They're not "harsher." They just try to use the whole scale. If bioshock got a 9, I can't wait to see what they give Halo3

a 9 is a slap in the face for this game, and yes i don't like it. at all.

^^ well yeah, though ive read some significantly harsher reviews from them in the past.

^ how much of the game have you played to assert that? i think a 9 is quite good and his points seemed relevant to the bits i played in the demo.

the average score on gamerankings was like 9.7 or something, and he gives it a 9. the demo suggest to me at least 9.5, i think his points are moot and stupid.

thank god they are using a .5 scale now, it could have got an 8.8 from jeff, and thats scary to think.

So just played through the PC demo and I was pleasantly surprised by my PC's performance.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 @2.6GHZ
2GB RAM
7800GTX 256MB

It runs at 1920x1200 with all the detail settings set to high with nary a hitch. It's not liquid smooth by any stretch, but it's not sluggish either. The biggest thing that effected performance was turning on "Reverb". If you don't have a dedicated EAX sound card, don't bother with it, it's not worth the performance hit. Turn on a little texture filtering instead, it really helps.

nope. just saying that if you are into something it appears most fanatical to the rest of us. the constant cod, controller vs keyboard arguments being #1. the refusal of anything lower than a 95 for this game being number 2.

Gonna be awesome, pretty psyched. Only semi-letdown is no skills like System Shock, but I guess the plasmids make up for it.

The demo was righteously awesome.

I got it for the 360 because I didn't know how well my PC would run it at high settings(It was a kick ass PC a year and a half ago, still pretty good but not top of the line), but it runs very well.

I ordered it from Toys r us to take advantage of their madden special, and if the time it has taken them to get Madden to me is any indication, I won't have it before next week.

RELEASE DAY BITCHES.

Just got my call from gamestop....picking it up on my lunch break. So, I suppose i'll just have to stare at the big daddy figurine all day at work tempting me.

oh, and damn...look at this guy? One of the many, many attempts to pull this costume off out there. But he actually does a respectable job.

There's growing list of revered games underrated by Gamespot

Metal Gear Solid 1 and 3, Soul Calibur 2, Zelda: Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess off the top of my head.

That having being said, saying "they lost a subscriber" is retarded unless you were actually using their pay service, which is really retarded.

Anyone else have any reports as to how well it runs on the PC? I don't see how I overlooked this game up until I saw a random article on IGN about it over the weekend, now I've been reading up on it.

i was a subscriber more as less as giving a 'donation' , which i know that they don't need it, on the the premise of a job well done. this is not a job well done.

not trying to hijack the thread, but you were "donating" to a major corporate website, that didn't need your money? ok....

(btw, I'm aware this is somewhat ironic for me to say given that I'm a premie )

THEY DONT NEED IT. Dude, Gamespot makes mad loot hand over fist. I've been to their offices many times. It's an awesome, huge spacious setup....with a game room that would make you crap yourself. Pinball machines, arcade machines, big ass TV with all consoles, the works.

hopefully they'll put out a patch over live and on PC soon. It doesn't break the game by any means, shit - i wouldnt have even noticed it, but i admit, would be nice to have it fixed.

I dunno, apparently the "excuse" is that the game was developed with a widescreen FOV in mind, and you just see more than you should in 4:3. Of course, that makes no sense at all. If that were truly the case, they would just chop off the sides for the 4:3 version. IMO, lazy developers.

Don't see why it's a big deal, does owning a widescreen mean you are always entitled to a larger picture?

^in general, at least in movies, they're shot in a widescreen format and then the "pan and scan" 4:3 "normal tv" ratio basically takes a piece of the widescreen...so basically yes widescreen should show more than 4:3

Unless something is developed with 4:3 in mind, in which case they would cut out the top and bottom to fit to a 16:10 screen.

It's not the end of the world.

i'm not complaining, but in general stuff is made for a wider format...has been for sometime now...even tv shows 10 years ago before most people had any type of letterbox screens

The Silent Hill games blow Resident Evil, etc out of the water if you're just talking about "scare" factor, imo

i never even saw the movie if thats what you're talking about, but even the Playstation 1 games were on some turn off teh lights, turn up the sound and get chills

I think some of it was the "music" which often consisted of what sounded like screams of horror combined with banging a wrench on a boiler, mixed with radio static and the howls of demons
