Why not just, like, wait until tomorrow to order it? Does handing your money to Apple TODAY really make that big of a difference? 3/7/2012 6:17:45 PM |

When they released the iPhone4, people said the same thing. People that waited one day to pre-order ended up having to wait 2-3 weeks after the launch day to get their new phones. If you're willing to risk it, that's your call, but I wanted one A.S.A.P. so I made sure to get my pre-order in as soon as I could. 3/7/2012 6:21:20 PM |

Where was 1GB ram confirmed? 3/7/2012 9:16:14 PM |
El Nachó special helper 16370 Posts user info edit post |
It hasn't been confirmed yet with an actual new iPad, but the amount of RAM in each device is hard coded into the OS and a few days ago some developers were looking at the 5.1 beta and found references to it having 1GB. Also I remember reading last year that 1GB would be the minimum amount of RAM needed to run a display at 2048 x 1536. So I guess we'll have to wait and see for sure, but I'll be really surprised if it doesn't have at least a gig. 3/7/2012 9:39:26 PM |

i'd be very surprised too (if it didn't have at least 1GB). it should have 2GB to handle the next big iOS update, but they wouldn't be able to ship as may iPad 4's if they did that.
i am looking forward to checking out one of these iPad 3 displays though. the difference from my old iPhone compared to my 4S now is ridiculous. 3/7/2012 9:58:45 PM |

Grrr...So after reading ^that I decided to change my order from a 32GB to a 64GB, so I went to see if I could make the change to my order, but it would only let me cancel. So I placed the order for the new one and got the confirmation email. Then I went back to cancel the first one, and it will let me cancel the order for the iPad, but it won't let me cancel the AppleCare+. But then when I submit the cancellation for the iPad it says I can't remove it without removing "the other items" on my order. But, again, it won't let me select the AppleCare+ for removal. So now I'm stuck with two orders. Which means I'll have to call the 800 number tomorrow and probably wait on hold for several hours to get it canceled by hand. Meh. 3/8/2012 3:42:05 AM |

My partner in crime. We liveblogged this today. I had a half-hour afterwards to play with it. The screen is just nuts, but until devs rework apps to really take advantage, it's only super great for iPhoto tinkering and text (ebooks, etc.)
iPhoto will be crazy addictive for casual photo lovers, but it's not useful enough for serious edits. Still, $4.99 is a steal.3/8/2012 3:54:52 AM |

Why would you want to do that? It has less pixels....
In all seriousness, it's hella easy with an Apple TV via Air Play. The only other option I'm aware of (I'm sure there are others) is buying the HDMI adapter from Apple. 3/8/2012 10:04:53 AM |

Don't want to buy an Apple TV.
I had an old Macbook that I bought HDMI connector with and had hella-problems hooking it up to my TV (even had a techie-friend struggle with it). I'm really close to getting the new iPad and I'm hoping it will be pretty simple to do this so I can watch Hulu and streaming basketball games on it. 3/8/2012 10:35:59 AM |

you can get a ipod/ipad A/V or HDMI cable and connect directly. From apple it's like $40, and i'd imagine monoprice has a $5 one.
i'd buy a used ATV2 cheap to make this happen without cables. I hate cables though. 3/8/2012 10:42:30 AM |

I, too, hate cables. I've got a pretty sweet, new LED big screen TV. Will the ATV2 combo with the ipad lower that picture quality any? At some point I'm thinking of getting rid of my Directv and just going all streaming. Will I notice a big difference in picture?
Wonder if I can get a cheap refurb ATV2 from Apple...

The screen sharing feature is pretty damn cool on the ATVs. Just know that if you order an older ATV, it only outputs at 720p, no matter what the source. The new ones do 1080p, although, I haven't heard if the screen sharing bumps up to 1080p as well. I assume it does, but it might not. It always amazed me how quick the refresh rate was in the first place at 720p.3/8/2012 11:53:31 AM |

i'm wondering if the 4G version is worth the extra cost. I figure if I were to get one it would be used 90% of the time at home or at least where wifi is available. Anywhere i didn't have a hotspot I would have my iPhone for directions or web access.
would probably spend the extra money on the 32GB or something instead. 3/8/2012 11:54:30 AM |

they haven't done so yet. also the cell coverage on iPads is month-to-month. you can turn it on and off as you like.
you'd probably be better off just jailbreaking your iphone and tethering or paying for the mobile iphone hotspot with vzw or att.
