While I know it maybe a tough task to get Favors out of Georgia, especially away from Tech, the Georgia media does seem to be showing some bias in their reporting and you know they have some stake in this. They get to cover a megastar freshman who will certainly dazzle everyone and be constantly mentioned during that year of college basketball. I think the people in Georgia feel threatened by NC State and Coach Lowe. We've already pulled in 4 players from the ATL area (JJ, Lorenzo, Richard, & Ryan), so we obviously have some connections there and Lowe has shown that he can pull some of the best players out of that area. Then you just look at some of the boards covering the local high school basketball and you see that many already have a disdain for Lowe b/c of the success he's having in Georgia. Check out these Atlanta Journal-Constitution articles. One is about Favors trip to NC State, one is about his upcoming trip to Memphis, and another is about his trip to Georgia Tech. The only one that doesn't have an area for fans to comment and give shoutouts to Favors is the NC State article. Also at the end of both the Memphis and State articles they say something along the lines of "it is rumored that Derrick is decidnig between Georgia and Georgia Tech" like basically there is no chance for these other schools even though they are receiving official visits.

Yeah, I mean he only landed quite a ACC rookie of the years, put a few players in the NFL, including several first round picks, etc.
Let's get off the Chuck Amato shit and back to BB recruiting this past weekend. 10/22/2008 3:38:35 PM |

Yeah I realize this is not the thread for this discussion, but even without really thinking I came up with all of these 4* or 5* recruits who Amato still could not really win with: Mario Williams, AJ Davis, DeMario Pressley, Marcus Stone, Andre Brown, Toney Baker, Richard Washington (i.e Dick Wash), Darrell Blackman, etc. Chuck definitely brought in some talented players.10/22/2008 4:57:36 PM |

^^Of all those recruits, I'd wager that Mario was the only one who actually lived up to his hype.
Blackman possibly, and Baker hasn't really been given a fair shot, but overall, not that impressive of a group. 10/22/2008 7:32:54 PM |

amato also recruited wilson, irving, cash, eugene, bowens, hill, dujuan moran etc
to say he didn't bring much talent to this team is plain stupid. obviously he neglected to get enough quality linemen, and he was unable to put a decent at best QB on the field, and he was a pretty shitty Xs and Os head coach...but that guy can land some talent...he just couldn't coach them once they got here ] 10/22/2008 7:48:55 PM |

guys, that talent is nowhere near the talent hewitt has done nothing w/ at GT.
that's mediocre to good acc football talent you're talking about. those are guys who couldn't play in the sec. not even close to the same class of failing w/ talent as hewitt.

plz show where i said the are 'elite'....i'd love to see it. also wtg in picking out the two star recruits out of that bunch. i don't give a shit about their stars/hype. i never said anything about how highly rated they were as recruits.

Football recruits can't be compared to basketball....
Stars and rankings are much more accurate in basketball.
Football has more "diamonds in the rough" like Manny and McCargo but has more duds like Richard and Bobby Washington. 10/23/2008 12:34:54 AM |

I don't know why people keep ragging Richard Washington's ranking. I'm not defending the guy, he was a dumbass, but as far as "stars" go he lived up to the hype. I think he was our leading receiver his junior year even being suspended for 2 games. 10/23/2008 2:53:06 PM |
Maverick1024 All American 4866 Posts user info edit post |
Washington was good when he was in there, but don't get carried away. When I think 5-star WR's, I think game-changers. Washington made a few plays and rarely dropped the ball, but he never took over games like K-Rob, Holt, even Cotchery. 10/23/2008 3:23:29 PM |
wolfAApack All American 9980 Posts user info edit post |
Saying he "wasn't a bust" while he was here isn't getting carried away. Also, DickWash was rated a 5 star CB, not WR. #57 overall in his class....not even a 5 star by todays rankings.
He played WITH J-Co for 2 years, and was still a big player in a secondary reciever role. Then his junior year he had Jay Davis throwing him the ball. Of course he wasn't a game changer. He played with one you listed and had a shit quarterback in the only other season he played.
That was my only point. I made it earlier with my comments on Brown and Baker. I'd take a team full of "busts" like brown and baker, because they themselves are great players, its just the supporting cast that kills their potential. (offensive line)
btw, Andre is having a good year.

^^I totally disagree about Andre and Toney, healthy, behind a decent o-line in the SEC.
If you think that, you're giving our offensive line way too much credit. For 4 years straight, our running backs have been hit behind the LOS way too often. This is the first year that our line has consistently been able to open holes for the most part. Andre is a guy who you get to the line of scrimmage w/out getting hit, he gets you at least 3 yards. Get him 3 yards past the LOS, he gets 8-10. Toney was the same way, they just don't have a line.
This is also the first team since 03 that has had a threat at QB, even still, teams are putting 8 men in the box.
I don't really know why I wasted my time typing that cause its a matter of opinion, but IMO Andre is a guy who will still be drafted should he stay healthy. 10/23/2008 7:28:46 PM |
