NC State and Utah are a lot alike.. but if that's even real, its just WRAL.. it'd be better if it was FSN or ESPN 4/21/2008 5:39:22 PM |

So are the Rams allowed to go ahead and sign a player or make offers or whatever? or do they have to wait til draft day 4/22/2008 2:43:33 PM |

I don't know. Although you imagine the NFL is bummed that some of their pre-draft hoopla gets squandered cause the #1 team has already signed its player.

Anybody else sick and fucking tired of hearing about McFadden, Dorsey, and Matt Ryan. Thats all they ever talk about when talking about the draft its a joke. ESPN sucks. 4/25/2008 4:21:34 PM |

now a lot of them are saying Matt Ryan to the chiefs
are they retarded? they have a veteran, fairly good player in Croyle, would be STUPID IMO to take Ryan with that pick
great move for the Chiefs tho with the trade, stupid for the Vikings in a way...but hey...gotta do what you gotta do. 4/25/2008 4:26:07 PM |

I'll be honest, I still don't see what everyone else is seeing in Matt Ryan. I can't see spending a first round pick on a qb this year, regardless of the team's qb situation. Thats like saying I want to eat fish today & when you go to the grocery store, all the fish is overpriced and past its sell by date, but you get some of the fish anyway cause you already set your mind on getting some. If you can get a qb who is just as good in the 2nd round as one you'd get in the first, why not wait til the 2nd?
Maybe its just me though, as I didn't see all the to-do about Russell last year either. I see Brohm being the best qb in this draft, with Ainge being a good value pick that can potentially be had in the 4th. Anyone remember the 99 qb class, where Couch was a can't miss, along with Akili Smith & Cade Mcnown? I see Matt Ryan following career paths similar to theirs, especially if asked to start games his rookie year. 4/25/2008 4:57:38 PM |

Yeh, same thing that has been said about every 1st round qb. But when watching BC play last year, he didn't have me coming away saying that's a top 3 NFL pick who a team should build their franchise around.
Better at throwing NFL routes & putting them where they need to be than who? The other qb's int his draft? Brohm is unquestionably the most accurate of the qb's in this draft (even admittedly so by Ryan buffs).
Maybe I put too much stock into collegiate performance, but When I'm taking a franchise qb, I don't think I want to invest in a qb who ranked 6th in his conference in comp%, 5th in qb rating, 6th in yds/att, and threw 19 picks (barely a 1.5:1 td:int ratio). Granted, he didn't have a solid receiving corps, or the best running game, but that can be said about a couple dozen ncaa qbs that put up avg numbers. He did have the advantage of having one of, if not the best, o-lines in the acc, not to mention the fact that the acc was quite possibly the weakest of the bcs conferences last year.
Again, Couch put up better numbers, against better competition, with comparable talent surrounding him at kentucky, with a stronger arm and the same build. The only qb to throw it more than Ryan was Texas Tech's Graham Harrell, and even in their system Harrell only threw it 60 more times, for 1200 more yds and 125 more completions (next closest qb to Ryan in attempts had 85 less). There are just too many things I see that would stop me from thinking of taking Ryan in the 1st round.
Yes, I know stats don't show all, but they should be at least a decent indicator of future success, and what his stats indicate to me is that he will struggle against NFL defenses (average arm strength, streaky, has issues w/ the deep ball at times, not good at throwing on the run, and most bothersome of all to me, little upside or potential to count on). He did do what all qbs are supposed to do his sr year, win, and is solid locker room pressence & has good leadership abilities, but I couldn't spend a 1st rounder on a qb b/c he's a good leader. 4/25/2008 5:25:13 PM |
