Cavs are two losses away from tying the longest losing streak ever in the Association.

Next 3 games are Pacers, @Memphis, Portland

Do they get a W before they are the new standard for futility in NBA history?

I'd like to see artest leave the lakers, I liked his game a lot in houston; it wasn't good for him to get absorbed in to that shitty, boring offense the lakers always have

It just doesn't make much sense. They wouldn't be able to get back what they wanted for him and he did a pretty good job on Pierce in the Finals last year. If Phil said he would put his team up against any other team in a series right now you have to believe the guy.

The only asset the Lakers could actually give up that they could get some value for is Bynum. He's got a workable contract and a team option in 2012 iirc, which would be right about the time Howard is deciding if he is coming to LA or not. They'll hold onto him up to that point.

the lakers seem to be falling short with all the games against all their main competitors but then again what happens in the reg season never seems to mean much in the nba playoffs, whats impressive though is how well they can play at this point with kobe doing shit, kupchack and jackson deserve a lot of credit for that

the orlando franchise seems to be sinking right now, it was amazing they got rid of lewis' contract and richardson was a good pick up but I don't know about the rest, they might have traded too much

what a bizarre development this lakers carmelo scenario is, even if the lakers could pull it off I'm not sure how good it would be for them, their main advantage is pounding teams in the ass with their post size, plus I just can't imagine kobe/melo getting enough shots to appease between them, the whole lebron/wade thing works because they are both actual team players who can average a lot of assists hmm

Yeah I would be shocked if that actually happened. The Laker front office still likes Bynum a lot and it would also require Melo to sign a 3 year extension with the Lakers.

On top of that, a shake up for the current back to back champion would reek of desperation at this point. This group deserves a chance to three-peat before the team is broken up and they start the rebuilding process.

except adding Melo to the lineup would not be anything close to the Lakers declaring they are rebuilding

did you think the Lakers were rebuilding or acting out of desperation when they added Artest to the lineup?

also, getting rid of Bynum isnt exactly disbanding the lineup

They've been trying to dump Artest to no avail and he is gone this offseason. They even attempted to dump him on the Bobcats for Wallace until Ron Ron veto'ed it.

Bynum is the keystone of their future, and Denver wants picks to go with the Melo trade.

They're long in the tooth all the way down the roster, so yeah, this run at a 3-peat would be a last hoorah before they start building up again. They have to get younger to stay in check with the up and comers in the West.

Maybe not, "rebuilding", but retooling would be a better word in hindsight.

you damn right it is!

I do wonder what they are going to do in a few years when Kobe and company are too old to compete at such a high level anymore. My first thought when I heard about the Melo trade was that he could be the lakers successor to Kobe.

also, I am so sick of the argument that Melo going to the Knicks would be good for the league. Yes I agree its good to have their biggest markets competing for championships (LA, NYC, Miami, Chicago, Dallas, etc.) but it really sucks for the rest of the league. I would prefer parity over a top-heavy league any day. Hell, I'm so fed up with the current state of the league that I refuse to watch any games this year. Partially because my team sucks now, but mostly because I hate the clear separation between the "haves" and "have nots" and how all of the leagues stars absolutely must play with 1-2-3 other stars to have a chance at making a championship run.

Please stop posting in this thread. You're nothing but a sourpuss at this point. You stopped paying attention to the league, yet you continue to opine in here on a regular basis. No one cares why you left, we're just glad you're gone. Vamoose.

Lakers would be insane to trade a young stud center for freaking carmelo.

the only thing that makes this trade not ludicrous is that bynums knee injuries make him risky...

Why would you break up a bynum-gasol duo for carmelo? Has anyone watched the past two seasons?!

I'm shocked that nowhere in that post was Nene mentioned.

The one time where it would actually be warranted and you could make the argument that the Nuggs already had a big center with a history of knee problems giving you 15 and 7.

You're slipping Rally.

Slave, you would think that since you get a hardon everytime you see my name pop up you would notice that ive posted three times in this thread all season. Not once being a "sourpuss" (seriously, who even says that?)

Don't chime in more often just out of spite for SF. You have to admit that would be fairly childish.

As far as this

Quote :

You said you didn't watch the NBA anymore so I'll feel you in. That time is right now. They have a losing record vs teams over .500 and have lost by double digits to the Heat, Celtics, and Spurs. They have a long way to go to the playoffs, but some fans and critics already have their hand on the panic button ready to push it at the first sight of adversity. They aren't playing nearly to the same level as the previous two years.

At the same time, Phil said he liked his team vs any other team in a series about a week ago so they are going to stand pat. Those rumors of Bynum were leaked by the Nuggets in an attempt to gain some leverage against the Knicks.

I don't know, I think laker country is really over panicking right now, this is probably their last great yr but they are still favorites to win the title, I remember they supposedly lost all these big statement games last regular season and it meant dick in the playoff

but anyway I think this is the same situation as the nets thing, which means much ado about nothing since melo prob won't agree to the long term deal, although it's more likely than the nets

They're back to back so you pretty much have to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, getting repeatedly beaten by good teams is not a good sign.

Them saying they can "turn it on" come playoff time is also a red flag in my eyes. A lot can change between now and May, but I don't see this team even getting past the Spurs if they make it to the WCF. Something just isn't right with them this year.

Plus, there will be no home court in the finals this year that proved to be so big for them last year.

well I'd love to believe you but I think it just works out for it to be the lakers last yr, the heat are prob going to need another yr to gel and build that team before they go on a 2-3 yr run

It would be a great deal for the Nuggets. Pairing Nene with Bynum would be terrific. Especially since they'd be losing Carmelo for nothing after the season anyway.

The Lakers would still be a tough team because they have Odom to fill the gap but I just don't see how you give up a young star center for a guy who likes to shoot.

They already have one shot hog in LA. I don't see this ending well.

btw, just because I dont watch NBA games anymore doesnt mean that I stopped watching sportscenter, etc. I know whats going on around the league. The Lakers havent been extremely dominant during the regular season of any of their last two title runs, they seem to just wait out the regular season, try to stay healthy and then turn on the jets in the playoffs. Until I see otherwise, I'm going to assume that they are doing the same this year.

With that said, I think Melo to the Lakers isnt necessarily a leverage move against the Knicks. I've heard from a couple different analysts that Melo is mad at the Knicks for taking so long to make this move - he put himself out there by publicly saying that NY is the city he wants to play in and has been taking a lot of heat in Denver because of that. I still think he winds up in NY, even if he signs with the Lakers just to try and win a title this year, he could still refuse to sign and externsion in LA and go to NY in the offseason.
