also, it's easy to cherry-pick statistics when you only start 56 out of 120 games. if thome could put up an OPS+ like that and be a regular DH, then you might have a point.

also, I have certainly seen enough baseball to not even expect for my Twins to win the division...I think they have as good a shot as anyone but I'm not one to Billy Packer baseball races, I've seen too many analysts, many former players, give dumbass predictions with like 10 games left (I'm looking at you Mets) look like dumbasses in the long run.

I'm trying to piece together what he is saying here and I simply can't. Is Detroit not the team that is at .500? For all intents and purposes the same record as the freaking Mets?

^ NL West, AL East and NL East each have four teams with positive run differentials -- in other words all have expected W/L over .500. All the others only have two... not that that is the end all, be all but it's a pretty good representation of which divisions are stronger top to bottoms.
