Anyone notice the editing in the opening Stark Expo scene.
It was one of the most poorly edited scenes I've ever noticed.
He'd be talking, they'd cut to a wide shot and his mouth wouldn't be moving. Or they'd cut from a medium close-up where you can see his arms are clearly to his sides or behind his back, then to a wide shot and his arms would be placed completely differently.
That was the only time I noticed it in the film, but it was a buzz kill considering it's your first look at Iron Man since the first film. 5/7/2010 5:29:43 PM |

OK, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but the armor with the triangle chestpiece is the Mark VI. The suitcase is Mark V. The one he is wearing for the first 2/3 of the movie is Mark IV. 5/7/2010 6:05:25 PM |

*sigh*
Nerd anger on:
Was at the midnight showing at North Hills, and the manager did a trivia thing for prizes before the show. He asked which suit was the one with the triangle on it, and I answered Mark VI. He said this was wrong, and he called on someone else who said that the answer was the Mark IV. I was like WTF, I've been reading about this for almost 6 months now. Today I went to Target and bought the Mark VI suit of the "Hall of Armor" toys which comes with the light up base and took it back to the theater. I politely introduced myself and explained that I felt like the answer last night was incorrect, so I showed the package to the manager who then claimed that the toy was wrong. Um... OK, so Marvel is gonna let Hasbro make millions of dollars of these toys and other merchandise and they're all labeled wrong? I then pulled out my phone and went to the Wikipedia page about it and showed him what it says about each of the suits in this movie and he claimed that it wasn't a credible source. So then I went to find production images and showed him the same image which is on page 1 of this thread and pointed out that the Mark IV in the background still has the circular chestpiece. He claimed that since he had read the answer in a Marvel encyclopedia that he was correct and I was wrong. Ugh. If there wasn't a prize involved in this (which was free movie passes), I'd be content to let him continue to be wrong, but noooooooooooooo. Now I just can't let it go. LOL. 5/7/2010 9:06:44 PM |

Hey, Axelay, that suit is the Mark IV in the movie's continuity. Tony escaped in the Mark I, he refined it into the Mark II, he fabricated the red and gold Mark III, and that brings us to the Mark IV with its triangular reactor. 5/8/2010 11:29:32 AM |
Axelay All American 6276 Posts user info edit post |
No, I really don't think so. Each suit is a new and separate construction, much like in the comics. Check out the official art book at Amazon. Someone has posted a video flip-through of it, and you can see that one of the sections (at 0:19 into the clip) is specifically about the Mark VI. I kinda want this book now.

I was out there at 10:00 last night. Lots of fucking chatterboxes.
Funny, though. This dude sitting behind me saw me fucking around on my phone before the show, and he said to his girl, "Oh, he's using Swype."
I turned around, just drunk as hell, and said, "Yeah, it's fucking cool, right?"
He said he didn't have it. He'd gotten the APK but couldn't install it. I said, "Give me your Droid." He handed it over, believe it or not, and I changed the necessary setting to allow software installation from unknown sources. Then I e-mailed him the APK.
He sent me a message back today thanking me. 5/8/2010 6:21:35 PM |

^^Haha, funny.
Seriously though, there were less seats than people trying to get in because a bunch of douchebags bought tickets to something else so they could get in after they stopped selling Iron Man tickets. I was there with my girlfriend, two chicks, and three of my guy friends. My guy friends ended up leaving because one of them was bitching about it being too crowded (how could someone from Greensboro not understand the concept of a crowded theater I don't know). We're sitting on the right next to this young black couple, who has saved the outside seat and the seat between me and my girlfriend, not because they had friends coming, but because the girl didn't want anyone to sit next to them in the sold out theater. Really, fuck that, fuck them. Someone finally called them out when they didn't "raise their hands" to signify empty seats.

frybaby and i really enjoyed it. some scenes were corny and predictable, but they could have done a lot worse. IM2 is another one of those "if you just watch it for entertainment, you'll love it" movies.
^^ speaking of that, the theater we went to did the whole "please move towards the center seats" announcements right as we walked in... as expected, i didn't see a single person make any motion towards doing so. i probably offended a few people when i called it out, it just annoys me when i walk into a crowded theatre and people protect their precious little personal bubbles like they'll get the aids from sitting within 3 feet of another human.

Movie was great. I believe T. Howard could have pulled it off no problem. I liked Cheadle's performance in it, but I am a Howard fan.
I agree that Whiplash was not used to his capacity, which was a little bothersome, but when he was on camera he demanded attention. I will be going to see again.

Got my winning passes today, thanks to the art book. The manager was very gracious, and he enjoyed seeing the designs. It's an absolutely fantastic book if you're interested in the concept art, models, props, and further design processes. There's a huge section on how the Mark V (that's suitcase armor, FYI) went through several designs before becoming what you see in the movie, and many photographs of the CGI models with different levels of damage.
Anybody notice in the credits that there's a guy listed as "10 Rings thug?" Where was this guy? Is he the one who gave Vanko the forged papers? 5/10/2010 9:58:14 PM |

Loved it!
as for Don Cheadle/Terrance Howard, it could have been either in that role and I would have been fine either way. The non-War Machine Rhodes didn't have very much screen time in the grand scheme of things so I didn't feel like Cheadle made that much of an impact.
that aside, i Loved it! Will see again. 5/10/2010 11:07:55 PM |

I believe the final battle has already been addressed in this thread.
The long and the short of it is Jon Favreau can't direct a proper boss battle.
In all honesty, the BB with Iron Monger was weak as well.
I'm wondering, at what point will someone say to Favreau, "OK, no. Iron Man can not battle a guy in a giant mechanized suit again." 5/11/2010 10:13:38 AM |

I agree about the final fight. I would have loved to seen him and Vanko in the flesh go at it for a while longer.
Didn't he know because he was talking to her while standing in that creek shortly before Vanko showed up? I guess he wouldn't know exactly where, but he knew she was still at the expo.... 5/11/2010 10:13:39 AM |

RawWulf All American 9126 Posts user info edit post |
Here's my thing, and I apologize if this is considered a spoiler. But c'mon, you know Whiplash is the villain, so you know they're going to battle at least once.
Anyway! The battle with Whiplash was more interesting on the racetrack than in the "final" scene. Granted Stark wasn't in a costume for much of the racetrack scene, but it goes along with my thought that the first half of the film was brilliant and organic while the second have was rushed and poorly constructed.
It was like someone from Marvel was standing over Favreau's shoulder yelling, "More Avengers references! Your little film is insignificant in the grand scheme of the Avengers! Avengers!" 5/11/2010 10:32:37 AM |
sprocket Veteran 476 Posts user info edit post |
Really enjoyable movie! Will probably buy it when it comes out!
My only gripes:
-There was only one CGI scene I thought was overly cheesy: the racetrack where Whiplash walks down the track w/ stuff blowing up everywhere and he is unaffected. A little too much
and
-Some douche sitting right behind me in Mission Valley was narrating what was about to happen (for example w/ Stark's discovery of his dad's secret he handed down) 5/11/2010 10:45:54 AM |
