I saw Valiant Thor, Baroness, BtBam, and Mastodon last night in knoxville at the Valarium. Was not into Valiant Thor (sounded sort of like redneck party metal) but Baroness stole the show overall. I like BtBam and Mastodon alot but Baroness just came out and owned their set. It was nice to see

has anyone seen Phoenix live? I'm going to their show next week in CLT. I've finally gotten a few of my close friends into the indie scene and Phoenix was one of the bands they latched onto pretty fast.

hahah, i didn't even see that someone asked this up there

The Love Language got put on the Phoenix shows tomorrow and Saturday.

Crazy.

^^ I haven't heard any of their specific duet material, but there's a duet on one of his solo records called "End of the Affair" that's pretty good. It's not anything more than a standard alt-country song, but it's a decent one.

This.

The Dodos were incredible, The New Pornos were very average. Kinda what I expected, though. Still blows my mind that The Dodos' drummer doesn't play with a kick drum.

that is exactly how I described the New Pornos set after the show

it was probably a combination of the Dodos melting everyone's face off, little crowd interaction, and the crowd

that crowd was pretty horrible

[Edited on June 28, 2010 at 11:15 PM. Reason : I still <3 Neko, though]

yeah, still love neko, but she wasn't lookin too hot for that show. She looked very tired, as did all of them. Definitely a very low energy show. Agreed about the crowd, there were like 2 kids getting into it at the front and the rest of the people (myself included) just standing still, watching, not really that into it. Kinda odd.

hahaha...well, they talked like superfans, but they danced like ratards, so who's to say? funny you should ask, though...whenever that crazy girl without a bra came to the front swaying back and forth like a maniac, my girlfriend said, "oh look, there's superfan #1!"

not to take away from the indie-hipster movement, but Thrice was much more entertaining than their newest cd led me to believe. Good mix of new and old and their newer stuff sounded much better live than on the album.

Agreed on the New Pornos show. I thought it was a good set list, but not a lot of energy. I guess that's to be expected after 17 shows in 19 days. And the only crowd interaction was to call out people shouting requests with the wrong song titles. I was in the balcony, so I couldn't see much of the crowd at the ground level.

http://www.matadorrecords.com/21/

I'd go to this even if only to see the GBV Dayton lineup live.
