yeah, i completely understand with an instructor in the car, but this video was solo drivers. to me, a solo driver knows what they're doing to some degree

Tried out my new GoPro this past weekend at a regional autocross, pretty cool to be able to see what I did although it reminds me of how shitty a driver I am

nice, where was that? course looks pretty long and fast for an auto-x event.

looks like you're wayyyy late on your slalom apexes. still going out when you get to the cone, yeah?

also, 0:39, hoooooooooooooly understeer

man, i really need to go to another auto-x soon, they're fun.

^ It was in Knoxville, TN. East TN Region SCCA is pretty active and usually has good courses (although the skidpad was really unpopular at this one).

Yeah, watching the video I was definitely late on the apexes in the slaloms compared to my codriver. I've always been taught to try and "clip" the cone with my rear wheel, but I'm not early enough for such a short car (camera is basically sitting on the rear axle, heh).

I don't see why you'd consider 0:39 (the skidpad) understeer though...I was on the throttle, and any more throttle would upset the whole car. I was basically oversteering as much as I could while maintaining traction on the front tires (street tires). I worked that station after, and watching the heavily prepped FWD cars (CRX's, Civic hatches, Mazda MX3, etc) that are normally very fast go through that section was painful. Now they had some major understeer going on.

Hey Jek, what street tires were you using? Maybe it's because of the track surface but damn it seemed like those tires were squealing a lot more than you would expect of high performance street tires.

^ The surface sucks really bad for about half of that course (not sure if you can see the pavement transitions in the video), it gets really slick.

The tires are Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs, basically the best tire you can get for AP1 sized rims from what I've read. Same as the OEM Bridgestone Potenza S-02's for 2/3rds the cost. Sizes are 205/55R-16 and 225/50R-16.

What are you running on your S, OEM Bridgestone RE04's?

Ah, so it was the surface then.

I, TOO, run Star Spec Z1s

225/45R17 front, 255/40R17 rear

i assumed understeer because your steering wheel is pointed the wrong way for all that squealing to be oversteer

seriously though, that looks like a really cool place. i'm jelly.

next time any of you guys are signing up for an auto-x within an hour or two of Raleigh, please post it up! i'd like to go to more, but it'd be more fun to go with someone i already know (or pseudo-know via teh intarwebz)

My best run from an AutoX yesterday:

Same site as the previous video I posted, very different layout though. It was fun, I placed 4th / 8, pretty good for me since the car is stock (aside from the stripped interior and bar) and is running in STM against some very fast drivers in modded cars.
