Why are you living in a motel? If you need a place to rent let me know.

She'll learn.

Education is expensive, no matter how you get it.

I never racked up credit card debt, etc, but I was sort of bad about financing big toys (cars, motorcycles, etc). I maxed out a Roth IRA, but pretty much accounted for every remaining dollar as part of a monthly payment of some sort. A few years ago, I finally broke that cycle...now I put a ton of money away in savings/investments and pay cash for everything (I mean, I put everything on my card, but immediately pay it off, and never finance anything). I'm to the point now where the limiting factor is how much I'm willing to spend--not how much I have to spend. That's a liberating place to be.

I don't think I have girl logic, but basically for the past two years it's been this.

1) Be frugal pay off existing debt.
2) Cook existing meals at home and only go out once a week.
3) After 2 months get cabin fever jump on a plane to SF,NY, Europe
4) Come back and realise you have some random huge expense like a new car engine.
5) Go out for 2 weeks straight.

Yeah I know, that is exactly the cycle I'm in. I always have some unexpected $300 dollar expense to deal with every month.

I go out way too much too. No one said that living like a rock star was easy.

Its ok to "ha ha" about his sister. Not ok to "ha ha" if its your daughter.

Yup, I have seen many strange girl logic decisions. I try so hard to avoid it I annoy my boyfriend. Won't pay more than $20 for jeans, $3 for a pair of underwear, or $10 for a bra (will spend $15 or maybe $20 at Fredericks if I really like it). Then I spent $150 for my motorcycle overpants, but it was worth it.

Eh, you're still wasting money. You don't even need a bra.

Keep rationalizing, though.

Something I find amusing:

My sister is an extraordinarily giving person, and she learned this from my mom. She buys stuff for other people ALL the time and buys shoes for herself. She is on an average income and owns her own apartment in Charlotte. But she spends more than she makes pretty much EVERY month and has a part time job on top of her career job to make up for this.

My mom consistently praises me for always being completely on top of my money and being responsible.

well

A) I can figure out how much I make exactly every paycheck and know exactly how much I spend with a full and complete budget that actually includes an exorbitant amount of frivolous spending money for bars and toys
B) I will be making more than 2x's(almost 3x's) as much as my sister

So A) makes me better with money, B) makes me not have to care nearly as much.

I don't need a bra because showing up on campus like this would be a good idea, sure.

G.O.D, are you GIA-certified? I have been thinking about doing this because i'm not certain labwork is my true calling in life. are you actually working as a gemologist?

BlackSheep, I do need to rent a place... in Vermont. Something got boogered up with my visa and I can't go home until I get it fixed. I have found a place though... with some old people whose kids moved out. guess it will be kind of lame, but cheaper than everything else up here, and close to the border.

I bought myself flowers last night but I had to cut a bunch of them up for an experiment.

Okay, folks, I think it's time we all agree to never use the phrase "Mommy and Daddy" again. So many people say it, and they sound so jealous of whoever it is they're attempting to mock:

"She drives Daddy's BMW..."
"Mommy and Daddy got her a credit card..."
"Daddy pays her bills..."

It's so lame to say shit like this.

Plus, I sincerely doubt people still call their parents Mommy/Daddy. If they do, it's cause they're trashy, and they're more like to have dads in prison than in BMWs...

I say Ma and Dad, or Daddy. Am I BridgetSPK certified as trashy or do you have another classification for me?

It's not what you call your parents to your parents. It's what you call them to everybody else.

And I shouldn't have said trashy. It's not automatic trashiness. It is a good indicator though.

I mean, come on...I know I'm not the only one who's observed a relationship between girls who talk about their daddies and lower class attitudes and values.
