is the privacy the nudity thing?

and how dangerous are they really? (as compared to the other unhealthy things we do ...what about the xrays at the dentest or if you go the doctor or tanning beds etc etc...just thinking about radiation here)

i don't know the answer to this, but i imagine the concern is more for those who fly frequently and will be subjected to it on a regular basis

As someone who has to go through security every day, I have not had to yet use these machines, even at the airports that have them - which seems to be almost everyone I've been to.

When I am eventually forced to, I am going to make it as painful as possible for the TSA. People have mentioned that you can opt out of the AIT scan, but they left out the fact that you can opt for a private area away from the public for your grope down. At the suggestion of my union I'm going to take this road, mostly in form of protest.

Personally, I don't care too much about some dude looking at my balls, or grabbing my junk, besides the extreme inconvenience and waste of my time, but I definitely understand the attached implications and it's utter bullshit. But mostly it makes a lot of sense that I have to go through all this shit and then I get to lock a door behind me and control a multi-ton rocket propelled fuel tank, loaded with dozens of people.

And lol at BigHitSunday calling the TSA professional. Most of them have an IQ of 70 and don't, or just barely do their jobs. For every 1 professional TSA agent there are 5 I wouldn't trust in a swimming pool.

so i see that the average person gets about 350 mrem a year just from the environment and foods etc.

the average dental x ray is about 2-3 mrem

and judging from what ive seen here the scanner is .003 (am i reading this right?!?!??!?!?!? maybe we should boycott x rays)

tell me im wrong (i just kinda googled and compared several sites so it could be very wrong.....someone with more knowledge tell me)

I'm split on this. While you can get your own room, its almost like you're hiding the fact that the TSA does this in exchange for making it take more time for them.

I've also read several accounts of people saying that their belongings were left outside of their view and had items stolen, like iPods and such. I'm not sure if this applies for the private screening or not.

If it was exactly as the government promised it would be...some anonymous person sitting in an isolated room by themselves with no ability to capture/store those images, then I doubt there would be a whole lot of hoopla (sadly). Unfortunately, Napolitano has already lied through her teeth multiple times about the above mentioned situations.

I'll actually be flying from RDU down to Florida on the unofficial "opt out" day, and I fully intend on opting out, and making it as uncomfortable as possible for whatever stooge decides to give me the physical.

Also, I feel the need to repost the videos from the pat down on children, since most people seemed to skip right over them:

make a meaningful protest; dont fly, write somebody that gives a shit, picket outside of the airport who cares its america

but dont walk up in there intent on fboarding a plane and be a little ornery prick for the men and women are just working citizens like you and I.

"A Gizmodo investigation has revealed 100 of the photographs saved by the Gen 2 millimeter wave scanner from Brijot Imaging Systems, Inc., obtained by a FOIA request after it was recently revealed that U.S. Marshals operating the machine in the Orlando, Florida courthouse had improperly-perhaps illegally-saved images of the scans of public servants and private citizens.

We understand that it will be controversial to release these photographs. But identifying features have been eliminated. And fortunately for those who walked through the scanner in Florida last year, this mismanaged machine used the less embarrassing imaging technique."

The machine is old, the new scanners are much more revealing. This article just goes to show that you can't trust the "the pics aren't stored" argument.

A bunch of idiots who are "just doin their fucking jobs" doesn't make anything they do right. If, for instance, a bunch of police officers started arresting someone for a victimless crime, I'm going to hassle the arresting officer(s) for doing so. Whether or not they are "just doin their fucking job" doesn't change the fact that their job is asking them to do something that I, and evidently many more people, see as unethical.

tl;dr - Yeah, I'm still gonna hassle those goons.

you'll also get your sorry ass thrown in jail for interfering, which you 100% deserve and i fully support

the term "victimless" is subjective...i'll save you the trouble of looking up what "subjective" means and tell you that it means that it's your OPINION, not fact (or, rather, that it is not universally "true")

your very stance leads me to believe that you're an idiot and as such, you deserve every bit of "hassling" you receive from being such a pain in the ass

you do realize it will make jack shit worth of difference, right?

flying is a PRIVILEGE...you are not entitled to it...you don't like it, don't fly...if you can't wrap your tiny head around that FACT, then i can't help you...but i will be happy to inform you that the only person you're holding up when you "hassle those goons" is you...there will be plenty of TSA staff to handle the few sanctimonious douchebags with such an unimportant schedule that they can spend the extra time being groped

LOL at anyone defending this.

Next it will be trains, subways, buses.

After that, someone will roll a few cars stuffed with bombs into a tunnel or over a bridge, and then we'll have to submit to searches of all passenger vehicles. in the motherfucking name of safety.

Fucking terrorists already won. because they've turned you into a bunch of fucking paranoid pussies who'll gladly hand over your rights in exchange for the empty promise of security.

These new measures will work great against someone in possession of a biological agent. Yeah we're all so much fucking safer now.

also, just for your education, biological agents are harder to come by than explosives...i can build a bomb by midnight tonight if i had a mind to...hell if i'd know where to get anthrax this late in the day

Yeah, you're goddamned right that flying is a privilege. It is a privilege that myself and millions of people WANT to continue to use, and not have to be subjected to a bunch of random strangers viewing ourselves, or our family members naked (or feeling us up). And simply having them view us naked or feel us up apparently just seems to be the tip of the iceberg at this point. I mean, how stupid is the idea of trying to avoid air travel for the rest of your life all because once upon a time, some bureaucrats at a government department that shouldn't even exist decide to make some outrageous guidelines for flyers? I got an idea! Let's not say a word when we disagree with it! Maybe then everything will be all better!

The slippery slope started because the TSA has a habit of closing the barn door after the horse has left. Someone tried to bomb a plane with their shoes? Off with everyone's shoes! Someone tried to bomb a plane with their underwear! Must see what is in everyone's underwear! Someone tried to bomb a plane with...?

I just can't wait to see the people defending mandatory cavity searches in 5 years.

I don't think you need to address it on the slippery slope argument. It's already gone too far. And the vehement disagreement is not only breach of privacy, but unreasonable search and seizure, and a breach of the right to travel. It's not that it *could* be any of those things in the future, but that it is right now.

You never know, that kid could have had a bomb strapped to his pullups.

^ Metal detectors aren't beaming naked images of high schoolers to the principal's office (or whoever it would be looking at the images).

Personally I don't really agree with metal detectors at schools but that's another can of worms for another day.

I sure would like to see some school boy cock

you know... to make sure that none of them are hiding bombs under their scrote

on a completely separate note..... the ability to fly is vital to our economy... and for classy businessmen such as myself.... is a necessity for maintaining my jerb. Though, I guess I could always go work at McDonalds.
I'm not so sure I agree with flying being a privilege thing. As a US citizen, YOU have the right to access public airspace, and per the regulations of the Transportation Barriers Compliance Board no one should be able to restrict that access through procedure or regulation.

"how do you feel about full body imaging of school kids?"

i have no problem with it, personally...it's not like children have never been used to carry bombs before

i do, of course, have a problem with the images being stored (obviously)...if you're passed through the imaging device and are cleared, there's no good reason for any images to be retained

i do realize that some images HAVE been retained and yeah, i have a problem with that...but i think that most opposition that use the retained images argument are grasping pretty desperately for a concrete reason because "my privacy is being violated with my full knowledge and approval as demonstrated by my willingness to engage is this completely optional activity!" just isn't cutting it

you're welcome to disagree, but flying is most definitely not a guaranteed right by any legal definition

you are more than welcome to utilize private airlines in private airports if it bothers to fly commercial...that will allow you to make use of public airspace (unless they're requiring these imaging systems at private facilities, which i doubt they are)
