regarding moto q vs. blackberry
i had a q for two years and broke the phone twice (cracked screen ftl), but loved it. i changed tons of things in the registry and really liked it.

that said, i just swapped it for an 8330 curve on the verizon network and IT KILLS THE Q. i absolutely love this phone.

regarding aim
ramble im is the best client i've seen although there are some ways to make aim work with blackberry messenger, ramble is pretty nice though.

Agreed. I <3 the 8830, esp compared to the Q.

I never had much luck w/ the Ramble AIM client though >_<

Now I've got filters running on my Thunderbird app, but this doesn't really help my BB situation... so then I thought about it and decided to make a rule that after all the other rules/filters were applied, Thunderbird automatically forwarded a copy to a newly created vzbb address.... only problem is that this means my computer physically needs to be on the Thunderbird APP running..... So....that doesn't really solve anything... How do I get around this?"

Who is providing your email services? You should have a way to set up Server-Side filters, which will handle that issue. If your provider has a webmail client like SquirrelMail or something similar, there's usually an option in there to set them up

oh....well it's one of my dad's companies...the last time I had them 'help' me fix something I almost lost all my mail......but if that's the only way...and I THINK they use squirrel mail...I mean they used to, I'll have to see if they still do... thanks!

why is it that when the internet browsing isn't connecting

if i send a picture text to myself, it's like draino and opens the flood gates of missed emails and data transmission for browsing works again?

So I just got a curve. What should I download toit as far as browser or programs, etc. Something to open email attachments like excel and word. What about for playing videos on sites or flash and javascript?

the opera browser is cool, but i only use that for pages that the BB browser doesn't display properly....it's more of a hassle to me.

^^ it can already open word/excel files, but doesnt support flash.

you cant initiate or edit any of the word/excel files, you can only view them. that is of course unless you buy the 3rd party apps

I'm trying to use a blackberry Pearl until i get another one.. this one was originally on SunCom and I've had it unlocked

I've called and added the blackberry data plan and everything else they said I need and changed the TCP settings to every possible setting I can find... I always get the "data connection refused" on the screen.

Any ideas on help?? I used to be on cingular and was moved to at&t with the merger..not sure if that matters but there ya g

Anybody know if you can move a user from a BES to a different handheld on the same BES? Basically User 1 dropped his phone in the sink, took out his SIM card and put it in User 2's Blackberry. User 1 and User 2 were both on BES Server, but User 2 doesn't need their phone. Any way to transfer User 1's data and email to User 2's handheld without physically plugging them in? If they were in the same city I could just plug them into the BES but any ideas how to do this with both users off-site?

Could I get User 1 to plug User 2's handheld into User 1's computer with Redirector software? Doesn't it ask something like "Handheld device (PIN#PIN#) is currently setup for redirection, would you like to use new handheld" or something? I think I remember inadvertently doing this at one point in the midst of synching some data on my computer with someone else's BB

Enterprise Activation should work, at least it does with Exchange. Just right click on the user in BlackBerry Manager and 'Set the Activation Password' then go into the Options on the phone, go to Advanced Options, then go to Enterprise Activation. Enter the email address and Activation Password. Be sure to delete User 2 from the BES beforehand to ensure there aren't duplicate PINs and to save on CALS. Trust me, I do this all the time (phone swapping). I also walk people through this over the phone all the time. It's easy.

The way these phones activate on Exchange:
The phone initiates Enterprise Activation --> An email is sent to RIM from the phone --> An activation email is sent to Exchange server from RIM (srpxxxx@rim.blackberry.net) with an encrypted message body --> BES recognizes this and assigns the pin to the phone and adds the user / phone info into the BES database. Finally, the Service Books are sent and voila!

Hope this helps.

oh yeah, might help to do a "Wipe Handheld" on the phone before doing the Enterprise Activation. forgot to mention that.

RIM should introduce a menu based voice mail solution for all blackberry's that converts voice to text so you do not have to check them. That would be a huge innovation and someone is going to have it besides apple, whoever does it first and across the widest range of handsets will make bank.

Right now it looks like all of their handsets are introducing more of the same and their competitive edge is going to erode if they do not do something innovative.

I would probably pay another $20 a month to be able to read my voice mails instead of check them.

It would be so nice to be able to read the text of the message and then click on the number the caller left to return the call without even pulling a pen out to write it down. Plus it would allow me to get to the important sales related ones faster and the other 80% of the messages could wait.

They do have it. it's called PhoneTag (used to be called SimulScribe). I've got it on my BB. It's decent. They do a pretty good job at differentiating phone numbers vs dates vs random numbers.

A software update for the Sprint BB Pearl was released a few days ago and is available at http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

Most significant changes:

* Fixes the problem with loss of data connectivity in some fringe 1xEV-DO areas.
* Fixes the minor display issue with the Sprint Music Store icon in some themes.
* Adds a "ROAM Only" option to the Mobile Network Settings.

This update also supposedly helps alleviate some of the memory leak issues.

so the person can't hear you if you are talking on the phone OR if you are speaking through the speakerphone mode? if you just got it you might wanna ask the wolfwebber you got it from why they're selling you a phone with a broken mic

try calling a land line you have access to so you yourself can just mess around with it and see if anything works...but if it is the speaker, its gonna have to get shipped off to RIM

so im looking at potentially getting a blackberry or other smartphone type phone. Maybe the same thing for the wife as well. What does TWW recommend, preferably the phone ~$100 or less, and how much should i expect to pay for the plan for email and web browser? It's the two of us and we would prefer Verizon as both our families are "IN"

So I've recently come across a used 8703e through a family member who upgraded, on the verizon network. I use verizon as well and want to use it, but not the data package until a few months down the road when I start my job. Has anyone successfully gotten around that mandatory data plan for verizon BB users? I've heard the world edition BBs have the optional pay as you go plan and people just dont use the plan, but this isn't one of them.

this is very frustrating....

blackberryforum, crackberry, etc just told me to do a battery pull/hard reboot but that didnt do anything

wolfwebber won't return my texts

hopefully when he does, he'll offer a solution or at least give me my money back for selling me a blackberry that he claimed worked great, but won't let me talk to the person on the other end

you could try taking it to a store for your cell provider (Alltel, Verizon, etc) and tell them whats wrong and at least see what they say...I doubt they'd charge you for just asking them to take a look at it...I do know that Nextel can't work on them and has to send them back to RIM, but I guess its possible that another provider might be authorized to work on Blackberries?
