Cass, either the state is lying or there is something wrong. No way an electronic transfer takes longer than 2 weeks to hit your account. 4/6/2011 2:31:44 PM |

Mine was there this morning as well, roughly 60 days after I e-filed. I just got the notification yesterday, but that was the first time I have checked it in a while so not sure when it was actually updated.

that's what i've said! i think there's something wrong. i understand that it can take a while but it will be 60 days on April 9. i called my CPA last week and she gave me some run around that some of her other clients just received their refund that they filed the same week i did. but my boyfriend who filed with the same CPA the same week as me received all his money a month ago.
and now my coworker was telling me with the possible government shutdown, if that happens then no one will be receiving their refunds for a while. i just want my $250.4/7/2011 12:21:42 PM |

I don't understand how the gov. chooses who gets their refunds first. I thought it was about $ amounts, but that concept was shot down in this thread.
I would just be worried that you got the notice that it had been paid 2 weeks ago and its still not in your account. NC is telling you that they have paid the money, and its out of their account, just not in yours. Can you call your CPA and check the bank routing/acct #?
Hope you get a quick resolution! 4/7/2011 1:56:07 PM |

what are the requirements that have to be met to claim a child as a dependent. don't you have to meet ALL of the requirements, too. not just 1 out of 4 or however many there are?
and IF my parent claims me as a dependent, doesn't that fuck me over? because isn't the parent getting $$ back for claiming me??
and WHAT do i do if they claimed me as a dependent but i don't meet any of the criteria? i lived at home 5 months of 2010. i'm not under the age of 24. i'm not disabled. and i don't really know what "provides over 1/2 of support" means but my parent paid my health insurance for like 4 months in 2010 and my cellphone bill for all of 2010 (we're on a fucking family plan). i'm pretty sure with school (i paid for with loans, my OWN loans), food, clothes, other living costs, medicine, doctors appts, etc, etc that doesn't qualify as 1/2 of my support, but i'd like to know.
sorry for the dumbass questions, but we're having an argument right now and i'd like to know who is in the right here. maybe MAYBE i could be claimed as a qualifying relative?!?! but not a qualifying child.

publication 501 says:
During the tax year in question -you are under 19 or under 24 and a full-time student in a qualifying educational program AND -lived with parent for over half of the year, excluding temporary absences AND -you did not provide over half of your support AND -you are not filing a joint return with spouse if married OR -permanently disabled
even if you don't meet the criteria for a qualifying child, you can still be claimed as a qualifying relative if you meet those criteria
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p501.pdf pages 10 & 11
i have this same argument every fucking year--file your tax return by mail if you don't think that you are a qualifying child/relative and the irs will sort it out/ask your parent to file an amended tax return ] 4/11/2011 10:37:50 PM |

^ THANK YOU!! so basically as i thought. def not qualifying child. can still POTENTIALLY claim as qualifying relative though, i don't think i can be in this instance because my gross income wasn't less than the personal exemption amount. plus ain't nobody providin' more than 1/2 my support so. stand back bitches.
JUST MAKING SURE PEOPLE. i wanted to be right before i yelled anymore profanities. except that i totally yelled them before even confirming i was right. whoops.

I've pretty much been on my own since I was 19/20, but my mom claimed me as a dependent for as long as she possibly could. But she's awesome and I came out of her womb, so I let it slide.

ok so i'm kind of (ok really) annoyed.
i have been calling the number listed on the dept of revenue page for 2 weeks and it's always busy.
http://www.dornc.com/aboutus/phones.html
Individual Income Tax Refund Inquiry 1-877-252-4052
my CPA had called this number 2 weeks ago and she said she got a busy signal too. she goes, "oh they're probably just busy because everyone is calling." i'm thinking they just took the phone off the hook so they don't have people calling and harassing them for their money.
i believe my issue is serious enough that i should be able to speak to someone. there's also an address listed as a "service center." i don't know if anyone has gone to one of these before and if it would be worth my while. here is the address listed for the Raleigh office:
N.C. Department of Revenue 4701 Atlantic Avenue, Suite 118 Raleigh, NC 27604

I know you are annoyed but I have had and will have clients wait will over 4 months before they see a state refund. We have no clue why and have just come to accept the delay. I had a client that filed her 2009 return with me on Janury 18th, 2010. State refund was received June 12th, 2010. Her 2010 state refund was processed and paid within 5 days this year. There was no difference in the returns or how they were filed.
There is no method to the madness. There is, however, one solution I tell everyone... update your NC-4 and increase your exemptions so you owe them next year. At this point you wait to pay them until the April 15th. 4/13/2011 12:41:25 AM |

I have never gotten a refund from the State. I owe them like $500 this year so yeah as others suggested maybe update your info so that you get to keep your money all year and at the end they are waiting on you instead to send in your payment. 4/13/2011 8:38:49 AM |

^^ oh i completely understand. but my problem is that on the State Refund site it has said for the last 2 week that they sent my money to my bank for deposit but i haven't seen anything. i'm just worried that the money was sent but to the wrong account. that's mostly why i want to get in touch with someone. 4/13/2011 8:40:59 AM |

hahaha well my dad thinks it does...but i just did what mcfluffle suggested. so...if i'm right, and i'm 99.9% sure i am, then they'll ask my dad to file an amended return. and he'll be pissed. but i mean...that isn't really my problem.4/13/2011 10:50:04 PM |

Well, dammit. I'm owed a hair under $4,000 from the feds, filed on April 1st, and now my refund is "under review." If I don't here from them again within 45 days from now then I can call back. Total horse shit. Our filing was totally legit and nothing out of the ordinary. We had a kid on New Year's Eve and our deductions were all routine (church tithing and mortgage interest accounting for most of it). 5/9/2011 12:36:48 AM |
