^^lol. I was in first year college. There is nothing "free" about that. You take the same entry level courses that everyone else takes. However, it just doesn't peg you down to a specific major. It can put you behind by a class or two, but nothing that can't be made up with a summer session, which athletes take all the damn time. They make me laugh.

They also aren't addressing the crux of the issue. The academic fraud at UNC didn't stem from players taking EASY classes. They were taking no-show, fraudulent classes. Yeah it's no secret that many athletes take easier classes than the average student, but the point is they are taking actual classes and doing actual work.

This actually is the key difference.

I'm sure everyone here who went to college had easy classes, I'm sure there were athletes in those classes as well.

The concept of "student athletes" in major sports is pretty laughable. There's no doubt that many of these guys have no place in a university to begin with and need significant help and steering to stay eligible. Many, many of these guys have no intention of getting an education and are there only to play football/basketball whether they go pro or not.

The opportunity is there for them, but many have no intention of seizing that opportunity.

The Gregg Doyell article makes a great point though, the FSU punishment was, if I recall correctly for one class and they had to vacate wins. This was 50+ classes over the course of a decade. I'm not sure even NCAA darling UNC is going to be able to wriggle out of this.

Thank you ncWOLFsu for stating the real issue. We may have joke classes, tutors, and extensive study guides, but our (and the vast majority of other colleges') athletes at least have to show up, write their own papers, and take tests.
