i just mailed in a money order for a ticket i got in Gaffney SC heading back to Atlanta from the 1st round NCAA games in Raleigh. Guy clocked me at 80 in a 65 but after bullshitting with him about UNC basketball (I became a huge fan when he said he liked them) and the military (he was ex-Navy and I had my academy alumni frame on) he dropped it to 9 over and only charged me 75 bucks

that's the first time I've been pulled since I was 16 - nice long stretch

how do expired registration tickets work?

do you bring your renewed registration in and they drop the ticket? do you have to pay court costs? can you come in early with the renewed one and get it dropped? i'm just trying to avoid paying court costs, if possible.

I got pulled for expired registration and inspection (she was nice and didn't get me for license too).

I just went to the DA on my court date and TOLD him I had taken care of the registration and stuff and he just wrote it off and let me go. Dude didn't even ask to see it. I'm sure he doesn't care on a court date when hundreds of people have to come through.

Take documentation with you though just to be safe. I had mine, he just never even asked for it, barely looked at me, just scribble some shit on the ticket and said have a nice day.

I don't know if anyone has recommended Russel Dement, but he was amazing in my case. I was bagged for going 42 in a 25 school zone during the school zone hours. I was 17 at the time, driving a red mustang, had a 20 year veteran city cop - the odds weren't exactly high at all. But Dement got me my prayer for judgement in a year. Now it was 250 I want to say and that included the court costs which was amazing. Oh and also a kid was hit in Cary the week before in a school zone, so nothing was working in my favor. But he was really nice, brilliant and got me off of it. And not long after I turn 21, my 3 years will be up.

Also for those who don't think a lawyer is worth it - it matters on the situation. My situation, I'm lucky to not be in jail really just because. I was told right off the bat, if I didn't do a lawyer, I was screwed, so glad I did. That's a huge increase on insurance and points on your license - neither of which are good. So yes, use Russel Dement, he rules.

$250 out the door is the industry standard

and getting a PJC isn't rocket surgery. i thought you were gonna say he got you a 9-over or some sort of non-moving violation--THEN I would be impressed.

With a school zone ticket it is, as well as having kids getting hit by cars in them at the same time. It is one of those tickets that isn't as easy as the standard ones. 9 over in a school zone is still an offense from what I remember, the only hope I had was the pjc as no judge in their right mind would throw that ticket out.

Ok, no one seems to know much about improper equipment. Can someone clarify that if I get a ticket dropped to improper equipment, I know its no insurance or license points, but will it stay on my record? This was NOT in Wake County, and the county allows IE charges.

I 'beleieve' the law was changed last year so that all improper equipment convictions would be on your drivers license. It will not affect your insurance rate. However, with it being on your record, you'll be hard pressed to get another one anytime soon.

I got a speeding ticket going to the beach 2 years ago for 16 over. I went to court wanting it reduced to 9 over. In fact, when I approached the D.A., thats what I had requested (had drivers record in hand). he said "you're driving record is great. How about improper equipment?" Obviously a no brainer. Kinda odd though. I was out in a shithole county. I had actually dressed very well to go into court. Everyone else there was dressed pretty bad with t-shirts/wife beaters. I think I was maybe one or two of all the speeding tickets that got improper equipment. So, I think you should come to the court and show some respect, and it might get you a little farther.

I had a ticket almost 3 years ago that was reduced to 5 over and I got points. October will be 3 years, actually. I went to court for myself for that one, and dressed nicely and talked sweet and all that. I'm definitely getting a lawyer for this one. The one I talked to so far said "We can get improper equipment. No points on your license or insurance, its a non-moving violation." But I was just kinda unclear about whether it would be on my record? Will my first ticket not be gone in October now? I was doing 19 over, in case y'all are wondering.

^^ Thanks!

Ok, so I guess I shouldn't be worrying about that then. As long as my insurance won't go up, the records will go away eventually.

beth, Im not saying there are not some circumstances where this is not the case, but in the vast majority of cases, your insurance will NOT go up if you get (1) 9 or less speeding ticket conviction within 3 years. Its possible that if you are getting some special nonstandard premium reduction for a perfect record, that a 9 over speeding ticket may cause you to lose that, but it shouldnt be a significant increase. I've played the speeding ticket game for a while, so I know the basic tricks.

Gotta speeding ticket this morning in Alamance County in a school zone. I realize I'm going to need to get a lawyer, but I haven't used my PJC yet. I do have one previous speeding ticket I got in Wake County about 2.5 years ago, which was reduced to 9 over in court since it was my first ticket. Am I going to be able to get away with using my PJC?

Look up the one in bertie county that specialized in all the rapes, murders, robberies, and DWI's. That is the guy to call. You never wanna go with the "traffic ticket specialist"

see if you can get a lawyer to continue it until 3 years goes by so it won't effect your insurance. (he would just have to continue it until after your insurance renews.)

Anyone know of any good Lawyers near Dillon, SC? My brother got busted in a work zone 60 in a 45. I advised him not to mail in the fine and to hire someone.

^Yup. If he won't, ask for a continuance to get an attorney. 99% of the time, they ask you if you want to reduce it to 9 over and not contest it.

most every ticket i've gotten has been in morrisville
by the same cop

I used Crouch (manning and crouch), he's super awesome.

apparently they have school zones at 9:20 in the morning. so me going 39 in a 35 (25) is unacceptable and reckless endangerment.

also, apparently you cannot start your car when coming out of harris teeter without putting your seatbelt on first, or you'll get a ticket for driving without a seatbelt (even though I still had my ebrake on).

I know cops do what they have to, but they don't have to act like such pricks with their hand on their freakin gun. DONT THINK I DIDNT SEE THAT, OFFICER. I'M A 24YROLD SHORT WHITE GIRL WHO IS CRYING I DONT THINK YOU NEED TO REACH FOR YOUR GUN.

Were you still in the parking lot when you got the ticket??? Cuz you dont need a seatbelt when in a PVA.

what a cocksucker.

I know its the LAW; but you'd think cops use some common sense. Sometimes if i'm in a hurry i will not remember to put my seatbelt on until i stop for my first stop sign or stop light both are which are within 1000 ft of my house. Other times if i'm driving a real short distance like from Food Lion to Los Casadores i find it silly to strap up.

I can not believe cops have such little to do that they are on the constant look out for "Non SeatBelters" to pull over. My only theory is they just want an excuse to pull someone for the potential for a bigger bust; or they bust a nut that they can bell Susey who forgot to put on her seat belt the one mile she drove from Gorman Crossing to Lake PArk.

I think a lot of speed violations are dumb but seatbelts take the needless enforcements to a whole new level. Unless they are pulling someone for doing something else; you think they'd let this slide.
We all know the seatbelt rules is just about making revenue for the community just as much as it is about the city really giving a fuck about people being safe. While going 9 over in the school zone does create an increase "potential" for an accident; riding without a seatbelt hurts no one but the themselves. Yet cops wonder why normal everyday people don't like/trust cops when they are slapped with a $50 fine.

Quote :

Although i always put it on before moving otherwise my new cars starts making an annoying beap.
I'd estimate 90% of the time i turn my car on before putting my seatbelt on. OH KNOWZ COME GIVE ME A TICKET OFFICE HARDASS; MY CAR HAS THE EBRAKE ENGAGE AND SHIFTER IN NEUTRAL I'M SUCH A HAZARD TO MYSELF AND MOST IMPORTANTLY BREAKING THE LAW!!!!

well as I said you dont need to wear a seatbelt in a PVA just like you dont need a license to drive on one either.

there is too much to read in this thread so im just gonna ask my question:

I just got a ticket for 57 in a 45. I honestly didn't know the speed limit (out in the country in nash county) and told the officer that. anyway, im finding conflicting info on insurance points. is it 1 or 2? will that increase my premium? the ticket says "condition: rain, rain on windshield". does that mean/change anything?

also, what exactly is involved in talking to the asst DA or whatever? do I make an appt ahead of time to talk to him/her? how do I ask for leniency? i've had 2 speeding tickets in the past when I was a teenager but they were dropped by using a lawyer. so this should look like the first ever, right?

grrrrr

whenever i get a speeding ticket now a days, I just hire a lawyer... they are cheap, and can get rid of the ticket in most cases for you for not much more than the cost of going to the courthouse and getting it reduced yourself. it's worth it for me just to not have to deal with it.

^ that's slightly on the inexpensive side, but in the ballpark. I usually figure on $250 for everything. $300 wouldn't be out of the question (I'm talking about routine speeding tickets, and including court costs and fines, if applicable)

so would it be worth it? i've also seen conflicting info on how much your insurance could increase (15-40%). i guess i'll call tomorrow and ask. by asking will i be "tipping them off" and letting them know info that i can't take back. i mean, like can they increase my rates by me telling them about it even if i get it dropped/reduced?

as far as increases, this is what the depart of insurance says: (look at pages 6 and 7)

http://www.ncdoi.com/consumer/consumer_publications/automobile%20and%20vehicle/consumer%20guide%20to%20automobile%20insurance.pdf

The tricky part is that eventhough 1 point would give you a 25% increase, most insurance companies are giving you a discounted price off of the applicable price. That increase is figured from your applicable rate. So the increase in what you actual pay could be well in excess of 25%.

Just go to James Crouch office with $300 and the ticket. They will do a waiver of appearance for you to sign and you never have to worry about it again. If you call you never get a hold of him.

I just had to pay $500 to a different lawyer for a ticket in Franklin County. Apparently they charge a $100 failure to appear fee on top of court costs and $300 attorney fees that shit was ridiculous.

Well worth it though when you consider all of my other tickets are more than three years old and I am pretty much on a clean slate with the insurance company again. - Supposedly it will get dropped to improper equipment.
