I see it like a McDonald's coffee cup 10 years ago. Sure, it had no warning saying that the coffee is hot and you should be careful, but if you start chugging it or spill it all over yourself it's more likely than not your own fault if you get hurt. That being said, Food Lion needs to clarify their signs if they don't want people parking there overnight because they live in a college town and people are gonna do whatever they can to get a break.
Hur should get his money back and possibly some money for the time his car was missing because it is Food Lion's fault that people were parking there. I know I've had friends park in the area before (the other shopping center, not food lions) and have had no problems. I would be pissed, but I do remember telling people that parked there to be careful and I wasn't gonna pay for their towing fees if they got towned. 10/9/2007 4:52:05 PM |

If this happened all over Raleigh, I'd be more accepting of the practice.
But the fact that it directly targets young folks is what makes it fucked up.
They claim that we young folks walk around like we're entitled to the world...well, maybe we need to boost that sense of entitlement and start fighting this shit. Demand they respect us. 10/9/2007 6:31:01 PM |

Even if the towing company was in the wrong for towing the cars, you and your friends are still morons for thinking it was perfectly all right to park there.
And everyone that keeps bringing up the McDonald's coffee suit are falling victim to rhetoric rather than anything close to a real understanding of that particular lawsuit. 10/9/2007 7:02:25 PM |

They were morons because common sense says a business's private parking lot isn't meant to be used for public parking. You shouldn't need a sign to tell you that. 10/9/2007 7:39:16 PM |

There are towing signs all over that parking lot. You all have to pay.
Believe me, I have checked out that parking lot, as with everywhere I park. There are a minimum of 4 signs at the front of the lot with the towing information, and that towing is enforced. They are properly placed, marked, and sized.
after reading more: Most lots say no overnight parking, though I don't know about food lion. Parking at the outer perimeter, at the back of the lot is completely safe. They used to allow parking, till it was abused. Just like everything, if you abuse it, it will be taken away. That is the people's fault who parked there. A company can change its practices at any time, and they are not responsible if you break the new, and heavily posted rules.

i sleep at night, does that mean anyone should be welcome to park in my driveway during that time? i understand the argument of a private business open to the public should provide parking for its customers, but why should that extend to after hours?
i'm not understanding where this sense of entitlement is coming from. maybe when some of you buy some property of your own you'll understand.
i hate ace towing as much as anyone else and i hate that it even sounds like i'm defending them, but it's downright retarded to expect that you and your friends should be provided with free parking ON SOMEONE ELSES PROPERTY.
i will say that i don't think it's some night manager at food lion's decision to have cars towed, unless he was under orders from the owners (maybe he was). truth be known, it's probably another company that owns/maintains the property but i don't know that to be a fact. 10/9/2007 8:11:57 PM |

you are an absolute moron. have you read nothing else in this thread. Food Lion broke the law; illegally towed cars; and should have to pay for everyone's towing fee by violating predatory towing laws.
Not only did they not post the number and tow company name- Against the law in Raleigh
They also did not display proper towing regulations for that lot- Also against the law
If i go to campus and park in a SV parking space that state parking enforcement 7am-12pm they can not ticket me for parking at 2 am by saying that I do not have a NCSU parking permit or am a non-NCSU student/faculty member. The ticket maids have to follow the regulations listed on the sign.

once again the rules for a private residence even an apartment complex absolutely do not apply to a commercial business. Last time I checked a private residence was not required to have exit signs either.

FOR THE WIN................
Unless the tow company number is in super fine font that did not show up in my 4.1 MegaPixel camera and the sign has UV magical paint that at night changes Wolfline Rider to "NO PARKING AFter HOURS" then food lion broke the law, was in the wrong, and should have to reimburse every penny for not following proper towing laws. 10/9/2007 10:02:58 PM |

In their defense, when I read the sign it seems to me that the intent is 'do not inhibit customer parking during business hours'. If it was 2am and I saw that sign, I wouldn't hesitate to park there.
I mean, if they don't want you to park there afterr business hours... why not... i dunno... tell you or post a damn sign to that effect? 10/10/2007 2:27:24 PM |

at least everyone will be 100% sure what the parking deal at FoodLion is. Therefore no one will have a false sense of security that their car is fine since they are not "Wolfline Riders" only to come back to find their car is towed. 10/11/2007 10:47:02 AM |

Agreed completly. Remember though the issue was over towing that took place when Food Lion was closed in which cars were towed contrary to the regulations listed on the warning sign.

hmmm....
when i park on campus and see a park sign that says "SV" for Service Vehicle parking "7am 12pm" i assume that i can park there from 12-7am even if i do not have any other type of parking pass.
Do not be a fucking moron. If they did not want non-customers to park then the sign should say "non-customers."10/11/2007 11:58:42 AM |

or you could take from the sign that since it didn't give hours it applies 24 hours a day, see it works both ways
you didn't answer my question though, what time did your party start? 10/11/2007 12:22:28 PM |

since the wolfline at the greek way stop next to foodlion does not run 24 hours or even weekends and the fact that no one was a wolfline rider then the sign does not apply.
If anything it offers reassurance for people wanting to park since it specifically makes a distinction for wolfline riders. Without the sign people would not know otherwise.

btw do any of you all have a source of the ordinance requiring the name and number of the towing company. WRAL action 5 needs some help with the investigation.
Quote : | "Last time I checked WRAL was media not legal advice." |
even if the victims do not get a dime of the money back; WRAL through bad publicity is capable of giving Food Lion such bad press the manager will regret being a cocksucker from the negative business impact. Hopefully he will get demoted back to bag boy.
