I predict Howell will be on the bench with two fouls by the 15 minute mark, but when hes in the game he is responsible for 3 of Hensons 8 total blocks (and only 2 fouls). Painter has another solid game stepping away from the basket to make his inside the arc jumper.

Barnes makes 6 three pointers and finishes the game with 32 points, earning player of the week honors.

final score - 96-78 UNC

we never win against UNC. Wasnt our game at UNC last year the game where Barnes started living up to his preseason all-america label?

That was a good write-up by rally. One mistake though:

Quote :
"CJL/Howell/Painter need to combine for 120 minutes "

Leslie, Howell, and Painter all have to play the entire game! I assume he meant they need to play 80 minutes combined, maybe 90?

yes sorry, i meant to put 80 minutes not 120.

Again, I'm assuming most of the people in here enjoy sports and like to read informative writeups before a matchup against our rival opponent.

There's room for dancing gifs and knowledge sometimes.

Yes, they need to combine for at least 80 minutes is what he meant.

Or basically we don't see TDT in the game at all.

Most folks here know less than dick about the game. They focus on whatever meme's were hot on 4chan six months ago and try to shoehorn them into quasi-relevant posts attacking the other team's fanbase's sexuality, when they're really just re-enforcing the fact that they have no grasp of how the actual game of basketball works. Posts with original and insightful content are so rare here that average knuckle draggers have no idea how to interpret them, and almost view them as a foreign language, as if the author is talking in glyphs that no one else can understand.

I'm guessing Gottfried will try a bunch of defensive schemes to try to bother their shooters. Hopefully they don't abuse Scott Wood in our Zone D like Miami did.

And the "time" it takes to write something like that is approximately 7-10 minutes.

Doing minor research like Wood and CJW #'s against UNC, Henson's foul/block ratio, and Bullock/Hairston's productivity in comparison to Strickland adds another ~5 minutes but I would have spent that time doing it anyway because I'm looking for gambling angles and I enjoy sports statistics/analysis.

The time it should take a normal person to read that wrap up is about 60-90 seconds. If that's too long for you to commit to learning about the UNC-State match-up prior to the game I'm curious as to why anyone thinks we'd want to hear your input on the game?

look, face, I know you think very highly of yourself, but your write up didn't teach anyone anything of any worth

Considering that State is primarily an engineering school, and taking into account that most of this forum's users work in either engineering or tech fields, I wouldn't expect well thought out prose to be a TWW strong suit. I would ask, however, that when were graced with the presence of such, we read it and appreciate it, instead of mocking its length as we tab over to gamefaqs while wiping our Quizzno's on our shirt sleeve.

I wasn't aware DROD was such a bastion of sports knowledge. I don't recall ever hearing anything of worth from him so maybe he is just hoarding it over there.

that was a really good write up and agree with pretty much everything he said.

one thing that i hope changes this year is how our offense under Sid just allowed for their

bigs to hang back and play help defense on all those set plays, with Gott we are out running

and not calling a set every time down the floor. hopefully, with an improved transition game

the shot blocking ability of zeller and henson can be partially negated (big hope)

Carolina lives off points inside the arc. I doubt they get those against us.

They don't shoot threes at all. That's our main weakness defensively.

Defensively they are horrid.

They are hopelessly short and have zero depth.

I like NC State vs the spread. This has all the makings of a 30+ point game that might only be a 15 point spread.

Barnes is good, but he definitely isn't overly athletic. I have no idea why anyone would draft him in the top five. I would hate if the team I rooted for used a top five pick on him. If he can't create his own shot in college, is he really gonna do it in the NBA?

Just had time to read all of face's post. I must say - was a legit post - far and away his best effort ever.

Quote :
"1) Stay out of foul trouble. We can't afford to send guys to the bench with foul trouble. CJL/Howell/Painter need to combine for 120 minutes which means we need two of them on the floor at ALL times. This game isn't winnable if TDT has to give us 8-10 emergency relief minutes. If we get in foul trouble on the perimeter I actually think Tyler Harris has potential for this game. He has the length to contest shots, he rebounds his position, and he could make a shot in a pinch."

Though I agree with the need to stay out of foul trouble - I don't think by us playing TDT for some emergency relief means that the game isn't winnable. It does mean that the other 4 on the court will have to play that much better to prevent a potential scoring drought by us - or run by them.

In the games I've been to this year, Tyler Harris actually caught my eye during warm-ups. Kid shoots the ball well there, but every time he comes in, he's been less than impressive against less talent than found at UNC. The jury is out on what he'll be in the future, but saying he has potential in this game feels a bit more than optimistic.

What's that Slave Famous? More than 3 whole sentences in your Sports Talk?

i agree with face's post as well and also appreciate the time it took to get that down. However, i don't think we need to outrebound them (we didn't against Miami), but i don't think we can lose the rebounding battle by 15+.

I also think there's a big difference this year in how Wood and CJW look for their shots. That curl play at the elbow for both of them is such a beautiful play and almost automatic for both of them. I do not think we need to shoot a ton of 3's either, this game is going to be played up and down the court as both UNC and State are two of the leading offenses in the conference (i think ranked 1 and 3). And if we don't commit silly turnovers (to me the whole key to the game) we can run with them at will and that will get their bigs tired and hopefully get us some cheap fouls against them.

Where the hell is this "barnes isn't athletic" shit coming from. Dude has ridiculous hops and is fast/quick for a guy his size. His fundamentals are not the greatest (like ball handling, passing, or defense), but he is definitely athletic.

^ Given his size advantage he doesn't rebound particularly well, create steals or blocks, and his assist rate is super low for a guy who uses so many possessions.

He does get to the line a lot, but that again is a function of his size.

He doesn't strike me as an elite NBA prospect but he's definitely a marginal starter or solid backup.

He's athletic, but not freakishly so like Henson.

Russell Westbrook, Blake Griffin and LeBron and those types are in a whole nother level of athletic prowess. As far as mere mortals are concerned, sure, Barnes is more athletic than you or me, but compared to most NBA 3's, he's in the middle of the pack. That doesn't mean he won't be very good at the next level - look at Paul Pierce and Joe Johnson - but it means that his ceiling is considerably lower than someone who jumps out of the gym.

I duno why some of you think the score will be low. This has the makings of a shootout. I wouldn't be surprised if we both score well into the 80's.

all of this. in no way does he have "ridiculous hops." Though I'd argue that Pierce in his prime was more athletic than Barnes is now.
