I don't see how they will have much time to devote to the King's Landing arc in the finale. They still have to wrap up the Winterfell arc, Jon Snow's arc, and Dany's arc among some other smaller side plots that they will need to touch on like Arya and Robb. That is a ton to get through in 70 minutes while giving each scene the time it deserves. I hope they don't fuck them up to fit into a TV episode.

this must be your first fantasy series...since many follow a medieval theme, they're going to refer to certain things by their more original terms/names (which, as noted earlier, were most likely derived from mythological/religious sources)

my point is that it's not odd at all for a medieval-themed story to refer to things by their medieval names

finally watched the episode last night as I was out sunday night and missed it. gotta say Tyrion was absolutely fantastic. he reminded me of William Wallace in Braveheart with his speech and the heart of it. basically telling the soldiers to fight for themselves and their city and to fuck the king. loved it! i really hope that slice in his face isn't life threatening, was hard to tell since he was in shock and seemed to start blacking out.

i think Sansa will end up going with the hound; there is nothing in KL to keep her there and it's a perfect opportunity to escape the clutches of the Lannisters, esp Cersei and her dirty tricks.

Also, the actor's combination of anger, resignation, and the subtlest touch of total fear when The Hound deserted the battle was played absolutely perfectly. Despite that there are a few bad apples, this is probably the most well-acted show on television, fantasy or otherwise.

Agreed. I definitely agree there are a few of the actors/actresses that are sub-par but given the circumstances like the cast being so large, the show gets a pass from me for these few bad apples because the overwhelming majority is acted and portrayed as good as I could hope for.

It's easy to nitpick any show and there is a lot of stuff that people can find to complain about (myself included there) or cause some people to grimace but the fact of the matter is that, imo, they are doing a fantastic job given the budget they have, the scope of the show, and the scrutiny the show is under compared to others. I know everything that's going to happen and I'm still glued to the TV every Sunday night in a way that I haven't been since the start of Mad Men or the first season of Dexter probably.

Who do ya'll think is doing a sub-par acting job in the show? Off the top of my head, I don't think Dany's acting is that great, but that's the only one that really stands out. Tyrion's girlfriend/whore is kind of annoying as well. But I also haven't read the books, so I don't know if everyone is accurately portraying their characters.

I think the acting as a whole is great. The amount of characters who are subpar is very small and, a lot of it probably has to do with the writing or directing for those characters more than the actors (hard to draw the line).

Cersei really bugs me at times (mainly early on) but it has improved. And, in this past episode where GRRM wrote it, her character was drastically better. Might not be a coincidence considering her dialogue was much better in this episode and he does great with dialogue. Brienne is a little ham-fisted in the show, but I think part of that just goes along with the character - the portrayal is actually very accurate but the in-the-flesh version of the character is a little cheesier than the book version.

Shae really bugs me. Everything with her is so flat. Xaro Xhoan Daxos is disappointing and Dany this season has been very flat and stale as well. And as much as Littlefinger is a great character and Aidan Gillen is a superb actor...something isn't meshing between the two in this show.

Once again, it's hard to say where to draw the line between the writing, directing, and acting but in general (including the kids which is rare) the acting has exceeded my expectations so I'm only providing examples because you asked

Yeah, agree with CalledToArms on the few who don't quite hit the high marks that the rest of the cast do.

Off the top of my head, Stephen Dillane, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey (who hasn't been great at times but was fantastic this past Sunday) whoever plays The Hound, and whoever plays Bronn were all really great from an acting standpoint in the most recent episode. Other than Dinklage, I think Dillane might be the best actor on the show, or at least the best at portraying his/her character. He's damn near perfect as Stannis. I loved the scene two episodes ago with him and Davos where he names Davos his potential hand and talks about the animals they ate when defending Storm's End during Robert's Rebellion.

The hound is a tormented soul. He loves to kill because he is filled with hatred and fear after the burning disfigured his face. When the hound says that him and Bronn are the same, he is right in that they both have blood-lust, but for wildly different reasons. Bronn does it for the money, the Hound does it to fill the void within.

I literally watched every episode of this series up to the coming finale in one week, and while I'm excitedly waiting for the next episode, it hurts to know I'll have to wait a whole fucking year for the next season.
