well that's disappointing, and all the guys on the BC board were talking like he was their best coach ever....
I was hoping he'd at least stay long enough for most of TOB's players to graduate out and have his true ability exposed
Jags reminded me of Chuck with his ego and showiness, they have a similar stark contrast to TOB's demeanor 1/5/2009 12:34:57 AM |

im listening to this on the Dan Patty Show ... pretty funny people think he is that good of a coach... bad move for the Jets if they hire this guy...bad move for Jags since BC seems to be pretty pissed. BC was spoiled by TOB staying there for a decade 1/5/2009 11:01:49 AM |

that is absolutely hilarious.
the best part is, judging from the BC's free scout.com board, they do NOT want logan as their head coach. 1/5/2009 11:52:37 AM |

Posted: Today 2:58 PM Some pieces of the puzzle What I know and can say:
* Gene D was and is very upset with recruiting. * He is very upset about the Vanderbilt loss. * Jags does not like recruiting. Jags has privately told some people he is not sure he really is a college coach. He just might not be cut out for it. This did not just happen in the past few days. * Gene and Jags have "discussed" the recruiting class for this year, long before the Jets issue. It would be fair to say Gene thought it was going poorly. * Jags would prefer to be in the pros. If he is fired and not hired - a big if - by the pros, he will go the college avenue only if he needs the job. * The Jets interview (insert your analogy here) put the situation over the top.
Head Coaching front:
* The three possibilities internally are Bick, Logan and Spaz. While I got some specific info on who is likely, it was not for sure so let's just wait it out.
The rift got out of control:
* This was never supposed to be public. If there was a chance at patching some things up in the past 72 hours, the publicity made it even less likely. At the end of this story, it may be for the best for all parties.
Other note:
* Some coaches have gotten some more money recently, Ryan Day being one.

You do realize that he won that Super Bowl over the Raiders, you know.. his old team the year before. So in most cases I would say your statement is correct. But since he did defeat his old team in the Super Bowl I would say that he still gets credit for his own Super Bowl win.1/16/2009 7:32:43 PM |

Mark Gottfried Fired as Alabama Head Basketball Coach http://www.myfoxal.com/myfox/pages/Sports/Detail?contentId=8311844&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=6.2.1
Alabama head basketball coach Mark Gottfried was fired Monday after a disappointing start to the 2008 basketball season.
In a report on wwwTideSports.com, the sports website for The Tuscaloosa News, Gottfried will be relieved of his duties this week and is not expected to coach any of the team's remaining games.
The University of Alabama had not made any official announcement.
Gottfried, who was hired in 1998 as Alabama's head coach, is 210-131 overall in his 11 seasons. He led the Crimson Tide to a 12-7 start (2-3 conference) for the current season.
He replaced David Hobbs as Alabama’s head coach in April 1998 and took Alabama to five consecutive NCAA tournaments beginning in 2002, including an Elite Eight appearance in 2004.

Watch Mike Davis end up at UGA and Cousins go there just so he can face off against Favors again. It's also closer to home than State.
Some people are already thinking that they can land Tubby Smith which is preposterous. Tubby is very happy at Minnesota. Why would he go back to the SEC and have to compete against Florida (and Donovan began to own Tubby), Tennessee (Pearl has turned them around), and his old school Kentucky in the SEC East? UGA, besides Damien Wilkins and their 1983 Final Four, has no tradition worth noting. They have shit facilities in Stegeman Coliseum too. And it's not like they are shit facilities that are historical either, like Williams Arena. I know they added a new practice facility, but it still doesn't compare to the facilities found at UT and UK. Tubby probably likes being at a school that doesn't have another big school in the state to compete with. At UM he can recruit the best of the state with no real threat to him. Yeah maybe Wisconsin or Marquette might come in and steal a recruit every now and then, but not that often. He's got the two best 2009 players in Minnesota already committed. I am a little surprised though that he didn't really go after Trent Lockett, who is going to Arizona State next year. 1/29/2009 6:00:05 PM |

oh i know, but i can't help but think of herb when talking about tubby. think about it.
tubby was a national title winning coach at one of the most decorated programs ever. herb was a sweet sixteen making coach at a modestly decorated program.
they both got run out, both went to schools where no one gives a fuck about basketball, and they're both doing well.
he's just a better herb sendek. although i agree, a much better herb sendek. 1/29/2009 6:40:41 PM |

Miami picks UNC's Lovett to run defense
MIAMI — North Carolina assistant John Lovett is Miami's choice for defensive coordinator and could sign a contract with the school by midweek, a Hurricanes athletic department official familiar with the hiring process said Monday.
The school is aiming to introduce Lovett on Wednesday.
Miami coach Randy Shannon indicated last week that he wanted to make a hire within two weeks of spring football season getting under way at the Coral Gables, Fla. campus. The Hurricanes start practice Feb. 24.
Lovett did not immediately return either an e-mail or phone call to his North Carolina office seeking comment.
If hired, Lovett would become Miami's third defensive coordinator in three years. Shannon fired Tim Walton after the 2007 season and replaced him with Bill Young, who left to join the staff at Oklahoma State.
So for three weeks, Shannon looked for a replacement, while also hiring new offensive coordinator Mark Whipple and flying around the country to close the 2009 recruiting season.
Shannon considered taking the job himself - he was Miami's defensive coordinator before becoming head coach - but always viewed himself as a last-ditch possibility.
"I want to find the right person," Shannon said.
He chose Lovett, who has worked with Whipple before. They were assistants at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. in the early 1980s.
Lovett has spent the last two years as a defensive assistant and special teams coach for the Tar Heels, and also has been defensive coordinator at Auburn, Clemson and Bowling Green. He's also worked at the college level at Brown, Maine, Cincinnati, UNLV and Mississippi, plus had a stint with the New York Jets in 1984.
Lovett is also a well-known recruiter, and has been credited by North Carolina coach Butch Davis in the past as someone with extensive knowledge of schools in the Southeast. 2/10/2009 11:02:49 AM |

so i was at work today in Alabama and some of my customers came in talking about how good Alabama basketball is gonna be after they hire Calapari. i said "excuse me?" they went on to say that it was a sure thing because "his people" are in contact with the AD at Alabama. with this i laughed and explained our courting of calapari. Their response was "Alabama has a much more attractive program, and that he'd be crazy not to take the job." 1. has anyone heard such rumors? 2. was i wrong for laughing at these guys? 3/4/2009 1:44:04 PM |
