How does this game compare to Battlefield 2?

man i was sucking it up bad last night...but I really enjoyed the game. seedless and I won just about every game of Rush/Conquest.

I was totally unable to fly the helicopter after trying 4 times...do I need to lower the sensitivity to fly it? I felt like it was rolling/pitching way to steep when I slightly moved the stick.

I have my sensitivity almost all the way up (maybe 2 notches from the max) and it took me a while to get used to flying the chopper but it's definitely possible to do once you get used to it. Golovko is really good at flying the chopper and I think his is at max.

Just got this game on a lot of recommendations from friends. Still haven't played it because I've been too busy with Mass Effect 2. Hope to play it a lot in the next few weeks though.

My 360 tag is Dr Happiness. If you want to add me, mention that you're from TWW unless you've got a recognizable username like axelay or golovko.

i gotta give credit where it is due; i was sniped big time last night using one of the heavy MG emplacements. as i'm sure you guys know it is pretty well covered with steel, unlike the TOW emplacements, except for the narrow slot to see through. well i dont know if this was a lucky shot or not by the sniper but he actually got me through that damn narrow opening, head on. i couldnt believe it. in other rounds when i've used the emplacement you can hear the bullets pinging off the steel as snipers try to shoot me but this time around, no pinging no nothing. truly one shot one kill.

Do you know if the sniper was using the 12x scope? I haven't unlocked this yet, but I am curious to see how well it works. I don't snipe often at all, but sometimes play defense as Recon while running around with my tommy gun and tossing out motion sensors.

I'm really impressed with how the .50 has a different "near-miss report" sound than the other sniper rifles do. I saw someone get shot through a concrete barricade last night, so I wonder just how much penetration power the Barrett has.

Something else occurred to me - has anyone tried to use AT mines to blow up a crate? Or better yet, level the building a crate is in? I know that in the first game, you used to be able to pile mines beside the crate and then shoot a rocket at it for 7/8 damage. DICE eventually patched this out, though, which was irritating. I read someone's suggestion that you can put AT mines inside a building near the retention walls, shoot one of the mines, and the explosion will daisy chain to the next mine. I don't know how large an explosion proximity the mines have, but I did recently kill a tank which was less than 12 feet away by tossing a mine out in front of it and then getting shot in return. The tank shell blew up the mine which then blew up the tank (which must have already been damaged, I figure) even though it was still about 6 feet away.

the 12x is a huge difference for snipers. in the beta i never actually used a rifle until i had it unlocked (opting to run and gun with the thompson or shotties).

having used the m24 and other sniper rifles in beta and then the M95 in the campaign, there seems to be more penetration and the ability to kill through walls.

on the shielded MG, he could have gotten you from the side. unless the sniper is looking dead on, your body is exposed some.

in the beta, you could take out m-con stations with anti-tank mines (toss 5 of them in and then throw a nade on them). but i think retail reduced the m-con station damage from mines and c-4

Golovko, I had an entire building come down on me. I had no idea what happened. I respawned planning on going back to the building to find it reduced to complete rubble.

the 12x zoom is nice but the tracking is slow for anything not 1/2 way across the map.

they need to implement a battlefield:heroes-like parachute system to deal with spawn camping on conquest. it's way too easy to break a map with a little coordination. servers empty so fast once the rape begins. if they'd just start chuting players into places behind the lines, it could fix that

i feel guilty beating the crap out of a team like we do a lot of times.

for PC it is spacebar, which also is the "jump" command. so maybe try whatever your "jump" command is.

It also takes a split second before it deploys, and it will not deploy from some heights. Jumping from a 2-story building, probably not. From a 3-story building, yes. Also, for some reason, I've never seen it fail when jumping out of a crashing helicopter. In the most extreme case, I watched a guy jump out right before the nose of the helicopter did a pole vault, and his parachute deployed even though he was less than half a story off of the ground.

ive had mine deploy out of a 2-story building. i would hit spacebar really fast as soon as i jumped off and then it would deploy cause i'd hear that "whoosh" sound as it fills with air. one thing i've noticed is that as soon as you land you can sprint/run/whatever where as in other games where parachuting has been utilized, you had to wait a second or so before being able to actually move.

I downloaded the BF2 demo just so I could create a name on the server so I could use it to reach Veteran Rank 2 so I could unlock the M1 Garand (by the way this worked) and I must say that BF2 was quite impressive after playing a round of it. One thing I liked in particular was that you would crouch down behind the shield on the turret of the tank.

finally maxed out my medic unlock progression. the mg3 is a fun gun, and sounds scary, but man it's not built for multiplayer. chews ammo way too fast (i think you can burn a 100 round clip in about 6 seconds).

as far as the LMG's go, I'd have to say the M60 would be my favorite if it wasn't for the terrible iron sights that basically require using the red dot scope. given that, I'd probably go with the XM8 LMG. the iron sights are almost as good as a red dot, allowing you to use another "perk" in that slot - use the magnum ammo "perk" and it's almost as hard hitting and accurate at distance as the M60

the MG36 is also nice, but it's got a sniper-like scope as its iron sights, so you lose all visibility outside the reticule.

made it to lvl 19 with only 2,100 points in classes outside of medic. gonna start unlocking engineer tomorrow. also getting close to my 200th knife (for the 2nd time...got just a hair over 200 in the demo as well)

This is the first game I've ever played where I've actually been good at sniping. Somehow it feels right to me.

Making headshots at long range, when you get the "marksman" bonus, you can get points like crazy. Still not *quite* at the .50 cal yet. That will be a good day.

One good thing about this game is that you don't have to listen to shit talking 12 year old KIDS in the lobby, and they probably are not playing anyway because its too hard. This is a grown man's game, kiddies pwnt stay home!

i agree with the sniping thing; i've prob played that the most thus far of the classes due to being actually a decent sniper for once. in other games i've been terrible but this one seems to be exactly what i need it to be. last night all i played as was sniper; it's fun to piss off people with the endless sniping and mortar drops lol. the "marksman" bonuses are indeed sweet and i always feel good when i get it i'm not sure where i am towards the .50 cal yet; i'm progressing towards the 4x scope now.

I had stayed away from conquest mode until yesterday, and I see now that this is an extremely valid point. I played in the single worst tank + helicopter thrashing on Atacama Desert I've ever seen in any Battlefield game. By the end of the round, my team's score was 89-0. We had possession of both helicopters, 3 tanks, and all 3 flags within the first 2 minutes of the start of the round. The other team couldn't even get out of their spawn point. I couldn't believe that only 11 people could do that much damage so quickly.

they made sniping too easy in this game and now everyone does it

seems like every other squad i'm in has 3 snipers and no one trying to set or difuse charges

i hate it

that said, i've got 3 gold stars on the m24 and i'm about 4000 points away from the .50 cal

Completely agree with this. In fact its ridiculously easy..yeah you need to lead a bit but thats not hard to figure out.

If they had made it more difficult people would actually play the game as its meant to be played....working together to rush points, not sit around and camp. I can play COD for that.

See, to counterpoint this, I kinda like that it's appealing to people. This way, when I get a good team of people who work together and truly understand the game's objectives, we can wreck shop. All of the snipers are off doing their own thing and not truly contributing to their team. Since I'm using smoke grenades all the time on offense, I seldom get picked off by snipers while working to arm the crates. On defense, the only time I go Recon is to throw around motion sensors, and even then I'm using the Tommy gun. Every once in a while I will see a sniper who is really helping to keep the enemy at bay, but it's rare.

Oh yeah, that reminds me. If you ever see an enemy placing land mines, shoot the mines if you really want to piss him off. I still don't know the maximum number of mines and C4 you can have placed at a time, though...

for those saying it's easy to snipe.. yes it is fairly easy to be an alright sniper once you figure out the lead thing, but to be great at sniping that takes a lot more like bullet drop and timing and patience and with all the destructible environments the people from COD:MW2 can't camp as well.

i have not noticed many rush games with an abundant amount of snipers not the same for medics and assault

Wow. The whole team we played against last night was amazingly well coordinated - far and away the most aggressive I've seen in the game thus far. I feel pretty good winning 1 out of the 4 games we played against them. I kinda wonder if all 12 guys were on communicating squads. Not many of them were below rank 20 that I could see. I don't know what the other guys on our team were doing, but they certainly didn't seem to be making much of a difference. The one Nelson Bay map we won was right down to the wire, and I could NOT get over how one guy was running around like a psycho with the AA-12 inside the last base. It was hands down my most-used gun in the first game, so I am interested to eventually get it unlocked.

Also, I read today that the maximum number of mines and C4 which can be simultaneously placed is 6. I still haven't tested this myself, but I may try to today. I've seen videos of people daisychaining mines into one long series of explosions, but I don't know if it was more than one person's mines. I need to find out how many C4 bricks it takes to destroy a crate.

Sometimes I don't think that a team is just well coordinated in terms of actually communicating, I mostly believe that they are just fairly good or better players at the right place at the right time and take advantage of their position.

The reason I say that is that I pretty much never talk and I almost always play at least a decent game, even if my team loses. Flanking and getting behind the enemy is the main difference a good and mediocre player. This is what I often try to do, and when I successfully gain my desired position I tend to offer my best to the team.

You're right, I do agree with this statement. With more experience (especially on some maps) comes a greater ability to anticipate and react. For instance, last night on Valparaiso, I watched a helicopter fly overhead and 2 guys parachuted out of it. I quickly ran over to near where they had landed - not too far from a crate - and picked off one of them. The other one got me and then armed the charge. It truly did seem like I was the only one paying attention, since I didn't see any of our other teammates make an effort to go hunt down the paratroopers. Even worse, after the crate was armed, I also didn't see a huge effort to go disarm it. This is so frustrating to me since it should be obvious what to do in that situation. Could be that our teammates were either already engaged, or just flat out didn't react. What pissed me off is that we had them down to single digit tickets on the second base, but then they tank steamrolled us badly after they took that one. (Not to self - do not underestimate the importance of land mines on Valparaiso. I got so busy shooting down the helicopters and then got so pissed off about the second base that I neglected to prevent the tank rush.)

Heh. I think I must be Battlefield gung-ho.
