Given the globalization of everything, it's only natural to think that 150 years into the future accents have more or less disappeared. Kind of like race....you'd figure it would be one big blend by then.11/15/2011 8:08:44 AM |

i feel like this show has an overabundance of scenes that end with a character staring just right or left of camera, ardently pondering over some sight or conversation
and then BOOM! commercial. or end of show.
so dramatic 11/22/2011 5:40:02 PM |

I don't think they have that control over it. I would say both timelines are insync, but Taylor getting there months before his buddies seems to negate that. 11/28/2011 8:53:20 PM |

I counted 3 star trek references tonight...
1. "I'm a doctor, not a chemist" 2. The nurse was named Nurse Ogawa (same as the nurse on ST:TNG) 3. The list had 47 suspects on it (the number 47 is seen all the time on star trek series.) 11/28/2011 9:20:34 PM |

I thought Taylor and Mira were about to make out by the fire.
Also, does anyone else find the youngest daughter to be pretty much the most annoying character on the show? Something about her just makes me want to see her get eaten by a dinosaur. Even moreso than the stupid rebellious teenage son.

Although it seems odd he would have written them on the rocks... but i can buy the explanation he was trying to taunt his dad.

^ There was a scene dedicated to explaining the causality issues. They had sent a probe back to the past and since they could find that probe 85 million years later on present day Earth, they assumed it was an alternate time stream. (Think Sliders with only one parallel Earth that happens to be 85 millions behind ours) 12/13/2011 9:38:01 PM |

Fixed it for you.
But didn't Taylor's son say something along the lines of the real reason he wanted to make the portal go both ways was so he (or I guess whoever is commanding the sixers) to control the future? Essentially meaning that Terra Nova colonists were lied to about it being a different timeline?12/16/2011 12:18:29 PM |

I'm assuming the 'control the future' part was about controlling the resources of Terra Nova Earth. Earth prime seems totally exhausted of minerals/resources, it seems like the goal is to strip mine Earth Nova and bring it to Earth prime. 12/16/2011 12:22:41 PM |

if its really a different universe, then it does seem like it makes more sense pull resources from Theresa Nova to bring to real earth. That way all humanity can benefit not just the few who go to terra nova. 12/17/2011 2:11:16 PM |

All of humanity doesn't benefit from the resources though. They hinted at a massive class struggle on Earth Prime. Also, I would wager most people consider Earth Prime too far gone to warrant saving. 12/17/2011 3:24:57 PM |

it's weird that the time fissure thing maps uniquely from one time offset to another time offset though...
I guess it's been obvious for a couple episodes that they're not trying to do a "serious" sci fi show, which is still disappointing. 12/20/2011 1:33:54 AM |

Maybe out in the badlands there are clues to the first attempts at time travel or something? Like back when they were first experimenting with the portal they might have accidentally sent a ship from the 1800s back in time to a few thousand years before Terra Nova or something?
Or maybe scientists from the future tried to do another colony with another portal that sent them like a million years prior to Terra Nova?
btw, it's a good thing that everyday people in 2154 have a common working knowledge of 19th century ships to the point where they could easily identify a prow. 12/20/2011 10:15:43 AM |

Quote : | "Fox has not made a decision on a Terra Nova renewal, but the series’ producers are moving to secure key actors and beef up writer ranks to be ready for production on Season 2. The options on the cast of the prehistoric drama are up on December 31, and I’ve learned that pickups for stars Jason O’Mara and Stephen Lang are imminent. With the cast options’ expiration date looming, the network originally was expected to make a decision on the series last week, following a top-level meeting between the heads of 20th Century Fox, which produces Terra Nova, and Fox on December 16. That didn’t happen, but the pickup of sought-after actors O’Mara and Lang gives Fox a little bit of breathing room, and the network is now expected to make its decision in January. That would make for a very tight production schedule on Terra Nova, which has to begin filming in April to make a September premiere date because of the series’ extensive post-production, including visual effects.
The search is already underway for high-level writers to join executive producers Brannon Braga and Rene Echevarria in Season 2 as the network and studio are looking to elevate the writing on the show going forward. Last night’s two-hour season finale drew a 2.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 7.2 million viewers, a tad better than last week’s series low; it didn’t make Fox’s decision easier by making the case for a renewal one way or the other. And the network has to make the call on Terra Nova in a vacuum, before having seen its development for next season. (Fox faces similar pressure to rule on the future of veteran House next month to give the veteran series time for a proper sendoff should this be its final season.) Still, with strong DVR viewing, big international sales and Peter Chernin and Steven Spielberg behind it, Terra Nova at this point appears likely to be renewed." |

Good concept, terrible writing and execution. The acting is actually pretty good at times, but some of the dialogue is Star Wars prequels bad. I wouldn't mind another season, but fire all the writers and get a new special effects team. It's guns and dinosaurs for christ sakes, how hard could it possibly be to not fuck that up. It's not even burdened by the usual giant time travel plot hole, since it's basically an alternate universe. 12/20/2011 5:11:29 PM |
