the lit department at UNCA was full of very intelligent hard drinking miscreants

I loved being among the best of them

in my Faulkner seminar one evening (after class) we drank a gallon of whiskey instead of eating dinner
I hope my grad program is as savvy

I only know two or three film major pot heads and I probably know >35 film majors.

granted I go to Miami which actually has a good Comm. Dept.

I'm a film major but the degree will be pretty worthless. It's all about the experience I'm getting and what I am actually learning. Getting a job in film is all about networking and such. (this is why UM makes comm majors double major.)

I'm surprised pottery didn't make the list. Yes, pottery is a real major.

I have 2 degrees and neither of them are on that list....WOOT!

if I had stuck with the Thomas Jefferson Scholars program there is a chance I would have had 3 but the third would have probably been Psychology so I would have still been safe!

you can get any degree you want and make plenty of money if you know the right people. My gf's dad had a geology degree from UNC but he was a football player and had crazy contacts. He now sells prosthetic orthopedic parts and tools for....

FYI:

Quote :
"The School of Public and International Affairs was inaugurated on July 1, 2006. To better serve the University, the State, and the world, it brings together the academic, professional, and practical activities of the departments of political science and public administration, the international studies graduate program, and the public safety leadership initiative. The School is housed within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at NC State University."

BTW:

Quote :
"The Master of International Studies is a 36 credit-hour, non-thesis, multidisciplinary program with diverse and talented teachers and students. The MIS has an excellent placement record, with 100 percent of its graduates placed within six months in government service, international business, non-profit administration, and higher education administration, among other fields, in organizations in the U.S. and abroad."

FYI:

Getting Into Med School Without Hard Sciences
July 29, 2010

Quote :
"For decades, the medical profession has debated whether pre-med courses and admission tests produce doctors who know their alkyl halides but lack the sense of mission and interpersonal skills to become well-rounded, caring, inquisitive healers.

That debate is being rekindled by a study published on Thursday in Academic Medicine, the journal of the Association of American Medical Colleges. Conducted by the Mount Sinai program's founder, Dr. Nathan Kase, and the medical school's dean for medical education, Dr. David Muller, the peer-reviewed study compared outcomes for 85 students in the Humanities and Medicine Program with those of 606 traditionally prepared classmates from the graduating classes of 2004 through 2009, and found that their academic performance in medical school was equivalent."

What is wrong with an English Lit degree? Some people want to be English teachers.

I have an English Lit degree, don't teach and made $74k last year and will make about the same +/- a few thousand depending on my bonus. However, most lit degrees are useless and most lit grads are broke.

Supposedly four years ago when I came into my program we had a 100% job placement rate. Me and two other buddies have graduated and have found nothing to do yet.

All this tells me is that either type of major has the ability to memorize a lot of information well. Aptitude/performance in medical school doesn't really prove anything.
