This is the same moronic thinking that network execs and bowl organizers use. The NFL comparison is irrelevant since most NFL teams dont have marching bands. There are also plenty of college bands that are good (Big Ten schools in particular), and if their football team makes it to a big BCS bowl, they deserve to perform in it.

Actually, the ACC had 8 teams in bowls compared to the 6 the SEC had, which was behind the Big XII, the Big Ten, and the same as C-USA. You may have also forgotten that Virginia went to the Music City Bowl because the SEC didnt have enough teams to be bowl eligible. ^ Hmm, only 3 of those 8 ACC teams played in bowl games where the teams get more than $1 million (Orange, Gator, Peach). The SEC had the Sugar, Capital One, Outback, Cotton, Peach, and Independence where all teams received more than $1 million, so the SEC had two less bowl teams but still made more money from their bowl games than the ACC.
One reason the ACC needs to downplay "look at all the teams in bowl games we have" and be more like "look at all the teams in good bowl games we have." If you want to say money is the engine that drives college football (which it is), then the SEC's #5 is worth as much as the ACC's #2 in the bowl system.
An interesting comparison:
ACC
Orange - $14 million Peach - $2.35 million Gator - $1.6 million Champs Sports - $862,500 Music City - $780,000 Emerald - $750,000 Meineke - $750,000 MPC - $750,000
Total from 8 teams: $21.8425 million = $1.82 million per team
SEC
Sugar - $14 million Capital One - $5.312 million Outback - $2.85 million Cotton - $2.5 million Peach - $2.35 million Independence - $1.2 million
