Cops sometimes screw up though:
http://cbs4.com/topstories/local_story_033170755.html

Quote :
"In the I-team’s undercover investigation, there was one incident in which our tester went in to file a complaint. After several times asking for a form, being told "you're not leaving without a form," he was asked to leave and actually walked off the property, to the point where the officer reached for his gun, put his hand on his gun and said, "Take a step closer, and see what happens.".

Miami Chief Timoney was surprised at that response. ”I hope it wasn't my police officer. That's very serious. I'd treat it very serious.”
In the end, Timoney says cops intimidating citizens alone is bad enough. What's worse is cops denying citiizens the very forms on which they need to complain about such behavior. Citizen complaint forms that create a paper trail, so that complaints can't possibly be ignored.
"

There's a video there of the undercover investigation.

I love when I'm called an oppressor, because I have the time and energy to oppress people.

what with my school and job and having a life, oppression is the main focal point in my life

this whole racial thing is a load of crap. I don't judge people by their skin, I judge them by their stupidity.

If you're acting like a dumbass, you're a dumbass. plain and simple.

well he is ignoring that EVERYONE has some racial/gender biases. you know some racist thought has gone through your head at least once when you see a "bad example of a race." i mean if someone is playing the stereotype you cant help but think it sometimes.

that doesnt make you a bad person, though it really shouldnt happen. what do we expect with the way we DO stereotype things though. shrug, im happy as long as ppl dont act on this shit 99.99% of the time.

^I disagree. The human brain does use categories (stereotypes) in order to store information, but that doesn't mean we're all racist.

Are all of us prejudiced? Yes. Are all of us racists? No.

im just saying that you're gonna think about it. does that make you a racist...no, and even if you are im plenty happy with you keeping it to yourself and not acting on it.

in order to use deadly force some requirements must be meet,

"A citizen is only justified in using deadly force against another IF AND ONLY IF:

1. the citizen actually believes deadly force is necessary to prevent an imminent threat of death, great bodily harm, or sexual assault, and

2. the facts and circumstances prompting that belief would cause a person of ordinary firmness to believe deadly force is necessary to prevent an imminent threat of death, great bodily harm, or sexual assault, and

3. the citizen using deadly force was no the instigator or aggressor who voluntarily provoked, entered, or continued the conflict leading to deadly force, and

4. force used was not excessive - greater than reasonably needed to over come the threat posed by a hostile aggressor."

you can also use deadly force on behalf of someone if they have the right to use deadly force.

deadly force is used as soon as the weapon is brandished.

u can use deadly force as someone is trying to enter your house but once they get in you must go back to the initial 4 rules, this is to protect people such as Alzheimer’s or drunks that just happen into the wrong house and pose no threat.

I did not say the exact same thing you did.

cyrion, I did not say the exact same thing you said. Your thinking on this matter is very simple and very basic. As a result, I would not expect you to see the difference between what I said and what you said. I'm not saying you're a simple, basic thinker, but in this case, you are limited.

And, oh yeah, this is pure bullshit:

Just agree that there will always be a certain level of stereotyping good or bad with every different type of anything, not just people.

alright bridget, please to facillitate my limited-learning abilities. cuz i still dont see your point.

i said we all have race/gender biases because of the stereotyping we do internally. add to that, we shove this crap down peoples throats every day and they acknowledge it, conciously or otherwise.

my assertion was that these come to play during our daily lives whether we actually beleive them (or act on them) or not.

so:
1) what about my statements is "limited"
2) what makes you any more credible
3) what makes the quoted part bullshit

sounds like you are arguing fucking semantics with me, which is dumb at best.

Prejudism? Come on, cyrion, get the fuck out of this thread. That's exactly what I mean when I say you're fucking limited--you don't even know the lingo. But you are starting to get my point:

PREJUDICE AND RACISM ARE LEAGUES APART!!!

You're full of shit. They are not "leagues apart". Racism is a form of prejudice.

Here's an example of prejudice:

BridgetSPK:
Quote :
"When can we say that "Islam is a violent religion"? How much bullshit has to go down before we can maybe consider the idea that Islam was founded in violence and still carries that with it today?

I'm not going to come out and say it because I don't feel comfortable sharing my uneducated perspective in this case.

It's really starting to look bad though. Especially to folks like me who really don't know much about Islam.

I understand the stuff about how a lot of the violence is done by extremists, but what if there are more extremists than "regular" worshippers?
"

change one word and it's racism:

People choose their religion about as much as they choose their nationality. Which is to say, they are born into it more often than not.

And besides, the point is not that religious prejudices are exacly the same as racism. The point is that racism is just a form of prejudice like any other.

Racism is a form of prejudice, but prejudice is not necessarily racism. Prejudice is often caused by ignorance, but when it's caused by malice, then it's racism.

im glad someone else agrees with me, cuz it boggles my mind. she acts like im riding her nutz when she's the one who has historically had to explain her wild ass assertions.

all i ask is that my opinions not be misconstrued which it seems like you did. where did i say everyone was racist? how is what i said different than saying ppl are prejudiced?

Quote :
"well he is ignoring that EVERYONE has some racial/gender biases"

people are prejudiced in one way or another. ppl have stereotypes. be it from internal processes, an upbringing you are/arent working out of, etc it happens. ppl cannot help but have biases at times.

Quote :
"you know some racist thought has gone through your head at least once when you see a "bad example of a race." i mean if someone is playing the stereotype you cant help but think it sometimes."

i challenge anyone to realisitcally say they havent seen some stereotypical happening going on and not been like...man this really is the personification of that hatred.

its like when you are at the movies and some huge group of black ppl comes in and starts talking as loud as they possibly can to the screen. i chuckle to myself and think of all the threads (hateful or otherwise) posted on here. do i think that this is a characterisitic of black ppl? no, but it sure makes me think about it. im sure the racists got their confirmation bias quota that day.

Quote :
"that doesnt make you a bad person, though it really shouldnt happen. what do we expect with the way we DO stereotype things though."

perhaps we shouldnt jam racist stereotypes down ppls throats or spread misinformation but it does happen

Quote :
"shrug, im happy as long as ppl dont act on this shit 99.99% of the time."

as long as ppl dont truely believe these things or (if they do and are racist) act on them.

so where am i confused and LIMITED. someone other htan bridget plz explain it to me because i dont want to ride her vaginal flaps. ill gladly and painfully agree with a point if it actually makes some sense or has any type of logical arguemnt other than (you are wrong i am right) attached to it.

I think the article makes good points about their being double standards for how blacks and whites of how blacks are able to get a day to get a black history books. But on the other hand, not many blacks ho contributed greatly to our society do not get regconize in the history books, perhaps because history classes are given very little time to cover so much history. I don't think a good segment of the black population shares this view that the black community feels that the white community owes us something for slavery. I certainly don't believe the white community owes us anything because this generation of black people have not endure constant discrimination by ridiculous laws for our opportunities are as wide as the Universe itself. I do think the history of given credit to scientists is very very very Eurocentric and should be changed immediately. Discoveries and contributions made in the natural sciences and philosophies are barely mentioned non-Greek and non-European cultures .

Some of the discoveries made by Galileo and Newton were in fact found found within other cultures such as Newton's Theory on Light years ago in Indian communities. A lot of the Greeks were educated in Ancient egypt. Some might even deduce that Some of of the European scientists made have even plagarized some of their work from other cultures. But I am not pointing any fingers. I just want the history books to give proper regconize to all cultures who contributed something to physics, geology, biology and so on. Science and philosophy is shared by every worldwide culture.
