He lived around the corner from me when he coached for the Panthers, and I was friends with his daughter who went to NC State. That game is going to be hell for her.

i used to lifeguard at the pool the Sunseri family went to. Tino, now Pitt's starting QB, was the cockiest 15 year old i had ever met at the time. i probably would be too though if i was the son of a Panthers coach and was destined to play QB for a major school.

I saw Tino play a few times when he was still at Weddington but he changed schools so he would be better noticed by requiters.

^^ I mean...it's a run-oriented offense. I'm sure the top 10 is full of option type offenses. (just checked, 4 of the top 5 are option offenses...Oregon being the only one that isn't mainly an option offense...but they use a run heavy spread offense).

That being said...sounds like a solid hire. Hope he can recruit well.

N.C. State’s Horton Reveals He Has Parkinson’s

"Any career football coach knows that the job comes with a predictable amount of unpredictability. Even with proper planning and preparation, coaches know the time between snap and tackle is completely out of their control, and that the better prepared coach still ends up the loser on many afternoons. Being prepared for what you cannot plan on has proven to be good life training for N.C. State tight ends coach Don Horton. He has the past six seasons of his 30-year coaching career - the last five with the Wolfpack — with Parkinson’s Disease, a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system. Horton and his wife Maura are publicly disclosing his illness for the first time. In speaking to Horton, a tall, taciturn, native Ohioan (whose daughter bears the first name ‘Hayes’ in honor of the former Buckeyes coach) you can tell the Parkinson’s dulls and chops his speech at times. What is harder to discern is how much of that is the disorder ind how much of it is speaking about it. Much like his head coach and friend, Tom O’Brien, Horton is someone who has never been described as long-winded. That’s even more true when it comes to talking about matters that many men of his generation would consider a matter for private discussion only. Though not nearly as high profile as a head coach, Horton admits that questions have been raised about his health by both friends and fans. “People ask questions,” Horton said. “They are just guessing but they know something is affecting me. I’d rather have it out there now and be in front of it.” One thing that makes it easier to be out in front is that Horton knows O’Brien stands behind him with full support. “He’s always been great about it and great to work for,” said Horton, whose loyalty to O’Brien you can sense more than he can describe in truncated sentences. “I know in the morning when I get up, I’m going to give the best I can, and he realizes that.” Much like O’Brien has supported him, Horton was fully behind the head coach’s decision to shift him from offensive line to tight ends coach after the 2010 season. It’s a position he originally held under O’Brien at Boston College when Horton was hired away from Southern Illinois, where he had been the offensive coordinator. “Coach O’Brien is always gonna do what’s best for the team,” said Horton. “Fifteen years I’ve worked for him, I’m very loyal to him, he’s very loyal to me and I trust him whatever he does.” In addition to a “talk less, say more” approach to conversation, O’Brien and Horton also share the reputation for spinning straw into gold when it comes to incoming recruiting classes and outgoing draft classes. There’s abundant evidence of this in Horton’s offensive lines at Boston College and N.C. State, where over 15 NFL linemen were churned out, including current Super Bowl champion Chris Snee of the Giants. Sports success comes from the blend of physical fitness and gained experience. Few players, or coaches for that matter, will be in healthier later in their careers than they are at the beginning. Conversely, very few veteran players or coaches were smarter at the beginning of their careers than they are toward the end. Though Horton admits the challenges Parkinson’s present him, he does not concede he can’t still be a great coach. “There’s nothing I really can’t do,” he said, “it’s just a different level sometimes, whether it’s playing basketball with the girls or at [football] practice.” Horton went on to explain specifically how he’s affected daily. “Sometimes little things are more aggravating than the big things. Buttoning a shirt, or putting a coat on, or getting up from a table - those can be major endeavors.” There are two “big things” that give Horton confidence in his ability to battle through the “little things” Parkinson’s can throw at him. One is that in 2007, following Horton’s first season coaching after being diagnosed, ESPN’s Todd McShay ranked him as the second best offensive line coach in the country, behind Florida State’s Rick Trickett. The other is that Don and Maura decided not to let his illness prevent them from having their second child, Hadley, in the fall of 2007, during Don’s first season at N.C. State. In talking about the decision to grow their family despite obvious difficulties, Horton spoke of good advice he was given: “A doctor said, ‘In five years there might be a cure, but you won’t be able to have a five-year old child then’ and he was right. There might be a cure any day.” With no known cure, Horton does a number of things to fight the effects of the disease and is looking at even more cutting edge types of therapy. He’s also considering which foundations and other folks he would like to partner with as he tries to do his part to raise awareness for the disease. It’s a topic he recently discussed with LSU assistant coach Steve Kragthorpe, who announced before last season that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s. “[Kragthorpe] has the same concerns, same problems that I have. Certainly anything we can do to make people more aware of the disease we will. There are many foundations and researchers, hopefully there will be a cure in the near future.” Horton is a bit chattier - and a lot more humorous - when the subject is football. He fondly recalled huge change in his life that came when he took a job far from Ohio, at New Mexico State. “Driving through Texas you’re thinking New Mexico is right around the corner,” Horton described. “But Texas is a wide state so it was another 14-hour drive. I got outside of Waco all of a sudden you start noticing there’s no more green, flat land. That’s when I started crying.” Horton says he has shed no tears over his Parkinson’s diagnosis, even as the terrain change around him tells him he’s once again moving into the unknown. “I get up every morning and thank God I have a chance to go to work,” Horton said. “I’m gonna do the best I can no matter what happens.”"

We had a cruddy score (903) in 07-08, and it's a four-year average. The 931 average means we got a 946* in 10-11.




*Plus or minus a point or two, since they round off. I'm figuring scores up from the reports starting in 04, so there's probably some error in not having the remainders to figure in.
