UVA wins Game 3 7-6.

Pack doesn't have a midweek game and then hosts Maryland for the weekend series.

Wow. We at least had a good series. Took one and had two losses at the home field of the #1 team in the nation. Need to start sweeping teams like MD this weekend though.

Game 3 goes to the Pack 7-5. Down 5-3, but scored 2 runs each inning back to back and held on. Turned 3 double plays with 1 coming in the 9th after Maryland looked to get something going. No mid-week games due to exams and the team takes a break from ACC play as East Tennessee State comes to Doak. I think they have an RPI around 40.

Looks like at the least we are safe for the ACCT now safely in 7th and 4 games up on the 9th place team. A sweep of ETSU and win over Campbell hopefully before hosting FSU. If we can take 2/3 from FSU and sweep BC (Which we should, and not screw around like we did with MD), we will finish 16-14 in the ACC and likely lock up a bid.

I would say unlikely to get any closer than Columbia. The top 3 seeds of baseball regionals are usually grouped by location. That's why we have been in recent regionals with South Carolina, UNCC, and Coastal Carolina. UNC has had Western, ECU, and UNCW recently as well. The only way to get closer to home would have to mean being in UNC's regional and even though UGA and GT have played before in the regional stage, I highly doubt that we would ever be put in a regional with UNC.

^ Do they ever put two teams from the same conference in a regional? I do not remember ever seeing that.

I've never seen teams from the same conference in a regional, but have in a Super Regional, but that's just due to the way the bracket is set up. I feel certain that there is a rule against teams in the same conference meeting in the regional stage. I just know that they group teams by region on seeds 1-3 because Jacksonville loved it when they were finally in a regional that FSU wasn't in because they had been in 5 straight regionals with FSU. Our 07 regional was South Carolina, UNC Charlotte, and Wofford and the 08 regional we hosted was South Carolina, UNC Charlotte, and James Madison.

FWIW, the kid from Garner who made it to the final 3 on American Idol is throwing out the first pitch for the game against FSU this Saturday. Should get NC State a few seconds of glory on American Idol next week.

I've watched a few times this year and saw him wearing an NC State shirt at one point -- not on the stage, but in one of those behind-the-scenes moments. Scotty is alright in my book

We will be 6-7-8th seed. We hold tiebreakers over Wake and Clemson. We have to finish off the sweep of BC tomorrow and FSU has to sweep Clemson for both teams to be at 15-15. We will still be tied with Wake if they win today vs Maryland, but again we hold the tiebreaker.

Quote :
"After looking at the likely one-bid leagues last week, this time the focus is on conferences that appear ready to send two or more teams to regional play.

ACC (7): There are really three races within the ACC -- the one for national seeds, the one for other hosting opportunities and the one-team bubble watch. NC State is the only contender with anything to worry about, and a three-game set with Boston College should help the Wolfpack finish the season strong. The top six teams in the conference are all contending for the top-16 spots.

Virginia is a lock for a national seed at 45-6. Atlantic Division leader Florida State, Georgia Tech and North Carolina are all in contention for national seeds -- the Tar Heels can make their case against Virginia this weekend but are last in the pecking order for now since they sit fifth in the conference. Miami and Clemson are each on the hosting bubble but figure as No. 2 seeds for now -- a conference tournament title would probably be enough to get either team a No. 1 seed, but probably travelling to a smaller host (Stetson or Connecticut, if the NCAA decides to expand the hosting pool)."
