I know the players and the fans care about who wins and whatnot, but it doesn't matter to me. France lost but they still totally dominated.

france may have dominated regular time and extra time but they lost because their three best players weren't available for PKs and because barthez is a fucking joke
therefore, as much as i hate to say it, italy won on their own merits 7/10/2006 2:49:58 AM |

I don't know if France "dominated." They were definitely the better team throughout the game but their goal was a sketchy PK and Italy had a really close offsides call on a 2nd goal. 7/10/2006 8:49:04 AM |

PK was warranted. the offsides was warranted.
France would've won if Henry hadn't "cramped up" and Zidane hadn't been crazy.

Actually Italy played a defensive game much like they did the entire World Cup. They basically let the Frenchies run themselves out, and relyed on their backs and Buffon. 7/10/2006 9:50:56 AM |

I agree both were warranted... but both could've gone either way in a different game and the fact that France "dominated" wouldn't have been as obvious to some people. Even if Zidane doesn't get thrown out, Trezeguet still probably takes a PK.. and there's still the chance he hits the post again. 7/10/2006 11:06:19 AM |
vinylbandit All American 48079 Posts user info edit post |
Frankly, I was surprised that Trezeguet got in at all. He hasn't played regularly in two years, and he had only been in one game of the seven up to that point. Granted, Saha was banned and you'd be hard pressed to but Govou into a game like that, but I'd rather see Wiltord go in up front and Dhorasoo on the right. 7/10/2006 11:10:20 AM |

Zidane falls in the same breath as Pele, Maradonna, Ronaldo. He is indeed the finest of all the players in our generation. Even though the act was uncalled for, there was more than what meets "our" eyes:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zidane
"His agent, Alain Migliaccio has stated that Zidane said a "very serious" comment by Matterazzi provoked the attack.[7] Newspapers said that some have suggested that Matterazzi might have called Zidane a "dirty terrorist", [8] an accusation which Matterazzi has firmly denied.[9] Other sources claim Materazzi used racist and offensive language in reference to Zidane's ethnic and religious background,[10] or that made a reference to Zidane's close relative.[11] Zidane refused to elaborate on what exactly was said to provoke the attack. He was the fourth person to have been sent off in a World Cup final and the first to be sent off during extra time.
On July 10, 2006, Zidane was awarded the Golden Ball for the best player in the 2006 World Cup. The winner was selected by a poll of journalists covering the tournament; Zidane polled 2012 points, ahead of Fabio Cannavaro, who polled 1977 points. Most votes were cast during half-time of the final match; voting closed that night at midnight."
At the end, Zidane gets the "last laugh." He wins the Golden Ball for the best FIFA World Cup player of 2006. Italians have never produced a player to Zidane's caliber. 7/10/2006 6:38:27 PM |

^ dude, give me a break. Baggio on his best wasn't up to Zidane's worse? If you have to look at stats and titles to determine how good a player was, you obviously don't know what you're talking about.
and even if you do look at his stats, they are nothing to be embarrassed about anyways. 7/10/2006 10:24:08 PM |

um yeah I know what I am talking about. I didn't say he was horrible did I? Baggio had amazing skill and was a great player but not near what Zidane has/had. 7/10/2006 10:31:01 PM |

Lafta: Do you remember Baggio blowing the 1994 World Cup Final "final" penalty kick against Brazil? Last time I recall Zidane knocked his penalty kick in a World Cup Final.
He had only 1 FIFA player of the year award. How many did Zidane?...Lets see...3 like Ronaldo. Only 2 that has ever won the award 3 times. Paolo Rossi did not even win one FIFA player of the year award. Try harder!
Zidane rules!

Update on the Zidane Incident:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zidane
"His agent, Alain Migliaccio has claimed that a "very serious" comment by Materazzi provoked the attack.[7] Reportedly, the deaf forensic lip-reader Jessica Rees was employed to analyze the video sequences with the help of an Italian translator. According to these reports, Materazzi spoke in Italian - a language understood by Zidane due to his time spent with Juventus F.C. - and first told him: "Hold on, wait, that one's not for a nigger like you." As the players walked forward, Materazzi allegedly said: "We all know you are the son of a terrorist whore." Then, just before the headbutt, he was seen saying: "So just fuck off." [8] [9] According to Brazilian TV Rede Globo, a lip-reader claimed that Materazzi twice called Zidane's sister a prostitute.[10]"
This further shows that Materazzi, whom earlier had a red card in the World Cup, is as evil and corrupt as the club football that goes in Italy. I don't know why these Italian supporters still insist otherwise. Dumbf*cks. 7/10/2006 10:49:39 PM |

and yet France still doesn't have the World Cup. Zidane lost his cool for somebody who is supposed to be so legendary, and he got caught, he thought he would get away with it, and I believe Zidane played for one of those Italian Clubs that are so dirty, but I guess a Froggie wouldn't do anything dirty. 7/10/2006 11:03:52 PM |
