New personal records set today

Rep max PR on the Squat 295x8

New PR on the power clean 210x1

Body weight is at 177lbs.

I think I've finally worked the kinks out of my power clean form... should be hitting new records frequently now.

That's awesome!

Shameless promotion: For anyone wanting to your act together for the new year I strongly recommend hiring ^ MattJMM2. He isn't merely the *rawr rawr lift more or you suck!* kind of trainer. Just in the two months that I've been following his custom made program my girlfriend says that she can already see a noticeable difference in my lean muscle mass.

Because I feel like it could have gotten lost on the bottom of the last page:

Quote :
"Got a weighted jump rope for Christmas...anybody got any creative ideas to incorporate it into a workout other than the mundane "jumping rope"?? I did some intervals with it yesterday (a minute jumping rope, 20 seconds rest), switching it in and out with raised hands push-ups. Felt pretty good. Calfs and feet were a little shocked from not having jumped rope in about 15+ years. "

Treading softly but surely I enter the room
I'm like Gary Cooper and now is High Noon
My enemy waits near the fire escape door
Just waiting to crush, leave me smashed on the floor

The weaker men sneer, but bow down their head
I'm walking a path they don't dare to tread
The stronger men smile and kind words are spoken
I'll leave this place proud or I'll leave this place broken

I'm limber and ready I'm stretched and prepared
My foe waits impassive, it knows that I'm scared
Now battle is joined as I start my attack
The great heavy beast like a bear on my back

My shoulders are aching I sink towards the ground
My legs feel like breaking my eardrums now pound
The beast pushes down now I use all my might
A huge surge of effort I'm winning the fight

I rise like the Phoenix my comrades all yell
They've helped and cajoled, They've been through this Hell
They've nurtured me, cussed me, been there like true mates
I'm one of the guys now...I've squatted 5 plates.

^^I think intervals are going to be the best bang for fitness in a short amount of time. I've recently gotten back into jumping rope (past two months) and I'm trying to work up to multiple 1-minute rounds. The first month though I focused on trying to get some of these different skips down:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MD3uicAYtdw&feature=player_embedded
and that makes it a little more interesting. I used the first 15 minutes of the work out trying to learn a new skip and then the last 10 mins doing some quick rounds

^^^ Instead of just doing regular jump rope you can work on double unders (where the rope passes under your feet twice each jump)

How does someone lose 3lbs in two days without being sick? Back down to 166.2 But, I increased all of my lift numbers today so fuck you, scale! Time to eat!

Your weight can shift 3lbs easy in one day just from water weight and when you weigh yourself in regards to your eating. Try to weigh yourself once a week at most and do it at the same time of day (like when you wake up).

i weigh myself multiple times per day. it helps me better keep track of how my weight naturally fluctuates. I only "count" the weight i get after i pee first thing in the morning.

I recommend weighing in daily, first thing in the morning after you do work in the bathroom.

It will give you an indicator on how to eat for the day.

I used to just weigh on Fridays but now that I am (or at least was) so close to 170 that I started checking more frequently. I figured it was water weight, but damn.

I don't recommend weighing in more than once a week.

Too much fluctuation day to day to be worthwhile...not to mention the harm that could come from people who have addictive personalities becoming obsessed with the scale. Pick one day and always try to weigh under the same circumstances.

Got back home this afternoon! After a quick bite to eat (yay healthy food! I was starved from avoiding the plane food) I did 2 Bodyrock workouts (they started a 30 day challenge on their website for those that might be interested) and about died - mostly because I am still pretty sick but I feel really good at the moment.

PS - flying 9 hours with a cold is the worst thing ever my teeth still hurt from the sinus pressure.

I had a very interesting chest/shoulder workout today. After I started out on the bench, I proceeded to do several exercises on the rings at the gym. Doing flyes on a low set of rings felt really good and was surprisingly easy to do, although I shook a little bit on the first set. Dips, however, proved extremely difficult to do in a normal dip position. I eventually gave up and lowered the rings down to about 1 foot and a half off the ground and got into a seated position to do my dips, which made them manageable.

I'm halfway tempted to buy a set of rings online to take to my regular gym. they added a lot to my chest and back workout, and I've always been a fan of bodyweight exercises.

Ring dips are awesome. It is amazing how much harder they are than regular dips, I couldn't hardly do one the first time I tried, now I can rep out close to ten.

Not being funny, but it sucks doing plyo when you have large boobs....I almost want to tape them down All that jumping around hurts like a bitch

My poor arms are burning from all the crazy pushups I just did. I feel like my muscles are gonna get huge from pushing up all my bodyweight so much...and I don't wan't that

Took my pictures today. I wish I had taken some when I first started. I'd like to see the difference from 18 pounds ago, but, alas, I did not. Will post either when I get brave or when I have better pics to compare.

Starting at 172.0 (original weight from 10.28.2012 was 189.9) 5'9"

I'm taking a lot of odd measurements, but I know what they mean and all that jazz.

Right Arm: 11.75"
Left Arm: 11.5"
Boobs: 36.5"
Chest: 33.5"
Waist: 29.5"
Muffin Top/Belly: 40"
Hips/Ass: 43.5"
Right Thigh: 27.5"
Left Thigh: 27"

Ah, fuck it. Here are my starting pics!

Everyone start checking your area food lion organic sections. This happened last year at this time but they are beginning to close out their organic food sections. Awesome deals on some great food. I picked up 4lbs of Bobs Red Mill Muesli for treefitty.

Also, Creme de Anise toothpaste tastes like Good N Plenty

As far as my beach body, I am only looking to get down to 220lbs and recomp from there, I'm about 235 at the moment and 18%bf. Diet will be around 3000 cals/day at 6 meals/day. 90% of my food is 100% natural all of the time. I lift/cardio ~45min 6x week. Tested my 1rm flat bench last Tues @350 with a goal of 405 for the year. Also, as part of my rehab for my pinched L5s1 nerve I cannot do any spine compressing lifts such as DL, squat, OH press.

You could say the same thing for bench press and a myriad of other exercises.

So I posed an epic fail last year when it came to working out. 2012, I'm turning over a new leaf!

I'm already signed up for a couple of 5K races, and since I'm doing it with family, friends, and the wife, and I'm way too competitive to lose to the likes of them, I feel like I should be much better off in doing the training to maximize the performance.

If I can save some scratch, I would like to invest in a mountain bike so I can do some riding. Also asked for some new soccer cleats so I can play in some adult leagues, and I have ice skating lessons mid-year so I can start playing hockey. Sittin' at about 180 now, I expect to lose 15 and look a lot better doing it.

Not really...Of course all exercises when done improperly are risky.

But the cost/benefit ratio of ring dips, IMO, isn't there. Extreme internal rotation with instability and high load is just not worth it for the masses.

If you can do it, pain free, go for it. But its not something I'd have my general clients do.

Also, adding load to ring dips greatly exacerbates the risk. Parallel dip bars are much more acceptable for this.

Guess I need to get ANOTHER one....then I won't be able to breathe haha

Well dodgeball turned out to be an extremely good workout for myself and my girlfriend - you have to have two girls in at all times, and we're the only two girls. >.< That means we do 11 games, 4 minutes each, in a row and it's mostly sprinting. I still hurt from Thursday... But I found out I can dodge a ball like nobody's business!

have you thought about seeing a specialist for it? it's almost impossible to find a form of cardio that doesn't involve impact on your foot. Even ellipticals, cycling, and rowing could aggravate an injury like that.

I saw a doctor about it last year - I stay off of impact work for about 2 weeks or so and it's okay. Sqauts, cycling and what not seem to be fine and don't hurt my foot.

how did everyone fare the first week?

i got back from London on Friday still pretty sick but was able to work out Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and started right back with my healthy eating habits. i even tried some new veggie recipes that came out really good.

weight is holding steady at 132 (which is where i was at when i left and was my goal weight). my January goal is to get to 128 pounds and i feel confident that i can achieve that.

from last sunday to this sunday i lost 5 pounds according to the scale. which i think is BS mainly because i'm pretty sure the reason i tipped the scales as high as i did last sunday was because of the holidays...

now with my foot being such a pain in the ass - it definitely causes me to make some serious changes in my plans..... grrr

current weight 199
goal: reduce BF%, gain muscle. Not worried about weight although don't really wanna go over 210

started upping my cal intake recently, trying to keep between 2500-3000/day. Switched workouts to heavier weights, lower reps. Less fast-paced light weight movement (although its a helluva cardio workout)

^^Can you swim? I could see that as a good way to get your cardio in without impact. I'm having a hard time imagining other scenarios that prevent you from injuring your foot further.
