and lest any Republicans start rejoicing with something like "fine, we'll be better off without the Religious Right - we can focus on what it means to be a True Conservative", you should probably think again considering that two sub-Republican parties will both be significantly smaller than the current Democrat party, and neither of them will have a chance at the national level. If anything, the "new Religious Right" party will be even bigger than the "Old Republican" party.

If it is nothing but a Palin party, I highly doubt this. I know many God fearing Bible thumping republicans( my parents and their church friends) who love to talk shit about Palin. It won't be as cut and dry as the religious ones leaving the republican party.

I think if anything it will be the true lunatic fringe of the party that might desert. No one likes palin.

I mean, Biden's got a record of plagiarism, for example, dating back to his college days--he ain't the sharpest tack in the box, either, you know?"

Biden's done some good stuff, been around for a long time, and he's got that whole horrible tragedy and rebuilding his life thing going for him. He speaks his mind but with his heart, and people generally like that even when you occasionally or often say stupid shit. It's the same way people like McCain because he's got the POW thing (and up until around 2002ish, he spoke his mind and people liked that).

I don't like Palin, and you may not like Palin, and your Republican parents may not like Palin, but apparently a lot of people Republicans (i.e. not just the lunatic fringe) still do....

"One more Palin update: The new national survey from PPP released yesterday was the first to track Sarah Palin's favorable rating since the surprise resignation announcement last weekend. As suspected, they show little or no change. Her overall rating on PPP's automated survey of registered voters is now 46% favorable, 45% unfavorable, which is actually a few points better than their last measurement (although the difference is not big enough to be statistically significant)."

http://www.pollster.com/blogs/palin_first_reactions.php

obviously all the people who view her "favorably" or "support" her would not be willing to walk off a cliff for her into a new movement, but there is certainly no indication that she is somehow unpopular or doens't have support

you know what's going to suck?

she's going to bone up on policy issues so she can talk about them on basic cocktail party level

and people will think she's a freak'n genius...

how do we stop this?

some of us are "obsessed" with Palin because we're afraid

she is worse than Bush by every measure yet we KNOW she has quailites that make her electable

it's frightening

^ I honestly don't think you have to be concerned about Sarah Palin winning in 2012. I think she's been too damaged--some self-inflicted and some due to rabid attacks from others--to be electable. And Palin's simply become too divisive as a political figure.

But, unless I'm mistaken, Palin's approval rating--despite all the shit that's gone down--is still higher than Beverly Perdue's. 'ELLO GOV'NAH!

yeah, well every state can't afford to give, what.... $3000 per person directly to it's citizens. It's amazing what $12 grand a year to a family of 4 will do for your approval ratings

yeah, until oil prices drop and your state can no longer afford the massive welfare "profit sharing" scheme, and you have a huge deficit, and your approval is falling..... so you pass the buck to the next unlucky schlub who has to make the hard decisions

There is only one way to prevent the disaster of which you speak. Palin's opponents must start raising funds to send me to Alaska in lavish style so that I can seduce and impregnate her. She may have survived her daughter getting knocked up, but there's no way she's going to bounce back from giving birth to the bastard son of an unemployed alcoholic who's half her age.

On the way in to work I heard a portion of her resignation speech from yesterday. I don't know if I have a bias that causes me to be overly critical, but it didn't sound as if she had many intelligent things to say. I didn't bother looking for a full transcript, but here's the one thing from her speech that stood out to me:

Quote :
"How about, in honor of the American soldier, you quit makin' things up?"

Referring to the media.

EDIT:

Hell, here's the clip http://www.wikio.com/video/1457855

A very forced setup to arrive at "the evil media" punchline.

McCain said the same thing during the campaign - in fact, I think he claimed she was one of the leading energy experts in the country. This myth presumably stems from the fact that 1) Alaska does, in fact, have a lot of oil, and 2) she helped push through legislation for a new pipeline.

haha, here it is
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/10/09/mccain-palin-pipeline/
Quote :
"Last night on Fox News, host Sean Hannity interviewed Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) and asked McCain what Palin’s role would be in his administration. McCain said Palin would be useful on energy issues — presumably because, as he has said before, “she knows more about energy than probably anyone else” in the U.S. As evidence, McCain claimed that Palin “was responsible for…a pipeline, the $40 billion pipeline bringing natural gas from Alaska down to the lower 48.”"

somehow i doubt Sarah Palin could even describe the basics of three-phase power distribution, much less what the power factor is used for.

god, need to find a transcript.....

here's the first minute from this cnn video
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/07/27/palin.departure/index.html#cnnSTCVideo

Quote :
"It is, as throughout all Alaska, that big, wild, good life, teeming along the road that is north to the future. That's what we get to see every day. Now what the rest of America gets to see, along with us, is in this last frontier there is hope and opportunity, and there is country pride. And it is our men and women in uniform, securing it.... And we are facing tough challenges in America, with some seeming to just be hell-bent, maybe, on tearing down our nation, perpetuating some pessimism, and... suggesting American apologetics [sic]. Suggesting perhaps that our best days were yesterdays [sic]. But as other people have asked, 'how can that pessimism be, when proof of our greatness and our pride, today, is that we produce the great, proud volunteers who sacrifice everything, for country'"

from page 2:

Quote :
"She could pick up the mantle for social conservatism for the late Paul Weyrich in Washington, reinvigorating the pro-life cause and defense of traditional values. She could advocate sane, grown up energy policies through these organizations, favoring increased production of traditional as well as alternative energy, including nuclear power, while opposing fruitcake ideas like cap- and-trade taxes, and runaway corporate welfare that would bring back Jimmy Carter's synfuels. She should also lead the nation's mothers to oppose mandating replacement of incandescent light bulbs with the new mercury poison gas bulbs."

Instead of the mercury poison gas bulbs, she has gone after the evil government death panels that would be created with Obama's health care reform.

Good job Palin! I never doubted that she would pick the perfect imaginary threat to rail against.

She made an 841 on her SAT. I made only slightly below that in middle school.

Where did you find that? I think we're learned our lesson about "official" documents posted on the Internet.

That said, a score of 800, for you ACT takers out there, is generally considered to be the "spell you name correctly" benchmark. For example, my score was about 400 points higher (out of a possible 1600), and I was disappointed with myself.

wait, is there some large contingent of the population of NC State who needs the SAT explained to them? generally it's the ACT that east coast/southerners aren't familiar with

that's like explaining to people how miles can be converted from kilometers as if we're on the metric system or something
