dumb
Fells sucks at point, and Degand will have been in the system for over a year by the beginning of next season, and Johnson will have been in it for a year when he can play.3/29/2007 10:15:04 AM |

I disagree. We will start an actual point guard (most likely Degand) from day one.
When Sidney was asked after one game what was the biggest lesson he has learned this season, he said "Don't have just one point guard." or something to that effect.

If there's one thing Degand can do well, it's motor up the court. At the Red-White game this year he reminded me of a chris paul or singletary with regards to how he could move up the floor. I'm not saying he would be anywhere near as good as them in any other area but I think we will still have some decent options for PG next year. 3/29/2007 10:24:06 AM |

Sidney already has talked about Degand as our point guard for next season during his final television show. Anyone thinking Degand won't be our starting PG at the beginning of the season is either ignorant or just plain dumb. 3/29/2007 10:35:57 AM |

Yeah, Fells will most definitely not start at PG next year at any time. Sorry.

He's a decent shooter, but what he'll do for us is move it up the court and distribute. I doubt he'll look to be a scorer, at least this year.

Quote : | "In what was supposed to be the featured matchup of the game, neither O.J. Mayo nor Eric Gordon could get much going.
Mayo started just 1-of-7 from the field, Gordon only 2-of-6. Mayo forced the issue, heaving up shots he had no business attempting. After several ill-advised missed 3-pointers late in the game, he even received a smattering of boos when he touched the ball.
Mayo had a chance to win the game on the East's final possession, but his 3-pointer bounced off the rim. Mayo finished 4-of-17 with 12 points, Gordon 5-of-13 with 13 points. Each player seemed as if he wanted to prove that he was better than the other; each was off his game because of it. The desire was there, but neither has the maturity to harness his intensity.
Gordon's West team held on for a 114-112 victory.
• The best matchup instead became Patrick Patterson and Michael Beasley. After Beasley taunted Patterson after Tuesday's scrimmage, Patterson stepped his game up and the two exchanged baskets and a physical beating. In the second half, Beasley got a break from the intensity and took advantage of softer defense from Donte Greene for several easy layups. Beasley finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds and earned MVP honors.
• Kevin Love can flat out pass the ball. He had a nice inside-out game with Kyle Singler early on and then hit him with a pretty length-of-the-floor baseball pass. He did the same thing after a made basket later in the half, hittingGordon and then on the next position outletted to Taylor King for an easy two. Love's lethal outlets after made and missed baskets will make UCLA seem that more suffocating.
• The East definitely started as the more unselfish team in the first half. The West was content to just bomb 3s and take the first available shot while the East worked the ball a little more. Eventually, the West became a little more patient, and it showed when it took an 11-point lead into halftime.
• Jai Lucas took advantage of being the only true point guard when Unit B was out on the floor. While Nick Calathes did apply tenacious defense, he got crossed up with Nolan Smith a few times about who was supposed to guard him. Calathes also made at least four highlight-reel no-look passes, one of which was a pretty alley-oop to Gani Lawal and another one behind his head on the break that Mayo finished with a dunk.
• Future Syracuse combo Johnny Flynn and Donte Greene hooked up for a long alley-oop in the first half that you could tell the two had talked about doing before the game. Flynn had six assists. Lawal recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
• In the girls' game, the East won 105-76 with Jasmine Thomas (Duke) earning MVP honors.
