I've only played about 45 minutes or so so far....I can't remember if endurance affects how fast you move (or if it's just based on the amount you're carrying), but I'm regretting dropping my endurance down a little at the start...it seems like I run a lot more slowly than I remember moving in FO3.

I definitely need to get a better medium ranged gun than the varmint rifle. I'm missing my hunting rifle (and the Lincoln Repeater) from FO3 already...I went into the hills near the first town's water supply to find some guy's girlfriend who was being attacked by geckos, and had to get my ass out of there after 5 or 6 of them started coming after me.

Looking forward to branching out later tonight to some of the surrounding areas.

I still have the varmint rifle too, which sucks.

Anyone played Caravan or whatever that card game is? I think I have the basic premise, but it still takes too long to play one game.

What do you guys think is the best system to play this on? A console or a PC? I just got a new, jacked-up PC, but I played FO3 on my XBOX.

I played FO3 on my PC and FNV on my PS3. The only difference I can tell is being able to play on my 42" versus my 19". I think I actually bought FO3 and all the X-pacs, but you could potentially get them on a torrent, I guess.

This game looks worlds better on a PC hooked up to a HDTV. I have everything cranked up to max AA etc.

I even have a wireless 360 controller for the PC so it's essentially like I'm playing it on a 360 but it just looks much better. Although despite it looking nice on a nice big HDTV I still prefer playing it with a mouse/keyboard on a nice monitor.

So I say get it for PC unless you don't have a PC that would play it and just want it for 360. Remember you can always just hook up your PC to a HDTV and use a 360 controller with the PC for the better looking game.

LOL yeah TreeTwista10, DoeoJ, and I were in a party chat last night doing that mission. It's hilarious if you tell him that you don't have any evidence, and you just wanted him to kill her.

I actually jumped when Boone shot her.

I'm using Boone as a mule, and I gave him some metal armor, which of course he equipped. But for some reason he un-equipped his beret, too. After a few minutes/saves/zone changes he put it back on. Anyone else notice companions doing that?

Will Boone attack the Legion on sight? I want to help the Legion for a little while at least. If so I'll have to leave him back in Novac until I handle my business with the Legion. Also, the motel room that you get for free in Novac, is this a safe house? It seems like it is, but I am paranoid about leaving my stuff there.

Yea he claims to shoot on sight. I sent him back to lucky 38. I kinda like rolling alone anyway. Though I'm almost positive I put ammo / food in my lucky 38 safehouse kitchen and it disappeared... Not for sure though, my weapons and armor in my room containers seem to be fine.

just started on this game today. spent about a half hour creating my character, shot some lizards and lost interest. going try again tonight, but i think i just totally threw away $65.

on a side note, does the game run choppy on xbox360 for anyone else? seems like just walking down the road whenever i come into proximity of a buiding or another character the game stutters while (i guess) loading the elements as I approach. maybe that's why i can't get into it yet, but i fear i'm getting too old for video games.

Try clearing out your cache on your 360, and you will probably be prompted to reinstall the update as well if you do this. I swear when I hear about a game that has glitches and technical issues I see to never have them or they are so unnoticeable that it doesn't bother me in the least bit.

You sound like someone that does play RPG on the regular. They ALWAYS start out slow and rather uninteresting. The first 2-3 hours is really just training and a huge gameplay tutorial. I would hope that you would have the game at least 4 hours (non-stop)of your time before you decide not to play it. This game you can easily put in over 100+ hours so 4 hours is just barely a taste of it. This kind of game is not made to be played in short blocks of time.

Anyway, I an loving the old school Fallout music that pops out of nowhere. I hardly ever listen to a radio station, I'd rather just hear the background music that plays when the radio is off.

actually i played through all of fallout 3 and most of the dlcs. I'm finally starting to get into the story in new vegas. just made it to primm after amassing a small army in the first town.

has anyone played caravan yet? i read over the rules, its actually sounds a lot like an equally complicated polish game i learned a couple of weeks ago.

I kind of know how to play, although I still don't know how a game ends. I win most of the time though because the AI seems just as confused as I am.

The goal is to get all three caravans as close to 26 as possible. After you put down your first card in a caravan, the next card has to be either higher or lower, then after that it has to keep going that direction (so if you put down a 7 then 5, your next card in that caravan has to be lower than 5).

A queen changes the direction of a caravan (so you can put higher cards on a caravan going down etc.). A king doubles the value of any particular card. A jack gets rid of a couple of cards and replaces them with others. You can use face cards on your opponents deck also, so if he's got a 26 you can put a king on it to make him go over, or a jack to delete a couple of cards.

Jokers do all kinds of weird stuff, not sure exactly what, I leave them out of my deck.

So, uh, when I created my character, there things i thought were perks, but they gave you bonuses alongside a penalty. Then at one point you had to pick two of... something, can't remember, but what I remember is that one of the things I picked was "Bizarre Wasteland" or something like that. Said it would create silly and ridiculous things.

Anyone know what that's about?

I have not yet played but I think you are referring to traits: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_traits

specifically, this one:

"Wild Wasteland - Adds 'wackier' versions of existing content"

Supposedly Wild Wasteland makes the game more like Fallout 1 and 2, in terms of atmosphere/tone. Basically it just restores humorous, surreal, or just unrealistic content that got cut before release to appeal to people who would rather have a more realistic experience with the game.

Turning it on gives you some funny (or just weird) semi-random wasteland encounters, maybe a handful of extra dialog options in certain conversations, and generally makes the wasteland more populated with events. It's good for people who want to see easter egg-style references to other games and/or Fallout 2-ish humor (really, just Black Isle/Obsidian humor), or even just those people who think the desert is too empty and uneventful and don't mind sacrificing some realism to get more encounters during their exploration.

I just finished a long quest line for them and just got a key to a safehouse (that had nothing in it). Is it a different quest line for power armor?

The one I'm talking about starts with finding missing patrols.

I did the same quest line, but there is a part where you can help turn a Knight into the Elder, but you need to find a precedent where it happens (The Chains that Binds). I guess you didn't do that, or whatever, because the new elder teaches you to wear Power Armor.

But it is possible that if you DON'T overthrow the current elder he will teach you the same. I don't know.

pretty sure both paths with the brotherhood elder will result in power armor.. they just have different missions for you to join them (and then teach you power armor)

there's also another path not related to the BOS to getting power armor training.

Just got this game Saturday and somewhat of a mixed bag with it. It's go the same quirks as FO3 did but seems a little less fun, not a ton of people still, and the quests seems to be more going to point A to B boring chains that would make WOW quests seem short. I've only played up to lucky 38 and learned of Benny's secret, which really isn't that far off in the game, so I got a lot of playing around to do.

I donno about you guys, but the game crashed for me every couple of hours or so and I'm also seeing the funny moon walking dog errors on a number of creature on slopes, plus their bod goes perpendicular to the ground half the time, but this is only when I'm zoomed in with a scope a sniper rifle really far away.

The overall feel seems as though the game is missing something and needs more people in New Vegas to feel more lively. This is 2010, they should have beefed up the game engine by now to handle more than 8 people in one screen. This is why you programmers have tessellation.

Also, I had hoped they would have a much more advanced inventory system instead of the gay ass shit pitboy. It's so annoying to have to manage 1000 items and the screen only shows me like 5 at a time. Give us a diablo II style bag or something. Plus the menu systems are kinda wonky just like FO3 in just the hit boxes, seems delayed. Don't get me started with the crude walking/running, plus the bad mouse feel. It's suppose to be an FPS, I want my mouse to aim correctly and smoothly like every other game out there and not be so jagged.

It's still fun and landscape does still hold it's own, but damn, hurts spending $50 for what is essentially a more elaborate DLC for FO3.

I was a bit uncertain for the first couple hours, but the game really picked up for me when I got to Nipton and ran into the Legion for the first time. After a misunderstanding and a few accidental shots that resulted in a large firefight, I've been blacklisted by the Legion with them sending assassin teams after me on occasion. From that point forward, I pretty much just depopulated every Legion town and outpost I run into.

I've had no problems storing gear in Novac. The (rather expensive) stuff I put in my safe is still there.

^you do realize you get your own place at Lucky 38, plus if you do a quest at the strip place in freeside, you get a room there too. I got Cass as part of my party early on so she's my running mule (get her doing the caravan quest at Mojave outpost, she's in the bar drunk. To get her to be part of your party, you have to get her to sell her caravan to some carrier company near NV, it's like a 2-3 part chain quest, really easy). I didn't realize you get Boone, so I'll work on his quest tonight.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Rose_of_Sharon_Cassidy

List of Companions:
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_companions

There's also suppose to be a bad ass sniper rifle in the game at sniper nest, but my friend said that you have to have 100 in lock picking and he got it early on in the game. Does so 64 base dmg.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Gobi_Campaign_scout_rifle

The Caravan game seems like it's a rip off from the KOTOR card game, which was fun. Haven't amounted to get enough cards to play it yet. Also anyone also pissed off that the Casino's have a despereate lacking of actual games and people in them? I mean seriously? It's called New Vegas and all you have is Roulette, Black Jack and a stupid slot machine? I mean where's Craps? Texas Holdem? Bingo? Keno? And the cap limit at the casino's really suck but I guess winning more than 10k per place would kill the game I suppose.

I also like the hardcore mode, the food/h20 requirement adds a little more value to keeping food and water on you, a bit it's a little annoying at times when your STR goes down and you become over cumbered.

I've put about 7 hours in and have barely advanced the main story any...a lot of time was spent dicking around discovering locations in the south.

That guide that came for free with the game from toys r' us has been crucial so far...I always felt like I was leaving behind undiscovered stuff in FO3 locations, and constantly had my laptop open to the wikia page to check things.

I just got ED-E and Boone, and the small amount of time spent getting them has been well worth it so far...it's like a firing squad when enemies approach...although I'm sure that only gets better as more companions are added. Before getting them I tried venturing north of Goodsprings, got warned by Victor not to go any further for my own safety, and was then immediately killed by those mutant flying bug things (Cazadors?).

ED-E? it takes a while. you need to speak to people that will mention Enclave, Poseidon, HELIOS, and a couple of others (arcade, and the apocalypse guy at helios are good ones)

there are 2 recorded messages in ED-E that kinda popped up randomly after talking to people, then the 3rd is a message giving you more direction in the quest.

but there's about a 8-10 day delay between the 2nd message and the 3rd giving you an actual place(s) to go.

^yeah, but you can only have so many implants, plus I've been using the added skill levels to up the SPECIAL numbers since I really haven't found skills that were worth a damn. I should have specialized in one or two sub categories instead of spreading them out slowly. Might have to restart this and build up a proper character.

Can't have more than 1 companion in your party, that kinda sucks. I mean come on... KOTOR had what 3-4 people max, why can't you do it here? and there's a severely lack of enemies to kill so far in the game that I've played up to. Lots of worthless side quests. My friend said he finished the main quest in about 6-7 hours

You can have 2. One human, one robot/dog. You can actually have up 3 in the wasteland when adding an NCR solider.

In Freeside only you can have 4 with 3 above plus a bodyguard.
