So apparently after all that self-censoring, Comedy Central won't re-air the episode?
Really it just reiterates Matt and Trey's point about censorship... 4/22/2010 12:18:43 AM |

Loved the Super Best Friends throwback, with Seaman jokes. Did anybody else get tired of the bleeping of Mohammed's name? They said it so frequently too. I liked the nostalgic feel of this episode but I thought the bleeping of the entire "lesson learned" was pretty dumb, even with the Willzyx ending making up for it somewhat. 4/22/2010 12:41:53 AM |

From Wikipedia:
Quote : | "New episodes of South Park are usually re-aired at least three times on Comedy Central: at midnight on the following Thursday morning, at 10:30 PM on the same Thursday, and at 11:00 PM that Sunday. Instead of episode 201, the network re-aired "The Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs" in the midnight rebroadcasting slot, and according to Comedy Central's TV schedule will again re-air Scrotie McBoogerballs on Thursday night.[2] The network will also re-air "You Have 0 Friends" in the Sunday night rebroadcasting spot instead of episode 201.[3] " |

this is weak. trey and matt have become victims of their own success. they helped build comedy central into the cable network it is today and this is how they get repaid. i hope they do nothing but terrance and philip episodes until their contract runs out as payback. it's like the point they made in "cartoon wars," either everything is ok to make fun or or everything is off limits, there isn't a middle ground (that may not actually have been the point they made but that's what i seem to remember and i'm at work so i really can't fact check myself at the moment).

Could you imagine how much would have to be censored and pulled off the air if Christians threatened to blow up everything? This country is quickly becoming based solely on appeasing the minor radical islamic group. 4/22/2010 11:51:13 AM |

I wonder what network would have the balls to air the Mohammad stuff unedited? HBO maybe? It's had some pretty controversial stuff in the past but I doubt they'd be able to air a new South Park episode on a different network.
If there is every a second South Park movie, I'm sure they'll put something in there about this. 4/22/2010 11:52:16 AM |

I wouldn't put it past Matt and Trey to be the ones behind all the censorship. If you noticed at the beginning of the episode the boys said Mohammad way to often and repetitive.
Things censored: The word Mohammad - Said way too often and seem intentional The black rectangle over Mohammad - Had to be done by the creator because they did the same thing to Cruise at the end. No way that Comedy Central could have done this. The speeches at the end - None of you actually think that CC did this do u? Definitely done by South Park for satirical effect.
The only thing that might be done by CC is not re-airing it. All the "censorship" was just done as a joke. Don't get your panties in a wad that "we are conforming to the terrorist demands." Yall take this shit way too seriously.
V Well lets think. Maybe Trey and Matt are not re-airing it themselves to stir up more controversy, causing more news coverage, causing an increased demand. Now that they've done this they can now release a "Special Unedited DVD" just to fuck with us. Its excellent marketing. I don't think we will ever really know who was responsible for the censoring and I don't care. The episode was funny and made its point.

but not re-airing an episode seems like a pretty big deal to me. i know they didn't re-air trapped in the closet for a while, but didn't they eventually relent on that decision? i'm not getting my panties in a wad over anything, i just hate not knowing all the facts bc then we just end up discussing hypotheticals all day on a message board. at least one day i'll be able to tell my grandkids about seeing the infamous episode of southpark that never aired again... 4/22/2010 12:48:43 PM |

Yes, because this is exactly what they've done before. In fact, I remember when the South Park movie came out on bluray a few months ago, that very same week it was FREE to watch in HD on their site. And they do a really good job of forcing people to buy the Seasons on DVD by putting every single episode online for free.

A Comedy Central spokesperson confirmed it was the network's decision to bleep the words.
The Muhammad content is also not available on the South Park Studios website.
Ironically, "South Park" apparently shows an image of the Prophet Muhammad briefly in its opening credits that has gone largely unnoticed. " |

Actually, if they announced that they were going to show the episode unedited on cable they would probably bring in huge numbers of viewers. But that is a Comedy Central tactic, I assure you that Matt and Trey don't give a shit about tricking fans into buying more dvds or anything.
The problem (with this entire situation) is sponsorship. There is no violation of Free Speech here, it's just an inequality in the way society treats religious parody. And Comedy Central doesn't want to lose sponsors by offending the public. 4/22/2010 3:56:00 PM |

Group A: Muslims pissed off at South Park over a depiction of Muhammad. Group B: Americans pissed off at South Park for offending Group A.
Group C: People pissed off at Comedy Central for censoring only Muhammad and no one else. Group D: People that don't care about any of this crap.
Size: D, C, B, A.
How loudly they complain: A, B, C, D. <-- This is what sponsors care about. Groups C and D may be the largest, but they're not going to start boycotts over the unequal censorship. 4/22/2010 4:17:06 PM |

statement from matt and trey
Quote : | "In the 14 years we've been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn't stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn't some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle's customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn't mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We'll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we'll see what happens to it. " |
