OK....serious twitter question here.... So there's this thing called http://stocktwits.com/ and basically what it does is when any user uses the $ sign this thing picks up the twit and posts it to its page.... my questions:

1) Is the $ function of twitter itself or of someone at stocktwits?
2) Let's say I wanted to have a feed that picked up any mention of the word 'purple' and post it to a page...is that possible?
