Loved it, the payoff episode everyone was waiting for.

Had to rewind the part where the goofy wide eyed bastard next to Stannis got his head bashed in with a rock like 15 times.

I knew it was coming because of the books and I still got the tiniest bit emotional when Tyrion got his face cut.

Great, great, great payoff episode. Especially when you consider their budget compared to major studio films that try to make battle scenes like that. The wildfire shit was done very well. I was hoping it would be a little bit more hellish (again, I know this is taboo, but in the books, Davos describes the burning wildfire as being like the fleet had sailed into the mouth of hell or something like that) and show a little bit more of it from the viewpoint of Stannis' fleet, but I understand why they kept that a little bit shorter.

And yeah, the guy who went after Tyrion was Ser Mandon Moore, a member of Joffrey's Kingsguard and the guy that Tyrion told before the battle to bear their banner. I believe he was also the one that was going to beat Sansa for Joffrey before Tyrion saved her.

I was confused as to whether or not Sansa actually did decide to leave with the Hound. It did seem to insinuate that she was about to leave with him at the end.

I thought she was absolutely leaving with the hound. The thought that she might not be didn't even cross my mind, but maybe i missed something or am forgetting how that scene ended

Sepinwall pointed out in his blog entry about this episode that they made a point of showing Sansa still clutching her doll at the end of the scene and she didn't drop it, possibly indicating that she might not be leaving with The Hound.

The wildfire stuff was done well. The actual battling was obviously very budget constrained. Looked like it was all filmed in a warehouse.

i know what you mean. i can't even recall shots that clearly show the sky in king's landing meanwhile winterfell in season 1 seemed like a bigger place.

I thought the thing with Sansa was meant to be left up in the air... him walking out, her standing there on the very brink of going/not going and for us to find out next week.

^ Yeah, the budget restraints of the battle were obvious. Mainly in the that the scale of the battle didn't seem close to what was suggested. Stannis said thousands would die, yet there barely appeared to be that many fighting. But I didn't mind since A) It's TV so it's expected, B) the episode as a whole was very good, and C) what was there of the battle was really good.

then I don't know why a shot of it would suggest to sepinwall that she's staying in King's Landing

if anything it should mean she's going to return home with the hound

to me, holding onto the doll would signify that she's still a scared little girl, despite her show of bravery in maegor's holdfast.

Unfortunately after the episode in the "scenes from next week" segment it shows whether or not Sansa goes with the Hound. If you haven't seen that part and you don't want it to be spoiled, be wary.

The reason I thought she was staying in KL is because in the "scenes from next week" it still shows Sansa in King's Landing

absolutely. he didn't even respond when the hound walked away. i wanted to see him cry!

also, i don't really understand why sansa wouldn't have left. i guess she really doesn't trust the hound? or she thinks she's better off in king's landing for some reason? i haven't read the books so i didn't have any great guesses for that

Matter fact, I was thinking about all the gore scenes, because that shit is cool to me. Basically talking about scenes beyond normals stabbings/arrows/blunt force traumas.

* Guy I mentioned getting the rock tossed down and bashing his skull
* Tyrion slicing the guy's leg off
* Hound cutting a guy's stomach to his intestines
* Hound cutting a guy IN FUCKING HALF
* Stannis cutting the top of a guy's head off
* Tyrion's servant jabbing a spear thru the back of the guy's head

Probably a few others Im missing

I watched that scene again tonight with a friend after we argued about this subject.

Sansa even says something like "So you won't hurt me, right?[(implied)IF I COME WITH YOU]" to the hound. To which he says, "I won't hurt you." It pretty clearly indicates that she should be leaving with him.

I know this will make me seem like a whiny bitch, but I make it a point to not watch "Next-week-on-game-of-thrones." They are spoilers packaged like lunch meat, I don't understand their existence. So fuck you for spoiling that.

Haha...that .gif of Tyrion cutting off the leg is hilarious. I haven't seen the episode yet, but those graphics/stunts look pretty bad. Good thing I don't really give a shit about those things in this show (I mean, after the black smoke came out of the red witches vagina, I"m kind of giving the special effects a pass).

i watched it again last night and when Sansa says "You won't hurt me", it seems more like a statement and not a question to me. I'm not sure it really matters much, but just an observation.

for a week or so

after that, she's prime for babymaking (I suppose I'm just guessing that there's no sci-fi/fantasy BS regarding periods)

Is it true that Martin calls it "moon blood" in the book?

that's the worst term for a period I've ever heard*

"The word "menstruation" is etymologically related to "moon". The terms "menstruation" and "menses" are derived from the Latin mensis (month), which in turn relates to the Greek mene (moon) and to the roots of the English words month and moon."

This came up in a documentary I was watched about a year ago (about wine making of all things). One of the wine makers was talking about how "discerning" his sense of smell as become over the years. IIRC, he went on to suggest that he could tell when a woman was on her period by smell. Except he said something like "over her moon" or "on her moon." Which i figured out through context clues that he meant her period. --- the documentary was Blood into Wine.

I had never heard anyone refer to a woman's period as anything moon related, so being curious... i looked into it and found the above information.

I understood the etymological (and monthly!) reference

just found it an odd and cumbersome phrase to bother with

[Edited on May 29, 2012 at 8:53 PM. Reason : but whatever, they're fantasy novels.. so I guess a period would have a fantastic name]

idk, it seems fine to me. It probably has as much to do with the moon goddess or some crap being the fertility god. that would make it as sensible as any other term (blooming flower?) considering they probably don't have a medical/biological understanding of it. Is it really anymore cumbersome to say than anything it's called today (anything it's called today in slang terms)?

I hope Tyrion isn't healing in some bed for the entirety of the finale.

of course the best part about pdrankin is somebody says "dont watch it if you dont want to know" then he immediately says what happens. pretty douchey.

Stannis's bravery was commendable but I was still pulling for the Lannisters. I badly wanted to see Tyrion silence the people hating on his battle plan.
