

Pretty disappointing about the Orange Box. Although I can't say I'm too surprised, considering EA handled it. Oh well, I'll probably just do what I should've done anyway and just buy it for PC (FPS = Keyboard + Mouse, there's really no other way).
I've got enough credit for 2 games at Wal-Mart and I know I'm gonna pick up Uncharted, but I need another title to pick up. I'm tempted by Assassin's but I don't think it will have too much replay value. I might just have to wait until Burnout drops in January. 11/26/2007 2:47:50 PM |

EA really has no respect for Sony anymore do they? I say, why even bother publishing if you release that crap.
It doesn't matter to me personally b/c I have and have already notched like 60 hours on that bad boy for PC...but for those that wanted to play that, and only had a ps3, i'd be pretty damned upset. 11/26/2007 5:39:07 PM |

Wow I got this game today and it is loads more fun than Assassin's Creed. This game actually doesn't get that old. I am on chapter 10 or whatever after playing for most of the day. I honestly couldn't stop once I got started. The graphics are awesome and gameplay is solid. It is like playing a movie as a game.11/27/2007 1:59:56 AM |

Might just be damage control, but from the videos it seems far from "unplayable" as was reported earlier. In any case, playing this game on a console = automatic fail anyway. Although Sony should swing a way to get Portal on PSN.
Was anyone out on the morning of Black friday? I was in line at Circuit City and saw quite a few people walking out with PS3s. Anecdotal evidence I know, but combine that with some recent PR from Sony (http://kotaku.com/gaming/statistical-shenanigans/sony-ps3-sales-up-nearly-300-percent-326658.php) and sales in Japan (outselling the Wii, zomfg!!!). Has the PS3 finally turned the corner?11/27/2007 9:30:00 AM |
Kainen All American 3507 Posts user info edit post |
Hope so...
Although this PR Spin as some comments alluded to can be deceptive, talking about percentages are fruitless when you don't know the comparative figure or have real NPD data. Weekly the PS3 was previously selling pretty badly so 300% isn't something that astonishing. It's the holidays and black friday - all consoles are getting a boost, sales are spiking for video games in general and it's awesome. It's no wonder...there's some great titles out there. Wii is slowing down in Japan...although fuck, I think that's cause everyone freakin has one.
Software sales are still trash...hell the British charts were just released and ps3 had one title in the top 10. Just one...and it was Assassin's Creed at #8. Rubbing salt in the wound, the 360 version of the same game was at #1. FWIW
Regardless it's not bad news but I won't say PS3 has turned the corner til we see what it does in it's second pivotal year. No more excuses.....get the firmware and PSN up to spec, Fix the damn UI and friends list management, GET MORE GAMES out the door, stop tolerating bad ports as everyone will by the 360 versions, fix or clear up (cover up? lol) the BC issue -- and then I see no reason they can't catch up to the competition and succeed this generation. 11/27/2007 10:00:07 AM |

well i generally think that people care about a console's success because it has a lot to do with the software support it will ultimately see in it's life. In this instance, you like I, want more damn games.
Well, to get that at an impressive level, the hardware install base needs to be at an impressive level. Not there yet. 11/27/2007 10:32:44 AM |

yeah yeah yeah. I'm already happy with my purchase, love the games I have. MGS4 is going to put it over the edge though. And then we've got Killzone and FF13, Reistance 2. I'm not worried at all about the games coming out. 11/27/2007 10:37:22 AM |
Kainen All American 3507 Posts user info edit post |
lol. dude, Im not saying that. it's not about JUSTIFYING YOUR PURCHASE ok? I'm not barking up that tree, so quit draping that same proactive defense out there.
Needles, it seems really counterintuitive to say - well, I've paid off the system in $entertainment value so i'm not concerned with good games coming out. Love the games I have. Well I mean, so do I but its not like you run laps around the sames games b/c they replay that well. I mean, what? You'll have this system for years and years and years and as a natural game you SHOULD want as many fantastic games as you can get. Why wouldn't you? It's a good thing, we as ps3 owners should want the system to do well to improve on all the potential it has. What's wrong with that?
You cite MGS4, Killzone2 and FF13. We definitely know that 3....MGS4 will be q4 2008, Killzone 2 Q1 2009, FF13 Q4 2009. So basically it's one calendar year til you'll see even 1 of 3 of those titles. Another year to see all 3.
Why not care about what comes out in these interim year(s)? I care, I mean shit, I want good stuff.

The devs don't wanna pour money into the ports because they won't make much dough.
The buyers don't wanna buy the shitty ports, so the devs make no money off their PS3 ports.

^^ haha, wasn't trying to argue, just stating that I'm not too concerned with how the PS3 is going to do, which basically means I think its going to be fine. I listed those block buster titles as my evidence I guess.
What I mean to say I guess since you misinterpreted my positive attitude as defensive rhetoric, is that I have enjoyed my PS3, look forward to what is coming out, and any concern over how well the system is going to sell has been a moot point as anything related to this has yet to take away from my experience on this machine. MGS4, KZ2, and FF13 are just killer titles that have been in the works for a while and I'm sure there are many others to come so I'm just not that worried. about it. I think if there was any real concern that the bottom was going to fall out of Sony (like Sega) then that would be different, but common. I'm not concerned with all the negative media attention this thing gets, that's just silly.
^ Not that worried about ports. Multi-platform games are usually the shitty games. Only one I really care about is GTA4, and if that ends up being ass on the PS3 then i will be upset.
