I actually agree with the Duke pressure defense being too inefficient.

Playing aggressive defense is a great thing to an extent. But if you overextend yourself you give up too many easy buckets. The marginal gain in turnovers is offset by the marginal loss in easy baskets at a certain point. Coach K doesn't seem to understand MR=MC theorems and that's hurt him the past few years as a head coach as his teams have consistently underachieved given their talent levels.

Aggression is great in poker until you start preflop raising K3 every hand from the button and people expect it.

The "defense" we are playing needs to be toned down two notches.


I talked to a former WNBA starter today who played professionally in Spain the past five years. She said Ricky Rubio is the shit. I like Spain to win it all still...

They haven't been that impressive, but I'm pretty pleased with the team from a cohesion standpoint. China was on fire from deep and we couldn't hit shit, yet we still have a pretty comfortable lead. If anyone has been mildly disappointing, it's Kobe. He's still the best player in the world IMO, but he was out of control a few times and missing easy shots at others. Lebron, on the other hand, has been stellar.

I thought D-Wade was going to be a liability on this team, but he's been on fire lately. Hope he can keep that up as defenses start to get tougher and collapse inside more. We also desperately need to get some perimeter shooting back--Redd isn't going to be enough to carry us all the way to the medal.

Overall, decent first showing, though. Never backed down...even with 40 seconds left, up 30 points, they were still pushing quickly and looking to score.
