What's up with those fuckers at marvel dragging out the release of Age of Apocalypse tpbs? Spreading the release of a decade old story over two years is retarded. 6/6/2006 1:50:49 PM |

It gets worse. My understanding is that Marvel plans to release a TPB of The New Age of Apocalypse mini that came out before they let volume 4 of the original hit shelves.
Still, I don't much mind waiting. I waited 10 years to even start reading this one, after all. 6/6/2006 2:37:06 PM |

or... and i know this is a radical idea... you could choose to read whatever entertains you, as opposed to what someone else considers a "better" comic book
i'll read some old Richie Rich comics if they're gonna entertain me enough...

I read the Amazing Spider-Man Civil War story this morning. No action. All talk. And strangely one of the best issues of the book ever written. I no longer have a problem with Spider-Man being on Iron Man's side of things.
Probably a boring read if you don't care about Spider-Man, though. 6/8/2006 9:46:01 AM |

I had a feeling he would switch sides at some point, but this issue kinda solidifies him in the Iron Man camp in a totally believable way. JMS can fuck up some things, but when he's on he's gotta be considered one of the best in the biz. 6/8/2006 3:09:47 PM |

i thought there was supposed to be some sort of costume variation eventually like original spidey is with iron man, but then the new spidey still goes out and does his own thing...
at least thats what i gathered from all the promos 6/8/2006 4:11:02 PM |

The new costume is just there as a tragic result of the Spider-Man: The Other - Evolve or Die storyline and to further tie Spidey to Stark. 6/8/2006 4:55:50 PM |

Alright, I just picked up a few of the Spider-books you guys are referring to and yes, it does seem like a believable way for Spidey to side with Iron Man. I just felt it was too much "you have your fingers on my pursestrings" kind of loyalty more than anything. On top of that Iron Man seemed quite manipulative. That doesnt mean I don't like the characters still and dont think its a good read. I just was hoping Spidey would be on Cap's side. 6/8/2006 6:25:01 PM |

id like to see him up and switch sides in the middle because iron man is being a douche since tony insunates that he would rat people out if it came to it 6/8/2006 10:53:14 PM |

^No doubt. Pete's only doing what other people want him to do here. I really hope this is leading up to Spidey giving Iron Man a heavy thrashing. I can't wait for next month's ASM.
Also: I'm sure if Iron Man has any sense, he'll have some way to disarm or lock Spidey's suit remotely, in case he does decide to turn. Spidey's kind of dumb to trust him so blindly.

^ Of course he does. Everyone knows/should know how many safeguards Stark has in that suit.
My bet, Iron Man gets killed during Civil War. I also hope they take out some/all of the FF... that is, unless, they give Invisible Woman her "Stripper Invisible Woman" costume then they can just leave her. 6/9/2006 2:39:14 AM |

Dude, she's ink on a page. Not a real girl.
If Spidey does wise up, it ain't gonna happen until this arc is coming to a close. I'm thinking last panel of issue 5 or maybe even 6 of the main story arc. 6/9/2006 10:16:06 AM |

i'm currently reading 1602. i'm about halfway through it.
i'm digging it for the most part. Some of the characters seem a little 1-dimensional but with all they're trying to do, it's sort of expected. It's a better story than i expected, as at first i thought it was nothing more than a novelty act.
i havent heard good things about the sequel to it, but i'll prolly check it out anyhow. 6/11/2006 12:54:45 AM |

Books not getting enough love currently:
Tag - Fun little horror book from indie publisher BOOM!, but pricey at 3.99 a pop. Black Gas - Warren Ellis + Zombies = Awesome Marvel Team-Up - Super fun book if you're looking for a break from the ultra-serious Infinite Civil War Crisis themed books.
That is all. 6/13/2006 11:00:19 AM |

The only thing you list worth getting in that last entry is Civil War.
Maybe Ms. Marvel, too, but the awful Brood stories from the 90's really soured me on a great creation. 6/13/2006 2:42:19 PM |

Is Ex Machina really that good? I borrowed the first trade from a buddy of mine and just couldn't get into it. Does it pick up or am I just kind of programmed to not get it? 6/13/2006 2:50:33 PM |
FroshKiller All American 51911 Posts user info edit post |
I was about to say, "It does pick up," but I don't think that's quite right. It's one of those books that does everything right but still just won't appeal to some people. I'm like that with Invincible: I recognize what the book is trying to do, and I appreciate how it's trying to do it, but it just doesn't click for me. Everyone else seems to like it, though.
I'd check out the second trade, it might grab you more than the first. By the second trade, you're used to the characters and actually have a feel for them rather than being caught up in all that in media res shit. 6/13/2006 2:59:54 PM |

That was me with Ex Machina to the word. Also, I adore Invincible. Kirkman is one brilliant move away from being my new favorite writer(hence my plug for Marvel Team-Up, which I'm afraid is going to get the axe really soon).
