World without End took me a few months with breaks. It's 1024 of a captivating story, but some parts were soooo tedious. I took breaks with other books. 7/22/2011 12:50:50 AM

2 weeks ago I finished unabridged version of The Count of Monte Cristo. It was my 2nd time reading the 1500 page book, and this time around I think it took me 13 months
About to start another (much shorter) novel called Term Limits, perhaps at the pool this weekend.

I probably do 80-90% of my yearly reading (of books that is) in the summer. I love a good book while on the beach, at the pool or traveling on a plane and the summer is when I do most of that stuff.

Yeah, that 1040 page "light duty" novel I just finished.
I read The Count of Monte Cristo last year. That was a tough read.

out of things I've read relatively recently, there's some light-duty stuff:

(read that in a few hours)

(read it in a few days)
another book called City Hall that I can't find online...finished it in a few hours.
but others have been much heavier reads that have me bogged down for quite a while:

Ghost Wars probably took 6 weeks, and I have at least that much time in Guns, Germs, and Steel.
Up next:
I guess that with most books, I finish them in a week or less, but it's not like I put one down and start another one the next day every time. The big thing, though, is that with some of those books, I don't see how you could finish them in a week unless you just absolutely had shit else to do. It's not that they're of War and Peace length so much as they aren't easy reads, at least if you really want to think about what you're reading and get the most out of the book.
