I dunno about the people you've seen on facebook, but I for one can't wait to be at CF drunk Saturday for the game when Hanna comes through.

Sweet, more rainfall!

It's wonderful that it won't be that strong, yet it's coming through here.

If we can go another decade without droughts and with a reasonably active hurricane season, it would be awesome. That's the only reason I'll be cheering on a hurricane in the future.

i'm all for hurricanes...they're fun

except that, now that i own my own house, i have to start paying attention to trees that can fall, house damage, etc.

Hanna is looking pretty torn apart this morning and has still yet to start moving in any sort of westerly direction from the looks of it. I remember back in the day playing SC during I believe it was Dennis when the game fininshed 3-0 IIRC. Our group of people actually walked to and from CF from Bragaw and I dont think I have ever been so wet in my life. That was also before they put the seats in the endzone so it was mostly a couple hours of sliding down the giant mudhill.

Too bad she hasn't had more favorable conditions to develop. Her track harkens me back to Hugo.

The next 24 hours will be key in determining what this storm will do.

according to WRAL, hurricane floyd came ashore as a category 1.

the ratings are based on wind and storm surge, not rainfall amounts. sooo...you can still have a weak hurricane based on the saffir-simpson scale, but it can still cause a lot of damage just from flooding.

Looking spread out and very disorganized. Several of the models have it making landfall closer to North Myrtle/Wrightsville Beach now.

To be honest if it doenst get moving west within the next 12 hours I would say then chances are between getting eaten up by shear and Ike running into it I wouldnt be surprised if it dissipated or got absorbed.

Looks like Hanna is right on track to hit Raleigh in the midst of Raleigh Wide Open. Even more irritating because if they reschedule it for next weekend, I'll be out of town.

I'm usually all for some Hurricane fun, but I'm with quagmire02 on this one. It's been a rough season for the trees in my yard too, and the rather large leaning Oak is looking more ominous by the day.

Cumulative rain has more to do with how fast these things are moving than storm strength. This one is projected to be fast moving through NC. If it moves quickly stronger winds may be felt inland, but it won't just sit there and pour like Floyd.

[Edited on September 3, 2008 at 5:12 PM. Reason : if it goes on that track its gotta be above a 1 i'd think...unless its just torn to shit...at least i'd think with the gulf stream etc

i bought some stuff. i had a gift card to best buy and had been planning to get a red cross emergency radio anyway, so i got it last night. i bought a couple more jugs of water and some canned goods to replace the ones i had raided from the hurricane supply shelf in my laundry room. i bought some extra pet food too. i'm going to refill some prescriptions tomorrow.

i don't care if i look silly stocking up for something that's not really forecasted to be that severe, but i'd rather be safe than sorry.

plus i live in rocky mount and lived here during floyd...had to help rescue my grandparents and great-grandma in the middle of the hurricane while their house was washing away in front of us. they lived with us on an island in rocky mount for over a week.

not cool

it's pretty funny how little we actually know what the hell the storms are going to do.
from the looks of these forecast maps, I could be drawing them.

If (CurrentPosition(Storm) > Bahamas) {
Draw.CurvedLine(up East Coast, but not making landfall);
}
Else If (CurrentPosition(Storm) < Bahamas && CurrentPosition(Storm) > Cuba) {
Draw.CurvedLine(sloping up coast of FL, making landfall in SC, travelling up East Coast as a tropical depression);
}
Else If (CurrentPosition(Storm) < Cuba) {
Draw.CurvedLine(into Gulf of Mexico, making landfall in Western FL or LA);
}
Else {
Draw.SpinningDot(wherever the storm is, claim it's stalled);
}

I live 10 minutes from the beach in Charleston, SC. Normally I love the excitement of a hurricane, but....this does not excite me.

Damnit, all utilities personnel are required to be in active standby this weekend. Means I'm gonna be sober and unpaid. If SHTF, I stand to make 1G this weekend.

Fuck you hurricane wishers, fuck you.

There is a chance i might be on lockdown crew at my job if Wilmington goes to voluntary evacuation. Instead of a hurricane party i'll be sitting my ass at work in case the power goes out

Well, I'm still considering camping at the beach this weekend, depending on how strong she ends up being.

Between me, Nerdchick, and some other folks I know down there, I could round up a small party

Now whether that's a get-together you'd even want to be near is another story

Could be worse.
You could be part of the NC Forest Service's incident management team.
Then your IMT could be prepositioned in kinston before the hurricane made landfall.
Then you could be hours away form your house when a damn hurricane comes through.
Then two things could happen...
You sit on your ass for days doing nothing productive and costing the state lots of money while the thing pounds the shit out of your property and loved ones.
Or, the hurricane does do damage and you get stuck handing out water in the hot sun and mosquitos to stupid ungrateful people who didn't have the sense to prepare for disasters...while you should be at home taking care of your own shit.

Wouldn't that suck?

Lets all head to Miami middle of next week, looks like they may be having some fine weather down there with Ike up to 135 mph winds now. It wont hold those as its gonna be hitting some less favorable areas coming up, but with how strong it is now it should hold its own as storms like this can almost form their own environment.

Ike's a small storm, will not be able to hold up to shear like Hanna has (she is huge). Small storms can strengthen fast but can just as quickly fall apart. I think there is disagreement on the hostile conditions so NHC is playing it safe...would not be suprised to see it weaken to a Cat 1 or 2 but then after it passes through restrengthen. It will be interesting to see if Miami gets hit, looks right now to get very close but then basically start drifting N right off shore.

looks like shear might be affecting the western part of the hurricane

The shear doing work on Hanna was from Gustav. Hannah is a quicker moving storm and I think once she hits land, she will make a mad dash up North... leaving little affect on Ike. I think Ike will remain a major hurricane for a while.

I pay more attention to the trends of these tracks.... they have continuously been pushing the storm farther and farther to the east... i feel we are gonna get off with little effect, some rain, and this thing will just bank off the outer banks... i will be reposting this saturday after I am right lol

they have no clue what's going on with this storm. one station says up to 10" of rain and tropical storm force winds, another says 1-4" of rain and 10-15mph wind.

I have a feeling Hanna is gonna end up just clipping the coast as it rides NE, then Ike is gonna follow behind, scare Florida before turning north and then curving back out to sea parallel to the coast. Josephine will probably get picked up by something out in the mid atlantic and fall apart as well. Thats just how these things always seem to go so I am going with the odds.

It looks like the worst of Hanna will avoid Raleigh, and the rain may even be over by game time.

On the other hand, Ike looks like it could potentially make landfall at Hanna's original destination as a major hurricane (yikes, Hugo was a Cat 4), if it doesn't completely turn out to sea.

Ike is so tight and compact, imagine how bad it would suck to be chillin on your boat and that thing rolls up on you. Its not like there is a lot of warning with this one, you would pretty much be in blue skies then within an hour maybe be in the damn eye wall of the thing.
