I've never gay bashed or slut shamed. But the very act of me stating that I don't take part in either of those lifestyles is somehow considered gay bashing and slut shaming. I don't think being gay is a sin. I don't understand it, but I don't think it is a sin. That is my opinion, and like assholes, everybody has one.

You're only allowed to express your honest opinion though if you're a liberal.

And nothing happened.

I mean, you can't express yourself at work, but none of us get to say half the shit we wanna say at work. Otherwise, you're good to go on expressing yourself.

^^You can totally express yourself. I mean, we're all oppressed in some way...there's no need to make it worse by inventing limitations on your behavior.

I mean, this is obvious, but there's a world of difference between not being allowed to express your opinion and getting your horseshit opinion called out.

Believing homosexuality wrong, unnatural, immoral, a sin, etc is complete horseshit. Written down millennia ago by a tribe of people that thought you could change the color of goats by breeding them in front of striped sticks.

PROTIP: Pointing out that someone is an inveterate bigot is not the same as wanting his or her "tongue cut out."

Quote :
"so if science shows that some people are pedophiles not by choice, then it should be legal? that's what your position is."
IDK about moron, but IMO as long as pedophilic acts are regarded as harmful to the children involved, they should not be legal; an important aspect of the legalization of homosexual acts between consenting adults is that they were found to not be harmful per se, not just that same-sex attraction is biologically determined (but [b]this[/i] fact undergirds gay rights more generally, including the legalization of same-sex marriage and protections against discrimination in housing, employment, education, and the military).
(Similarly, the main reason bestiality is unlawful in most of the country is that non-human animals cannot legally consent.)

Quote :
"But the very act of me stating that I don't take part in either of those lifestyles is somehow considered gay bashing and slut shaming."
kinda like how letting it be known that you're an atheist is somehow considered hatred of Christians, or supporting health-insurance reform is somehow evidence of Communism

Quote :
"I mean, you can't express yourself at work, but none of us get to say half the shit we wanna say at work."
It's not just the public figures either; try expressing support for unions while working at Wal-Mart, even off the job.

(BTW I believe that A&E overreacted by suspending Phil Robertson, and it's good that they let him back on the show, possibly soon enough to not have filmed an episode without him, because we need as much reality as possible in our "reality TV" even though it makes decent people uncomfortable.)

Vinylbandit, to your first question, I kinda am. I remember lots more support for Trayvon than Matthew Sheperd?/Brandon Teena? and the others like him/her.

As for what you just said: let me give you my full unfiltered views on gay people, and I want an honest answer:

I respect them, I don't discriminate against them, I think they have the right to fuck who they want, and love who they want. I don't think it's anyone's business. However, I draw the line when filing jointly on taxes and other financial benefits come into play. I fully agree that if one homosexual gets in a bad wreck, then his/her lover should be able to be next of kin at the ER. I don't hate the people at all, I just don't like some of the financial aspects.

Am I a bigot? asshole? what am i to you?

this goes beyond the scope of this thread i think, but why is the government in the marriage business anyway? tradition? population growth/stability/control? to give a benefit to families? public health?

personally if two people love one another (gay or straight) I don't see the problem. Why can't the government just get out of the marriage business all together and just grant a "personal union" and let whatever beliefs the couple has to decide if they call one another married, personally united, declared family, or whatever label they want?

when this came out, all the headlines and facebook posts were like "OH WOW WHO WOULDA THUNK" - they showed severe stereotype against rural whites. why is that kind of stereotype okay and the others arent?

Matthew Shepard was 15 years ago. Brandon Teena was 20 years ago. It was a lot riskier to show support for gays at that time than it was to show support for blacks in 2012.

What? Why is that the line? I mean, if you think that no couples should get benefits/breaks from the government for anything, I understand that. But why does a straight couple deserve legal benefits that a gay couple doesn't?

vinyl: to clarify, i weighed in the amount of social media and 24 hour news back then versus trayvon and it still seemed skewed. that could be it, you're probably right and I thought the same thing when answering.

as for the second question, i don't think there should be any financial benefits for anyone getting married. i think each person should pay flat tax rates or no taxes at all in favor or a sales tax. i mentioned the ER thing cause that seemed to be a big issue. if they want a civil union, cool. but not out of my pocket... and i wish other families would stay out of my pocket too.

this is kinda where i usually go into the 2 party rant

That's fine, but even the amount of exposure doesn't account for ideological climate. When Matthew Shepard was killed, gay marriage/civil unions were illegal in every state in America. Today, they're legal in 22 states. That's a much more hospitable climate for comment, regardless of volume.

"Phil Robertson Says [technically, said] Girls Should Be Married Off at “15 or 16”"

Quote :
"Culture warriors on the right spent the bulk of the holiday season establishing Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty as a martyr because the millionaire was suspended from his television show after making grossly homophobic and racist statements to a GQ reporter. The strategy worked, and A&E reinstalled Robertson to his apparently First Amendment–guaranteed spot on reality TV, which in turn sent liberal bloggers back to YouTube to find more incidents of Robertson saying terrible things about the nonwhite, nonmale, nonstraight portions of the population.

The hunt didn't take long. This weekend bloggers turned up a video from 2009 in which Robertson advises marrying underage girls because they are easier to dominate than those who've graduated high school.

In the video, a Sportsmen's Ministry talk, Robertson laments that good women are hard to find, saying, "Mainly because these boys are waiting until they get to be about 20 years old before they marry 'em. Look, you wait until they get to be 20 years old, the only picking that's going to take place is your pocket."

His advice for a happy marriage is to make like R. Kelly and hang out in high-school parking lots. "You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16. They'll pick your ducks." (No, "pick your ducks" is not sexual innuendo—Robertson is talking about cleaning the feathers off of dead birds, a miserable task often left to women to perform.) "You need to check with mom and dad about that of course," sage Robertson wisely advises, but he does not explain how to convince the parents of teenage girls to let them marry grown men who are tired of cleaning their own dead birds.

He could start by asking his own sons. Indeed, his one son, Willie Robertson, has a daughter, Sadie, who at 16 is exactly the right age for marriage in her grandfather's estimation. Of course, she's pretty busy at the moment capitalizing on her family's fame to start a career in fashion designing. Instead of doing her godly duty and standing over a sink yanking feathers off her husband's killings, Sadie Robertson has been walking the catwalk to show off prom dresses she helped design with Sherri Hill. One can only hope for an episode of Duck Dynasty in which Phil has a heart-to-heart with his granddaughter, illuminating the very important issue of yanking teenagers out of New York Fashion Week to marry them off before they can vote. Think about it, A&E. Everyone knows what Phil Robertson is now, so why not make some money letting him be himself for a nation of gawkers. "

^Yep. Jase/Missy and Willie/Korie were high school sweethearts who all married when they were about 18-19 as well, even though they were going to college. I think his point is more if you have a girl back in HS and she loves you, she is not as worried about your financial status. When they get older, women are more (IMO rightly) concerned with how much money you are going to make and how you will provide. Not sure how old Alan and Jeph were when they got married, as Alan ran away to New Orleans for a bit and got mixed up in drinking and drugs and apparently Jeph got into drugs REALLY badly around Monroe and moved out of town for a little while.

Are people saying he's promoting old men marring the girls young (a la fundamentalist Mormons)? I haven't seen that anywhere...just that he's promoting marrying them while they're 15-16, while they're still willing to pluck your ducks

No, it doesn't. I think murder is wrong. Does that make me a bigot? You need to go look up the definition of that word, because you plainly don't understand it whatsoever. moreover, given your abject hatred, ridicule, and disgust for Christians, it is FAR more fitting for you than for someone who simply thinks homosexuality is a sin.

Quote :

Methinks you don't understand the meaning of the word "illegal." No one was being thrown in jail for saying they were married to a person of the same sex then.
